What musicianship in this band!! I am a collector of christian music videos. Do you want copies of the videos I have posted for yourself? Check out my web site. www.geocities.c... Write to me!! lets trade!!!
I was going to college and attending the Calvary Chapel in Riverside, California where I was blessed to hear Greg Laurie preach and be amazed at the amazing musical talents of christian music artists like The Sweet Comfort Band and others! I had no idea how truly lucky I was to be in the audience every week to hear them! My life was changed because of them all!
Me too, I went to Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa and heard them. Also, if I’m not mistaken, they were at Disney’s “Night of Joy,” Too bad Disneyland stopped that.
This band was so much ahead of their time. All four of the musicians are a perfect blend. Incredible musicianship. Wonderful music. Never get tired of listening!
I was there and love those guys, even saw my 16 year old self in those audience shots. Went on promote 10 concerts with Sweet Comfort - all to God's glory!
This man lead me to Christ in 1978 at Calvary Chapel Riverside. Then through a unique set if circumstances, he ended up at my house 10 years later! God is so unbelievable!! Sadly passed away a few years ago. God bless Kevin Thomson!!
I'm seeing this guys for the first time today September 16, 2021 and they are great. Even by today's standards. I wish I had noticed them back in the 70s.
Bass player in this video now in the Fater's arms in Heaven. What an amazing player and amazing band that release household names into the Christian music world. he will be missed!
I was so lucky to be raised with great food musicians pouring hearts out gifted talented SOLD OUT FIR JESUS TOUCHED BY HIS ❤️ LOVE. JOY 😊 TRUE FAMILY...
Absoloutly tremendous musicians, this is from a time when musicians loved their craft, and combined with a group who loved JESUS, nothing like it. Music like this very rarely exists anymore. Praise God for their talent and that they used them for HIS GLORY!!!!
You need to check out Neal Morse, a whole new generation as it always should have been--reaching a diverse audience. SCB was great at that time, and the message was presented much more directly. Everything has its season.
Had no idea that Sweet Comfort Band could jam this good! Only became familiar with the personnel after Bryan Duncan had gone solo. Reminds me of Phil Keaggy and Glass Harp. Great stuff and it's all wonderful when it's Christ-centered!
Wore their vinyl and 8 Tracks out. Yeah, that’s how old I am. Saw them live in Dallas. Tight band with a great message. Brian’s vocal is second to none.
I booked them twice in 1979 & 80 when they where touring. I recognize this shoot. 1978 concert at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa California with Chuck Smith. I have this whole concert on 3/4" Studio Video tape. long with Larry Norman, Randy Stonehill, Honeytree, Daniel Amos & Isaac Air Freight.
Wow. So do you have the whole show that was broadcast or the entire concert? I would love to se the whole show. If you are interested I have many other shows of all the bands you mentioned. We could set up a trade. email me at kshavo1@gmail.com
They did a concert at the college I went to in 80/81, never saw a band play Christian rock/r&b music before, they played a good show, I was blown away. Wanted to follow that path myself afterward, but didn't happen. The thing I remember is the bass player played a solo on a guitar that had red LED lights on the neck, don't know what brand it was, but I was knocked out by that..., impressionable 18 year old.
Pure greatness --- SCB !!!!. I so enjoyed these Maranatha concerts back in the late 70's. Good to see these posted ... B.D. is so very talented, what a gifted performer.
At Church On The Way in Van Nuys we used to have Friday night concerts at something we called "House of Fire and Rain". These guys were regulars. Loved them.
I played on that stage a lifetime ago. I'll never forget in the middle of playing I heard a voice addressing me and was so confused. As I looked around the voice said, "This is the sound man, your sax pickup isn't working, step up to the mic." I almost started laughing because I thought I was losing my mind. Apparently they do such a great job of keeping that stage and yet a lot of volume through the mains that the sound guy could calmly give me instructions without the audience hearing. Of course these days they would be using in ear monitoring.
Wish I could of seen these guys live. By the time I discovered them, they parted ways but atlleast I got to hear some of them as the Allies and Bryan as a solo artist. I did see Allies live and they were amazing as well.
This group really spoke to my heart when I was a teen, I even sang "just like me" to my wife to propose. Bryan Duncan was kicked out of the school I later graduated from, now that was cool. I always loved the energy that came from that man.
I remember seeing them perform in 1980 at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, and in Agoura, CA in 1984. These guys are great! They are polished and professional - one of the better Christian bands of the 1970s.
These guys were a cut above most other Christian music bands back in the day. More of a jazz style. More entertaining than worshipful. But each kind of music has it's place. But in my opinion, not for a Sunday morning service. This may have been a Friday Night Concert night at CCCM which I used to attend back in the 70's and early 80's.
