    Happily tried this in a whiskey bar in Ireland (Ennis) this Christmas- holy cow! The complexity, richness and length of finish was a revelation - the best whiskey I've tried in my journey so far. A level above the 15, which itself is excellent.

    A delicious whiskey by any standard, but the $359 price here in Southern California is a deterrent. Long live the Redbreast 15.

    This is among the fanciest whiskies I have currently on the shelf. I was a big fan of the 12, and when my local store had this on pre-order, I purchased two bottles of the 21 without having tasted it before. I certainly do not regret buying these - the 21 is a fantastic whisky that, like you mentioned, everyone can get behind on some level. Butterscotch shortbread cookie with a ton of fruit flavors. It even comes in a fancy wooden box to help impress your friends! Most of all, my very first sip of this stuff was in the presence of the great Gwhisky (!) which means this dram will always have a special place in my heart. Thanks for all you do, Geoff - keep these videos coming! :)

With so many whiskies out there, having your opinion on various bottles is a massive help, and you've been able to condense your thoughts into incredibly entertaining and digestible videos. Thanks again and happy 2024!

    According to FineDrams, it is NCF & natural color. I'd love to try this one, but given the price, it is currently way over the horizon for me. Thankfully, I have the Cask Strength to keep me warm in the meantime. Cheers!

    I was on a whiskey bar adventure in Dublin over Christmas, and went through a lot of the core Midleton single pot still range (Redbreast, Spot and Powers).
    My favourite remains Powers Johns Lane - price and performance is excellent. The cask strength released recently is excellent.
    Red Spot is second and Redbreast 21 third. But I must emphasise that this is like watching the Olympics - gold, silver, and bronze to these guys but every runner on the field is excellent.
    As I mentioned in another comment, Midleton do a great job at consistently increasing the quality and complexity with age and price. So you can always find your sweet spot.
    Worth also mentioning for any of you thinking of trying Irish from scotch or similar - start with Midleton but there are an awful lot of distilleries producing good stuff now (after a long fallow period). Teelings, West Cork and Dingle spring to mind, for example. So there is a good adventure to go on. And of course, Irish single malt is not to be sniffed at!

    Happy New Year, Geoff! I have owned a Redbreast 21 yo that I also bought as a gift to myself, three years ago. Still haven’t opened it. Bought it for $205 - now it’s $390! Edmonton - Canada. I’ll try the 15 yo before I open the 21 yo. I love, love, love the Cask Strength.

    Hey Geoff! Glad you finally found your way to the 21y old :) I got it as a gift for my 30th birthday last year and it is my favorite whisky so far!
    Fyi, in Germany the Whiskys have to be labeled when caramel colorant was added and as this is not the case for the 21y, i can safely assume it is not colored. Also the box it comes in is just a marvel 😮 the glenmorangie signet and redbreast 21 next on each are an eyecatcher..
    Greetings and thanks for the great review:)
    Edit: it was about 140€ last year (2022) and its still the same today in my market. So i think an overall fair price.

    Good Video Jeff. Surprisingly Redbreast has held prices down compared to other brands. Amazing how other reviewers don't allow RB21 to open up before evaluating it. I find RB21 needs a little time in the glass to really get the full benefits of this whiskey. I see RB in my area for ~240 USD. You can spend more if you don't shop.

    I absolutely love the 21 and always keep an unopened backup on hand. Not saying I blow through it, but it is definitely my most favorite Redbreast. Redbreast 12 CS Batch 1/22 is the only one that came close (yes I sure did buy a case of it after I tasted it). Redbreast 12 and 15 I feel is inferior to the Spot line up. Green Spot is better than the 12 and the Red Spot blows the 15 out of the water. I did just trade a bottle of Thomas Handy 2023 I paid MSRP for a Redbreast 27 so super stoked to have an occasion to warrant opening it. All the Irish whiskey in the US shot up recently too. Redbreast 21 is now $430, Blue Spot is $290, Red Spot is $330, and Redbreast 12 CS is just over $100.

    If you have a nice whisky bar in your area, in my opinion, the 27 is worth a pour. Not sure any whisky is worth $500-$600 a bottle, but I didn't regret the $30 USD I paid for the dram. Not something I'd get every time I went out to dinner, but happily did it on vacation. Easily in my top 5...but I'm a sucker for port cask.

    • @MasterMote
      @MasterMote 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      $30 is a ridiculously good value for a dram of redbreast 27. I never get whisky at bars cuz i find around me it's all ridiculously overpriced. I've seen Johnnie walker blue for $50 a shot, that's just insane. Probably the red breast 12 cs would be $30 a shot by me, the 27yr would probably be over $100 if they had it at all. Id get a double if they had the price of course u can't turn that down. $30 for a shot/dram? That's almost as good a value as the entire bottle.

    • @Cobbbler
      @Cobbbler 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@MasterMote Honestly, same. The whisky bars near me are absurdly priced, with only decent selection. I had the 27 in Tokyo. I generally find the prices there MUCH more reasonable than California, where I'm from. I actually found it hard to spend more than $100 a night without getting more drunk than I wanted to.

    • @MasterMote
      @MasterMote 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Cobbbler probably because in Tokyo people know their whisky and what things are worth, meanwhile in America most are clueless and tho who want to spend big dont do so cuz they can taste the difference but just want to feel they are getting something "special" and the high price is what makes it special, otherwise they wouldn't know. Thats my theory anyway.

    So I finally pulled the trigger and ordered RB21. $380 - 20% off ($304), in Alberta, Canada.
    My justification for buying this is - I'll probably never find RB21 at this price ever again, considering Canada's horrendous alcohol prices. Bill, from the Whiskey Dictonary, paid $230 USD (which is $314.50, based on the current exchange rate). So i dont think I'm going to find a better price than this.

I’ve never owned a bottle that old before so I have to admit I always maybe naively thought the jump in quality would be really high but it seems like even though it’s better than the 15, it’s not night and day better, is that fair?

    @GOTAisMe 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The price is so frustrating. $430 in the New York area for the Redbreast 21. The Redbreast 15 is $145. Geoff when you spoke about the nuance and complexity based on age it absolutely convinced me that the 15 is close enough given that it'a about 1/3 the price. Honestly I'm even good with the cask strength 12 which is $115. The Spot whiskeys have also gone nuts with price increases so this is clearly a Middleton premium whiskey strategy because their regular Jameson has remained cheap

    • @aaronmckenna6654
      @aaronmckenna6654 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      At least here in Ireland they’ve taken to discounting Powers Johns Lane and Three Swallows. Johns Lane IMO stands up as possibly the best of the range at 12 year old.
      Agreed that 15 or cask strength is where the sweet spot for Redbreast lays.
      Spot whiskey has its own taste profile that I love - had a bottle of Red Spot during the year, and got a dram of Yellow Spot in a pub over Christmas and was reminded what I enjoyed about it. Midleton does that well - consistent steps in quality with price.

    Tasted over the holidays…totally not worth the high price at this point…value is long lost and tbh it wasnt nearly as complex as the whole internet world paints it to be

      Agree. Not uber complex. I'm lucky it's affordable in my market. Most international prices are absurd. 🥃
