What a catch! Hard to beat that special feeling of reeling in and landing a monster like that on light gear. I ended up getting spooled at Applecross jetty last week with 15 pound braid on my 3500. Well done!
Unreal Danga, it warms the cockles of my heart living vicariously through you on that one! Couple of questions - When did you realise it was a mully and not a ray or a bull? What was the final measure? Were you tempted to turn him into one of your culinary delights?
Thanks Marty !! I though you would enjoy this one! When I have hooked a ray they stick to the bottom like a wet mattress so new it wasn't one or thought more likely mully. To be honest I didn't consider a bull but probs should have thought about it! Final measure was 114 👍👍 as for cooking it up she was pretty golden from the river and my wife definitely wouldn't eat it haha. So thought would let it go
Congrats on a PB and really great work landing it on light tackle. What a lovely fish and a great reward. I doubt if a bigger one will be caught upriver this season. Well done mate!
@@DangasTackleTips you never know mate. They are out there. I have recently seen a couple of very large Mulloway under the narrows bridge holding in the current. I've also seen 4 or 5 very large fish holding in the current in the deep water of Mosman, just 10metres out from the bank. I could clearly see on my sonar them moving from side to side and up and down the water column. I'm 100% sure they were large Mulloway. I've also seen a very large one just below the Matagarup Bridge.
@lucassellwood thanks mate! I like areas from basso to the city make from land based or around the city. Look for the bait mate, insect hatchings and fish on the change of tide when the flow stops. Bends in the river and where It drops of deep in sections.
Well done. Was waiting for the vid after seeing the photo posted earlier. Hell proud, and look at the depth of the colours, dark stain in her for sure from those waters. Well fought on the gear you you were running - and great to see those lures worked for ya, im yet to try them myself. Good size to release as well, she will add to the biomass nicely ! Have you had a go on the bream with the bait junkies before ? I typically use gulps and zmans in the same size, what is your take on them. Cheers !
Thanks mate! They go well on the bream. Bit of a zman slimswimz style lure. Not sure if any better but easy to rig and had a few good sessions with them
Bridges, bends of the river and area where the river narrows is always good mate. If you are targeting them on bait, fresh or live bait is the best. On lures a good 5 inch soft plastic on a 5/0 hook would be a good start
Great catch - it can be surprising how big a fish you can catch on light tackle. Definitely key is the balance of the set up and not rushing to bring the fish in. I like how you put your knowledge of the area to good use to avoid the line coming into contact with the snags which would have put an end to the fight and that you released such a beautiful fish. I am going to try in the Swan further East to see how i go. Not put lots of time in the past but the video shows it is possible if you get out there.
Thanks mate! Absolutely right about how you fight the fish on the light gear. You just have to fish to the strength of the braid and leader otherwise a fish like that will just snap the line if you try and muscle it in! Good luck out there mate!
Unreal mate, the amount of times i have been on that bank without even a thought that a big mulloway could nail the small lures i am chucking around. Really epic on that gear, and in that location
After watching this video last night I got a 65cm one today near the casino on a cheap light wight bream set up that cost me 120 with braids on a vibe was using a 2000 real 3/5kg rod with 6lb braid and 10lb leader was god fun
Great catch mate. Even greater to see that you swam him off. Legend
Thanks mate! Gave him a few minutes to get somw water in the gills and swam off well
Amazing catch, and to release healthily too.....Bravo
Thanks mate! Swam off strong after a long fight mate. Was in good condition

Oh mate i was over the moon to see you release it!!!! Great job, awesome fish and such a good release!!! Big ups bro, top notch fishing!!

Been looking forward to this one.
Great fish with the almost full moon in the background dude. Congrats.
Thanks mate will be a hard one to beat!
Mate, well done. What a fantastic catch, and to do it on such light gear! Legend. Love your videos

Hey mate, congratulations, fish of a life time! Would you recommend the Siglon Braid for “Breaming”the flats?
Thanks mate! I have only used it for a few weeks but seems great! I had one wind knot in the first session but been fine since

Just mono line mate. Was done at balcatta getaway with the spooling machine. Think it was 10lb mono
