    I recommend just mic it with sand, small unsharp rocks, and other substrates.
    And save money. It is basically a powder. So it won’t work alone as substrate. But mixed with solid substrate, it is excellent 👌

    do you need to do water changes if using the clay

    • @DerbyKoi
      @DerbyKoi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes mate, the clay adds minerals beneficial to koi health and helps to remove fines in the water, you still need to do regular water changes which also adds minerals and removes toxins in the water

    If I'm adding clay regularly and down the road I need to treat for parasites, will the clay interfere with my treatments?

    • @DerbyKoi
      @DerbyKoi  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi jeanie, the clay should have floculated and helped to remove the particles floating in your pond normally within 24hrs, leaving just the beneficial minerals. So let the clay do its job before adding any treatments, and don't add clay again until the treatment has finished

    Would the clay if used every week build up in the bottom drain, been wanting to try it but that's my only concern..thanks

    • @DerbyKoi
      @DerbyKoi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I john, the clay once mixed is very fine, it does attract the unwanted particles in your pond but should be picked up within your filter system, you may get a real fine layer on the bottom depending on. How good your filtration is, the koi will also digest the clay again helping to clear unwanted matter. I have never had any issues with clay on the bottom, I do vacuum regularly in the summer, but I would think that it would take months to maybe notice anything. I've never know anyone have concerns regarding clay settling. And I believe the benefits are beneficial to the fish and pond. Hope that helps mate. Regards Andy

      Your welcome mate, I only use it fortnightly now and monthly when temps drop, you probably won't see its full benefits now (water clarity), but it will still remove pollutants and add minerals. Hope your in the competition, theres a bag for grabs 😊
