    No joke, I have Eureka Whirlwind PTSD. I worked on so many of those dirt belching monstrosities.

      And dirt gets in the motor and makes a lovely ear piercing chainsaw sound

    So many memories I have with these machines! I especially remember along with other people how the motors on these vacuum cleaners sounded awful and had a nasty screech if they got in really bad shape! Wonderful video!

    I remember seeing these commonly in the 2000s and now I barely see them, I know someone who had one and it was very loud
    Love when you do these videos showing us the engineering and design of different vacuums in more detail it’s very interesting, keep it up! 👍🏽

    These are so rare to find in this condition, most sound like a blender full of glass

    I use to own a big cup but mine was the early one from 2000 where the filter is a foam with a screen instead of a cartridge filter on the later ones and that thing let so much dust into the motor and the motor sound progressively gotten worse and worse then it started to fall apart on how brittle it's getting.

    0:39 I still own the blue one right now today. Why? Nostalgic reasons. It was '98 when my mom brought it. I've kept it running all these years later. But I'll admit there are better vacs out there today.

    Most bagless vacuums from the 2000’s were junk since they needed a lot of maintenance to keep them going since the filters would clog fairly quickly and thankfully my mother bought a Hoover Breathe Easy instead of buying into the bagless vacuum craze of the late 90’s and 2000’s. Only good bagless vacuum I think was decent for what it was around this time were the Workhorse Cleartrak vacuums and a friend of mine told me they got away with selling them since they were sold as “refurbished”.

  • @seana806
    @seana806 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The only other good bagless vacuum I can think of that were around this timer were Rainbow since it captured all the dirt in the water and just needed to be disposed of down the toilet. The only bagless vacuums I’ll ever own will be my vintage Kirby’s with shake out bags and yes those are direct air vacuums aka dirty air vacuums but don’t spew dust like these bagless vacuums from the 2000’s with filters that need to be replaced every few months along with being cleaned after every use. Come to think of it, bagless vacuums from the 2000’s REALLY are dirty air vacuums since they spew and belch out dust whenever you use them especially if the filters are worn out or haven’t been changed in awhile.

    I have 2 of the black Whirlwind bagless machines and 2 dark green EnVisions, the EnVision and the Vision that preceded it are far superior machines, they still require regular maintenance but they can run a lot longer before needing maintenance especially with the updated filters which have a washable foam prefilter, One nice thing about the EnVision is the filter cartridge is higher up in the bin away from the larger particles similar to the Sanitaire bagless machine which I also don't quite mind. Still won't own one in favor of the bagged variant but I worked on one awhile back and it had been working trouble free for 6 years until the brushroll bearings melted and the belt started burning which led to it ending up on my work bench with a burning rubber smell complaint. Brushroll spun fine out of the machine but when installed it had too much resistance and the bristles were just about gone, in went an OEM brushroll and belt and after a cleaning and tuneup it was out the door with a spare belt, hasn't been back since so I think it's still going. Had an identical machine in for low suction, needed a new hose but customer refused the repair and tuneup so I repaired it with tile tape and sent it on its way, either the repair is holding up or the machine died due to neglect as I haven't seen it since.

    Do you remember a kenmore bagless vacuum from the early 2000’s that had a little red “filter screen cleaner” that spun around as you vacuumed.

  • @isaacpark8885
    @isaacpark8885 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    These are awful. I had a bagless one given to me and the motor was so quiet and pleasant sounding. The filters would clog after cleaning only one room and within a matter of a handful of uses the machine progressively became louder and louder. The bagged versions of these were fantastic though in my opinion. They didn't trash the motors with dirty air and they had great suction for their time.

    The Whirlwind was Eureka's answer to the Fantom vacuums that were very popular in the 1990's. Honestly, the Fantoms worked much better in terms of cyclonic separation. Still, I'd buy a Whirlwind if it and its motor were in good condition. It's a unique vac to have in my collection.

    My mom had one it lasted about ten years and she finally got rid of it due to the poor cleaning performance. And high upkeep on filter replacement. We then had a Bissell healthy home what a pos that thing was. Eventually it was replaced with a Eureka airspeed gold until the dust cup broke they still use it for vacuuming out the cars duct tape holding the bin in place. Her latest vacuum is a Hoover wind tunnel high capacity. After more than twenty years of my mom using bagless machines she said when this one breaks its back to a bagged machine because she hates having to constantly clean and replace the filters on the bagless machines.

    I have a Eureka bagless widetrack which is basically this same vacuum. I bought it new many years ago and still use it somewhat. I ran across this video because I am searching for a way to disassemble it enough to clean it out. It has stopped sucking up dirt and now just moves the dirt around the floor. The hose still picks up, but I'd like to get the main floor vacuum to work again until I find a good replacement. I appreciate this video. It gave me some things to think about for the next vacuum. I do like the bagless feature, but I'd like to find a vacuum that works better and doesn't have several filters that need frequent replacements. If you have any recommendations, I'd love to hear about them.

    Hey, performance reviews. We had a Eureka just like this at a church. I used to clean.
    I want to know if you know what makes them sound like a chain saw. Is it dirt in the motor or what does that and how did you fix that?

    Interesting review. I have one from 2000 and still works wonderfully. You don't need to change the filters as often as recommended. This machine suction is so strong this makes me laugh. I swear you must have a dud.
