My WH-1000XM4 died in their 13 month March 2021 - April 2022 Had to send to United Repair in Upstate NY they confirmed more expensive to repair then to buy New Pair Don't get me wrong I LOVED the XM4's and hoping a longer life with XM5
I’ve had the XM5 for a few days, upgraded from the Bose QC35. The biggest concern I had was them not folding, but when I compared to my Bose, it was only slightly bigger. The sound is just to my liking and the ANC is amazing.

My xm4 silent white limited edition still looks new and I am loving it 😍 guess I’m just gonna wait for the xm6 release next year prolly it will have much better design and I wanted as white as my xm4.
I dont think XM6 will be released next year, approximately there is 2-3 years between generations.
Have a much earlier version in the Sony MDR-ZX770BN that are still the best headphones I have and love the overall sound stage. Do not care about how I look in them so tried to use them out on my walks. Thing is with glasses, and the wind we get from the Columbia River gorge just too much wind noise gets in.
Earbuds/pods of any type have never stayed in my ears without something like earhooks, and even then sometime drop out. Problem when you add earhooks to earbuds/pods is they do not go back into the wireless case unless you remove the earhooks.
So went with Ultimate Ears UE FITS at $169.00 for my walks. This is not the solution for everyone. Thing is have had them for over a month and unlike earbuds/pods in the past these are the first pair that have not fell out of either ear. Thing is they also do not feel like they are falling out of my ear.
Are they perfect? Have yet to find a pair of earbuds that sound as good as my over the ear headphones (cans). Purchased new Instant-Chill Replacement Earpads which do a better job of keeping the wind out, however it still gets in or I would wear my Sony MDR-ZX770BN cans while out on my walks.
i have sony 1000 xm5s and i have tried airpod max too. I feel xm5 are more comfortable to wear and
the sound quality and noise cancelling is really phenomenal. I really feel these were my best 500 dollar investment ever.

I notice you have a link to a $425 price for the Max. So that drops the $150 difference in price to just $25. The Max is widely discounted from list price now.
Would your recommendation change if they were (almost) the same price? Since you said 'for the price' several times, when balancing them out.
I like my Max, which I alternate with my AirPod Pros. They both do spatial sound and Dolby Atmos, which we both appreciate. They also do Dolby Digital Surround. Sony tries to do something similar, but their coding standard has limited support. How do you rate Sony's attempt as a viable different spatial solution?
For me, this makes the difference (unless the Sonys sounded better, which you deny).
I have an older Sony headset, maybe four generations back. But even then it was considered Sony's (next) gold standard on ANC, which is why I bought it. I still have it, and it is great. The cups are slightly small and eventually my ears hurt (hours later), but otherwise I have no complaints. This newest edition has larger ear cups, so I'd probably love it.
But I'm deep in the Apple ecosystem, and my next set will be the AirPod Pro 2s. I expect they will add on support for high-resolution music through AirPlay, along with the Max, by software update.
At the same price, Id lean APM to stick with the Apple ecosystem, Spatial Audio, and slightly better audio.
Thanks for the review. I decided on the XM5s. Biggest Apple Cons for me is having to put the Apples back in the case to turn off, lightning cables, and no 3.5mm jack without an adapter. I’m an avid traveler and sometimes planes have free movies that require a jack. I’m also sick of Apple decertifying my off brand lighting cables that suddenly stop working. There’s no excuse for not using USB-C. I also like using my headphones in bed, and tend to toss them off when I dose off. The idea of searching for my case so that I don’t kill my batteries is a big deal breaker.

Andrew - Please help me. I am looking for a ALL-IN-ONE power bank for my - Macbook pro 16” intel , Ipad pro M1 , iphone 13 pro max , Apple Watch . I travel a lot and looking for a portal power bank. I recently purchased a Anker powder bank , but that was very limited to phones , didn’t had a USB- C for macbook or ipad pro M1 . Any powerbank you recommended ?

The real question is how much capacity are you looking for. If you want to charge you Mac, you likely want a large battery. The largest you can get and still FLY with is 26800mAh. From what I heard, LDAC does make the XM5 sound better which iPhones don't support.
If it sounds better with LDAC, unfortunately no iPhone or iPad are compatible with that codec to obtain the best sound quality via bluetooth, you would have to use it with an Android

I tested the xm5 in the store for over an hour...
Headband pressure on XM5 was much higher than AirPods Max
because the surface area of the headband is so small.
Pressure on the ears was lower at xm5 but they sweat really easily.
Xm5 is more on the ear than around the ears because the pads
are so soft that they go all the way down and there is no free air left in the ears.
I would have liked to buy an xm5 because i liked xm5 sound quality more than apple (not so processed).I didn't buy them because of headband pressure.
I have had AirPods max for a year, otherwise i am really happy but the sound quality should be closer to the original.
and Bose 700 was more comfortable than xm5 but its ANC is much worse than sony or Apple.
Ive been listening to them for several hours of the past several days prior to shooting this and fit is just user-specific. Personally, while I think the AirPods Max are comfy, they aren't as comfy as the XM5. You say the pressure is higher than the APM because the surface area is so small. While it is a smaller band, they way almost HALF as much as the APM so personally, even with a smaller surface area the pressure per inch was still greater on the APM than the XM5.
I agree the faux leather makes you ears warm for sure.
Everyone is going to have something specific that fits their head and such. The best thing folks can do is try them out.

I believe important to mention is that Airpods Max sounds better while listening on iphone device, once you will use some premium android as Galaxy S series from Samsung, you will jump in to LDAC area and things are changing drastically on Sony's plus. So iphone with AirPods and Android with Sony in terms of sound for sure.
But AirPods Max are superior to XM5. Even Sennheiser momentum 4 is better

@@AppleInsider I hear ya bro. I'm Team Apple all the way lol I went to Apple Store on Michigan Avenue, and was shocked. The XM5's are better than the APM, and that's facts. I'm giving Sony their props.
Sony wins because it has hifi 360 dolby atmos. And it's something people don't realise
Truly, the sound quality difference between these two headphones is major... and the AirPod Max is the clear winner. People often focus on EQ curves, but for the most part these differences can be compensated for. Where the true difference between these two headphones lies is in the solidity of the sonic image, the separation of the elements, clarity, etc. The XM5 tends to smear the image whereas the AirPods deliver a much more spacious and solid an image. And I say this coming from headphones like the Audeze LCD-X. The only headphones I have heard that I enjoyed more that have ANC are the B&O H95... unfortunately their ANC is not as effective.

AirPods Max are the best headphones I have ever owned. I have no reason to buy the xm5. AirPods Max blew away my XM4s and my AirPods Max blew away XM4 earbuds also. Not a huge Apple fan either they just are better when it comes to headphones especially connect with Apple Music and spatial audio.
Am pretty sure the presenter is having her no bra day on this one.
Honestly, I would be embarrassed using Apples. They look ridiculous. That's just my opinion.
