    I think Square Enix needs to adopt a more restrictive "less is more" kind of policy. They have already sold Kingdom Hearts 4 to many of us fans.
    Showing off Disney Worlds is fine because that can entice more of Disney's broad audience. Gameplay by itself is also fine because that is the core video games in general. But when it comes to the story, test our patience until the game releases, add a few teasers that won't spoil anything out of context, and don't give us answers we desperately want until the game comes out.

    This is just gonna be me, but I actually want Square Enix to hide as much of the main plot of Kingdom Hearts IV and any of the possible Guardians of Light who appear in the game as much as possible:

      Technically they can just make the trailers as a separate stories from the game, think of it like an OVA of a movie or TV series.
      The issue isn’t spoiler but giving mysteries for ppl to solve. Just a standard storytelling way rather than a direct one

  • @TaliesinMyrddin
    @TaliesinMyrddin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +44

    I feel this way about every game, but especially Kingdom Hearts: a 'spoiler' isn't just the plot twist, and it's not even necessarily the story. The characters or locations shown can themselves be spoilers, especially in a long-running franchise like Kingdom Hearts.
    They showed the back of Roxas at the end of a trailer. That practically confirmed, itself, that both Roxas and Xion would be saved by the end of the game. Just like... when you know the character arcs and significant locations, seeing characters and places teased in a trailer can give you a decent expectation of what they're doing there, too.

    • @RCDeschene
      @RCDeschene 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's honestly why I think they did that. To wait 6 fucking years for a game is ridiculous. Fortunately, where the KH devs are using Real Engine and no longer have to deal with the technological growing pains of reinventing all the fundamental assets and mechanics, we should get a much shorter wait time.

    • @axceljulio5747

      @@RCDeschene Exactly what I'm thinking as well.
      KH3 was basically in a development hell for almost 6 years since its announcement in 2013, so it's pretty normal that they released trailers almost regularly every year and deliberately reveal some story bits to keep us hyped for the release, which I can tolerate.
      Now that they already got the game engine all figured out, KH4 is going to take much shorter development time and therefore most contents of the game can be keep under wraps until its release.

    It’s a trade off between having super hype trailers that surprise us, or waiting longer to experience that excitement and surprise. The long time waiting for KH3 release didn’t help with this decision. I think in order to keep people excited for the game Square Enix felt like they had to have those surprises in the trailer. We won’t be waiting as long for KH4, so hopefully Square Enix trusts that we will stay excited without them giving away so many surprises in the trailers.

      I just hope the games not shit we had to wait so long for 3 and now suddenly we're getting 4 only a couple years later? Sounds like they rushed to make it after 3 sold well at first and with how sora looks like a final fantasy character after dude specifically said before 3 that there wouldn't be anymore final fantasy characters in KH because the series is popular enough it doesn't need any final fantasy characters then turned around and made the main character look like he's from final fantasy they better change him up and only have him have that horrendous look just for that world. If you don't need final fantasy characters in your games then you shouldn't need to have your main character look like one point blank and yes I already know about the scrapped vs that literally has 0 to do with KH just because he started the game we're supposed to be ok with him doing a basically copy and paste and a little edits to make it look like Sora? That's so fucking lazy and nobody seems to care people must love the horrible look final fantasy characters have now they haven't looked good at all since 12 and even then they looked a little funny in the face 13 people looked so stupid and don't even get me started on the horrible never going to be finished 15

    • @Nyzer_

      It also really doesn't help that there wasn't a whole lot of plot progression in the game before the ending. There's not a lot of exciting plot-focused clips to show in trailers that aren't in the endgame section.
      It further doesn't help that KH3's twist was preemptively spoiled in DDD: we're just told outright that Xehanort WANTS the Guardians of Light to assemble, and where he'll be waiting while you go about doing that. Coulda gotten a LOT out of having those reveals happen IN KH3.

    • @soya_kitchens
      @soya_kitchens 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Chris420x1 Dude, no...
      Just because 3 had an ABNORMALLY (key word) long development time doesn't mean that suddenly KH4 is being rushed out. KH games used to come out once every year you know, with some empty slots here and there. And we got TWO (three if you count Missing-Link soon) games that came out before KH4, too. These games all started development right after dev for KH3 finished (not even its release a little later.) And the Osaka Team doesn't have to completely start from scratch in the middle this time (AND have a good grasp on the engine they're using now), too.
      And yes, it was confirmed that Sora is only going to look like that in Quadratum/Unreality. No need to get your panties in a twist. By the way, Nomura said there weren't any FF characters in 3 because of time and plot constraints. Also, it's not because the series is popular enough, Nomura said it was because the supporting characters could hold their own now without the FF. I think that he was just BSing to the interviewer for some weird company Red Tape reasons, though, since the time constraint answer came after Re Mind.
      Either way, there are reasons for why things are the way they are. All we have to do is wait and find out instead of getting angry at something that isn't a problem and is gonna be explained to you in the near future.

The problem with S.E. ending up showing too much stuff in the trailers was that the bar was set too high, as for instance with the "final battle trailer" you basically spoiler everything to me then I'd assume "Well if they are so confident with their work it means that besides that there will be a lot MORE to uncover both story and gameplay-wise in the actual game" and if this is not the case well it's no surprise if a fan ends up being disappointed.