Why not for Sunday morning Worship? There are mega mall churches that play that awful sounding metal screaming Christian music that sounds like the devil himself is doing the singing/screaming.... This is by far very very appropriate for any worship service......
Randy (along with Phil Keaggy) was my guitar hero when I was just starting out as a guitar player. Great to see these videos. Brings back memories! :) m
The 1st time I saw Petra, they were opening for SCB (and they Petra couldn't hold a candle to SCB). I had the opportunity to see several of their concerts including their last concert in 84 (Riverside pulled the plug at 10 just as they were getting to the good stuff) I recently found out they reunited in 2001, I wish I would have know I hope they play again, because I will be there. God Bless you guys, here's looking forward to the best jam session ever in Heaven praising God with all we have.
Good word! EVERYONE wants to be there! EVERYONE will be there. Revelation 7:9-10 After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.
So thankful that I got to see them several times in the early 80's. What a great band! I was sorry to hear about Kevin, but there is no doubt he is home with the Lord.
They were absolutely my favorite Christian band back in the day. I was a teen goin to Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa back then. I saw Bryan Duncan with his band not long ago here in Wenatchee, Washington. Good to see him after so long.
Please pray for Kevin Thomson's family..he passed away yesterday. He was the bass player and an amazing man! I knew him back in the Sweet Comfort days and he was a great man of God.
Saw them back in 1982 at Warehouse Ministries in Rancho Cordova California during the Cutting Edge Tour. Fast forward to 1990. I had the opportunity to open for Bryan Duncan when he went solo during the Strong Medicine tour. It was an awesome evening!
They are truly blessed with talent... I had seen them with a number of bands at a retreat in Chicago.....Awesome time SCB was amazing Brian has a voice...WOW
i was at this concert at cc and it was great. to bad about the bass player he has gone to that great place he talked about here in the beginning of this video. He is playing for the lord now!!
Hey, I grew up in a Calvary Chapel church too - Crossroads Community Church in Vancouver, WA ... and now I live in Wenatchee too, where I'm the bass player at Foothills Foursquare Church :)
I was born in '71 so I never knew their music. I first heard of them in the late 80s from seeing a special done at a church. Talkin about the influence of secular rock. Anyway, they gave a pamplet of christian group/secular groups comparisons & I believe Comfort Sweet was on the list.
Wow. This brings back memories... Not sure why but this weekend I was thinking about Sweet Comfort Band and I'm so glad I did a search here on TH-cam. This is a great post cause it has Bryan and then the guitar solos... Classic SCB.
I never saw Bryan Duncan Look so young! I have a picture that I took with him and Russ Taff, along with his wife! Now I have to dig it out of my thousands of pix and will put it on Instagram so that Bryan gets to see it. He is wearing a super long red scarf that has black music notes on it. That is because it was Christmas time and fairly cold here in Indy!
I heard these guys not too long after they got together. I don't think they had recorded their first album yet. They came to a local high school and played in the gymnasium for maybe 100 people. Randy and Bryan did a duelling thing. Randy would play something on his guitar and Bryan would duplicate it with his voice! It was one of the most remarkable things I've ever seen or heard. Over thirty years later, their music still holds up. Incredibly gifted guys. Love Sweet Comfort!
I'm with You on that, Ms. Edwards. Just an FYI, all these brothers still love Jesus, and are still active musically. They recorded a reunion CD about two years ago, although Kevin Thompson, that skilled bass player, went Home to be with the Lord, a few years ago. Just recently, Bryan was invited to our church to share his great music, past and present! He did an excellent job! so good to see him again!!
Wow! Look at Bryan Duncan. He's so young looking ! LOL! I only started hearing his songs in the late 80s early 90s. So this is kind of new to me. I've heard the music but not videos of these guys.
Heck, I may have been there if it was the early 80s. Love it. One of the complaints back then was that too much Christian music was either just not good musicianship or that they were poorly produced. Most of that still seems true of that era, but this band and Keith Green and Phil Keaggy and some more like that would never be caught with poor musicianship! Love this video. When was it filmed?
Bryan Duncan was in this band prior to going solo. It’s 2021 and the world is in such chaos. King Xiden has ordered everyone to bow to his false god. We are definitely looking for Jesus Christ in the clouds!!!!✨🙌🏼
Anyone know of any other Christian bands of the 70's and 80's available on youtube? Sweet Comfort Band is one of my favorite bands of that era. I wish I could see one of their songs like...Valery, Armed and Ready, etc.
I am still stuck in The Jesus Movement, I still listen to these guys in 2025.
Gotta love Bryan Duncan's sideburns!
Praise Jesus! 👨🌾
