Hi, I’m 16 years old and am starting an electrical apprenticeship next year with hopes to start a home automation business where I live in Perth, Western Australia. Such a high quality video, I just wish you produced more content like this because seeing something that’s not come from the US in this area is refreshing. Keep up the fantastic work! Ps: that tray of rainbow CAT6 😩💦
Hi Mitch, I’m glad you enjoyed the video! It’s been a busy year for me, but I am intending on producing at least 2 more videos with a look at the AV rack and the house more in general. I’d suggest that if you are looking to pursue integrated systems in future, do as much reading as possible. It’s what I did. AVSForums.com is a very useful source of information. Also, look at Cedia. They have a wealth of information on home automation and best practice.
Hi, I’ve still got it planned, but due to waiting on other trades and general life, time hasn’t been on my side. But rest assured, it’s still definitely on the cards!
This feels like a very old school way of connecting things. Wired internet is always ideal, but the amount of data lines run here are mostly redundant. This is all just designed for this particular smart system, which I would imagine is going to be incredibly insular and not expandable later which is why its a lot. Maybe I'm just particular because I like more control, but this all seems excessive and mostly useless. Every single item can be added to a robust wireless network without any interference at this point, and expanded upon later. Just install the hardwired networking cables where you need it and take out all the POE switches for the volume and lights. Do you need volume control on your wall for the room sound? Do you need your light switches to be POE? I guess if money was no issue, but even then, there is a lot of pork in this system.
Don’t think you understand the system. None of the light switches or lights are PoE. The system is one of the most open smart home platforms available actually. It just happens that light switches and sensors use cat5e for their Bus protocol.
Hey I live in the United state was looking to get Loxone system into this house I’m building. How much would you say Loxone system cost for two family house?
Mike Abellard it’s very changeable depending on what you want to use it for and what field hardware is used(light switch type/brand etc), I’d recommend contacting a local dealer in your area, for a chat. They will be far more useful in giving you a specific idea on pricing than I could.
Great video! planning to build my own home as well with home automation being a big yes and this video is really useful. One question tho, the ceilling speakers are connected to the amplifier you showed ? If so, the amplifier is capable of multi room ?
@@cablekid3807 Cool, thank you. And you can control it via your network (example, home assistant) or only control it individually threw the keypad ? EDIT: Nvm, I just found out it is possible. Have been looking for this for a long time!
yiannisis bathrooms and WC use a Loxone Temp-Humidity sensor which is wall- mounted (little square box). Of the rooms that use Faradite TAP5 wall switches, the temperature sensor is integrated, and finally for rooms using a Niko retractive switch, there are 1-Wire Temp sensors sitting behind the switch. Again, these are made by Loxone themselves
Of course. But the point is not to rely on WiFi as much as possible. Cables are much more reliable, secure and more practical applications where equipment doesn’t move.
Dani OptiX I used 16/4 speaker cable for the speakers. It’s the Pink Cable you see in the AV Hub. The 5.1 area uses the same Pink Speaker cable. The Yellow CAT6 marked “Audio” is actually for telephones or Fax or just another data port.
Dani OptiX here I used a Monoprice 6 Zone 12 Channel kit. It has 6 audio inputs, 6 zone outs with keypads. Dayton Audio also have practically the same amp kit. I think it’s made in China and just rebadged. 40W/channel I think
Corb Elec initially it was just my own research online. AVS Forums is a particularly good source of info. However, I later learned a lot more on the job working for a firm which specialised in home automation
Could you just have ran CAT6A all one colour to pre wire all the same stuff? Just to save money? I can get 1000 feet for under 500 but its all 1 color insulation. Like will all that equipment/gadgets support cat6A -the coax and HDMI Speaker wire
SAVAGESLAUGHTER Cat6a was kind of overkill for standard data networking here, and was only used for the video distribution for piece of mind with crosstalk or interference when sending 4K video over. As for the different colours, there needed to be many runs, and having the different colours simply makes troubleshooting and identifying cables slightly easier.
Yes, could use CAT6a for all of the runs, but it would be total overkill for the other applications such as LAN, Volume control, and audio returns. Another consideration is that CAT6a is quite a bit more rigid than CAT6 due to the additional shielding and the central spine, which would make it more difficult to patch into panels. Not impossible, but more difficult.
Thanks my dude ! Your hookup looks so good! Im kind of new to this but not to construction, im finished framing and pulling electrical and find all this smart home stuff, so at the very least I want the wires in the wall for future use. Thanks again for the intel god bless!
Hello, I have a question, Could you please send me what cables and tools used in this house as a text file? I watched your video and its awesome, and all of the tools that used called in the video, but I need them in a file, please. so if you send me you'll help me. thanks.
Wow awesome job done here !!! Congrats ! Quick question,: - how are you planning to handle the hdmi over ethernet stuff ? I mean How does it work ? - are you using any type of connector ?
Lionnel Afangbedjee hdmi over ethernet, also known as HDBaseT uses a main box in a central location, (an HDMI Matrix) which takes all of the Hdmi inputs of each device. Then it has RJ45 outputs to send that video and audio to a room. There, the process is just reversed with a room balun. The CAT6a goes in and HDMI come out. This just plugs into the tv Take a look at companies like BluStream, HDAnywhere or Wyrestorm for a more info. They all make AV Matrices
Generally speaking you would send the tender to the electricians who are wiring the house for the General Electric setup. Most smart home companies pass along the cable pulling to the electricians and then terminate themselves. It will be very beneficial if you can send the electricians or whoever is doing it a cable schedule. Break down what cable goes from where to where. Planning is the most important thing. That way they can quote based on requirements

@@cablekid3807 so after spending a little time researching company’s TOGET onboard regarding the setup, I have been introduced to 3 main systems, loxon, savant and control 4, do you have any views on them?

This is what I really wanted for my Dream house bro. Thanks for the video.
Really impressive and inspiring stuff here mate! Would love to see how it's progressed
So they say I'm a cable maniac ! Thanks for the video, and can't wait for the "installed" update :-)
Very nice video! I’m looking to prewire my future home, do you have a video of the finished house? That’d be great!
awesome work. Thanks for the details and the actual walk through. Very helpful, Cheers
love to see this, thank you
Cool. Getting ideas for my new gut house project
Great video. Would love to see more content.
Love it! Can't wait to do mine. Thanks for making the comprehensive video.
Is there like a cost estimate smart home vs non smart home. I am guessing we are talking about an additional 15k in price here?

Good video. How did you handle the shielding on the cat6a? Did you just have it ground at one end at the patch panel to prevent ground loops?
David Pelan the C6A has a direct run to the matrix. No patch panel for those. It adds hassle and potential problems.