I think they'll keep things secret as this is a beginning of a new arc, but I want them to keep certain things quiet like Ava and Subject X. Aqua is a character that only Kingdom Hearts fans actually know. The casual gamer knows Sora and maybe the rest of the Destiny Island trio, but that's probably it. Showing Anti-Aqua definitely got loads of attention, memes, and "she's been Norted!!", but I agree that it might not have been the best move because the people most invested in Aqua's story, or even know who she is, were gonna buy the game anyway.

    I'll probably watch one more trailer just to see what the game looks like in unreal 5. Other than that, I'll try to avoid them, but the problem is avoiding trailer spoilers is almost impossible online. Even if you don't actually watch the trailers, you'll inevitably run into thumbnails or headlines that throw the biggest juiciest spoilers right in your face, and you won't realize what you're reading until you've already read it. I don't know if just trying to avoid them is a tenable option. We really just need to hope that they won't release as many trailers as they did for KH3. I really hope they've learned their lesson from that debacle.
    My ideal is just 2 trailers-one as a beta teaser focusing on setting up tone and story, and a second, fuller trailer elaborating on story content while also showing a decent amount of gameplay and level design. That's it. Keep in mind, for KH1 and 2 we only got I think one main trailer for each game and a couple of TV spots. That's the right way to go about it. Maintain the mystery.

    The trailers are for the people who are not yet convinced to buy the game. That's why they show as much as possible to bait them in. They are not trying to get the money from the hardcore fans because they already know that we will buy it. The fans need to take some accountability here. Nobody is forcing you to watch the trailers. I understand someone might get accidentally spoiled but that's just how it is. Showing off a lot in the trailers gives them more sales and there is no way they will make a compromise here. It's money over integrity every single time.

    Honestly I can say kh3 was my least favourite out of the trilogy (not including the Nintendo/BBS games). Idk I just felt like something didn’t hit right with me, maybe cause it felt like they crammed everything KH related in the end and focused on Disney. The other games had a strong blend of both by making sora revisiting traverse/hollow bastion to further the main plot and having a organization 13 really be the main antagonist in the Disney worlds (like beast and Xaldins}. And I felt like the bosses in the game were very lacklustre, Final fantasy characters were pretty much non-existent, and have more organization 13 battles in the Disney worlds (idk fighting organization 13 members inside a Disney world just hits different). Before I start ranting I’ll stop.

    Yeah this is something that Square must not do for KH4 (I know MoM dodged the bullet tho that was a smaller entry and the plot was mostly at the end of the game) and I would also say the same for FF7R Part 2.
    As they did spoil a bit of endgame with FF7R Part 1 with the final trailer, especially with Sephiroth stabbing Barret. But man, aside from the KH3 final battle trailer: Demon Tower sucking the guardians to death, Sephiroth stabbing Barret in FF7R Part 1’s Final Trailer and lastly FUCKING THE SPECIAL NOISE KILLING PRETTY MUCH THE ENTIRE CAST IN NEO TWEWY WHICH WAS SHOWN IN NEO TWEWY’S FINAL TRAILER.
    Square has an annoying habit of thinking that a good way of marketing is to have main characters hurt or dead during the endgame section to really really want players to buy their game. When it really loses that impact and shock value when people do see it from the trailer first and then the game.

    I personally found Kingdom Hearts 3 lacked what the first two Kingdom Hearts games had. It lacked story until later but implemented so much of Disney worlds. It felt underdeveloped for all the years they put into the game.
    The spoilers made the game lack with trailers after trailers on end what to expect. The form changes were nice and the action was nice. I felt there wasn’t much to discuss in the game other than the plot twist that Sora’s being Sora and will be gone from reality to a world of fiction AKA Quadratum. Not too much Final Fantasy characters here. It was pretty bare for a Kingdom Hearts game third installment.
    Square Enix should not spoil so much and keep everything hush hush. At least limit to two trailers of something that will not spoil the game. Square Enix showed one trailer already and it was plenty but maybe the second trailer could be along the lines of what Sora’s thinking because he looks so confused and dazed.

    • @justsomeguy4422
      @justsomeguy4422 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kh3 lacked story because the story has been stretched to all the non-numbered entries of the KH series. All the games between 1 and 2 brought a lot of growth and convoluted questioning into the lore. KH3 imo lacked because it was trying hard and rushed. KH3 felt like it was trying a lot of new things, reaching a new audience all while trying to feed its main audience what they are expecting. With the implementation of the mobile games, the story has started to go very…south in comparison to what it used to be. Trying to keep up continuity over multiple platforms imo is going to cause later installments to feel less impactful. Because if you aren’t playing kingdom hearts like the Pokémon franchise and buying every bit of merch, game, lore and etc. the the next game will feel like the comparison of FFX to FFX-2 (what the fuck happened) Square need to drop this Disney stuff. In all seriousness I know that will never happen, but like sora can’t stay trapped as a child forever.. he can’t be let to stay a Peter Pan syndrome kid forever. Disney is weighing down the real development and growth of Kingdom Hearts. Even the theories of Yozora being a rewritten noctis kinda prove that as well. Don’t be shocked if KH4 actually is worse than KH3. Cause it just might be. They can’t carry the game based on its graphical looks forever.

      @@justsomeguy4422 I agree but there are some deep story elements if you search in the game. However I felt the mobile games weighed down Kingdom Hearts into a different direction and felt completely nuanced into its personal issue. After all it was made by the same developers as Birth By Sleep. Don’t get me wrong, Birth By Sleep was good but it wasn’t great. There was also the appeal to fandom and how I felt the story caved way too fast. If there were to be another arc, I’d have imagined Sora in the next sequel dark and gritty and not painted dark with Disney effects. I know what you mean by Disney, their flashy abilities and carnival rides made KHIII more cartoony than it was supposed to feel compared to Kingdom Hearts 1 or 2. One particular nuanced story element is Sora supposedly having to be changed as weaker but he definitely felt more powerful than the past two.

I sincerely hope Nomura gets his direction and convolutes the story without Disney meddling in some half assed joke with any characters too much. Keyblade masters are also kind of parallel to jedi and sith. I also really hope they put in a final fantasy world. Speaking of which, it would be nice if they went the final fantasy route where after a character joins your party, they travel with you to different locations and their character development happens over the course of the game instead of just being limited to a small section or "worlds" In the case of kingdom hearts. For example, if we could swap jack sparrow into the party in any world after we unlocked him and he remained part of the story after his section was completed.

    If _Kingdom Hearts IV_ does come out in mid-late 2024 and if we get another KHIV trailer for a brand new Disney world around September 2022 during D23 2022 or Tokyo Game Show 2022 and future trailers during later events (Jump Festa 2023, E3 2023, TGS 2023, etc.) I could expect 6-8 trailers where some of them are centered on the new Disney world revealed and other Disney worlds are revealed all at once similar to KH2, BBS, and DDD trailers when they revealed most of the new Disney worlds in their respective trailers.

    Well, I feel like showing Donald and Goofy was already a big spoiler, given the nature of this game's evident potential plot and how 3 ended.
    We're left with the impression that Sora is gone, potentially for good, but the others are going to try to find him. And it's alright to show some characters, because I don't think their appearance guarantees much of anything, but they need to be careful with who they show and what they are shown doing. If we see a scene with Riku bringing Sora through some portal back to their own world, well, that's a big spoiler.
    But I'm in the same boat nonetheless. No spoilers. Dark Aqua might've been the biggest spoiler for 3. I also wish they kept a few more of the worlds secret. Olympus was the first world so it works as a world reveal well. Toy Story would've been the best to show off, because it was so highly requested. Frozen was a fair show, if a bit on the nose. Pirates was also good, but I definitely wouldn't reveal any more than those 4 worlds and maybe some of the KH unique worlds. It's just a bad idea in general to reveal The Final World and Scala, since they are supposed to be big surprises for the end game.

    The problem here was that to prove that the game was still in development and to maintain the hype train for the game, they had to show stuff. Impacting stuff. Stuff that would be talked about everywhere (the spoilery bits).
    If they learned, if the game is just 2 to 3 years ahead, I think they'll think twice before showing stuff

    Honestly, I might only watch a couple more trailers just to get a sense of what the game will be like and then go media blackout on the game. It might be difficult, especially due to thumbnails and spoilers being thrown everywhere in TH-cam and Twitter, but I’ll do my best. I’ll come back and watch the trailers after I play the game to see how much they showed off.

    It was only snippets of the opening movie. Not the whole thing by any means. But good point.

    One thing I do like about the Scala ad cealum as unnecessary as it was, was that I thought sora would be on his own but then in the final game he’s with Donald and goofy. That was the clever move. Best thing about kh3! The dynamic between those 3 was just incredible!

    i never really knew that many trailers for KHIII even existed.
    my cousin and i stayed away from as much as possible, and we both had an amazing experience with the game.
    one event i see everyone disappointed in, was the reveal of Dark Aqua.
    and not to rub it in people’s faces, but my cousin and I FREAKED when she came on screen.. because we genuinely, no pun intended, stayed in the dark about it.
    i really hope whoever reads this kinda gets the idea: just dont watch the trailers. they spoil way more than you think.
    much love :)

    I actually managed to avoid every single trailer for kh3. So every single moment was blind for me. And I loved all of it. I was so lucky

      Yeah, me too! I'm glad I refused to watch the last-five trailers that they shown before the game released. I ended up playing the game blind as well! It was great too!
      What I do nowadays whether it's a game or film, I just watch the first-two trailers that get released. Afterwards, I'm done! I will avoid the rest of the trailers that get released. I'm already sold, so there's no need to watch more.

      You must have had a great time with the game. I knew the entire plot before playing it and I was fucking sad🤣

      I always get suprised when I see a comment saying someone liked kh3 and it isn't filled with reply after reply from kh2fm fans insulting the op

      I might do the same for Kh4. I only gonna remember the 20th anni trailer as a way to bridge the gap from kh3.
