If only the government can keep this same energy with rapist and killers. 42 years for drug dealing (which is bad) but rapist getting 10 years make it make sense.
@don k ummmm, what about peterfiles? You would put a drug dealer below a child toucher? I am pretty sure that this is the problem with the penal system and society as a whole.
Yeah..this outrageous..sitting there for months watching them play video games, play with guns, beat up girlfriend which isnt right..but this was kinda of small time...im not excusing them but 42 years..25 years..go after cartels ..crooked cops and white collars ..those are the ones who should get 42 years
@@giagiavoni Imagine having a choice to not sell heroin. Those boys weren't forced into anything, those boys absolutely don't care about their mothers because otherwise they wouldn't do it. They just wanted quick money and if you noticed how they treated women, you must know they weren't nice guys. All that stuff about being forced into something is just bulls**t to make them feel better. You join a gang already knowing you're gonna die or go to jail. When you end up on heroin because of a doctor who unnecessarily prescribed opiates, it's not the same.
Montrell’s grandmother is an outstanding, strong women who is incredibly wise. You can tell she’s seen so much pain and devastation in her life and she still finds a way to stay positive. The world would be a much better place with more ppl like her walking this 🌎
She said that the rappers and ball players are not role models to her kin folk, but she is the role model in her house she’s the one that feeds clothes and protects her children and grandkids She’s outstanding you are absolutely correct in saying that The world needs more of her and less Kim kardashians
Can't watch this as a black man I grew up in the same neighborhood, I just refused too say in that hood best decision I made. There's a whole world out there.
I was 18 and looking at 4-8 for delivery and manufacturing. I served just under 1 year. That year shaped the rest of my life. Im sober now for just over a year but i have managed to stay out of prison and out here for my wife and kids. I wouldn't judge anyone for their mistakes. I judge based on how people learn from them and grow to be a better human.
I feel bad for the girlfriend with the 2 children. She looks extremely depressed and lost. It looks hard in the US to be a single Mum in poverty a real struggle. I hope things work out for her and her children 🙏 Also the Grandma is a legend and we need more people like this but unfortunately they don't seem to make many people like her no more.
@@auntigingy8666right? I'm not saying everyone who does the right thing needs a pat on the back, I just wish every time I see a good person in a video I didn't hear "there's aren't many good people like that anymore" or something along those lines. It's like man open your eyes. They're everywhere
her story really cut deep. it does seem as if they were born on the 'wrong side of the tracks'.. even if they tried to live straight they wouldn't make it because the situation there, is as you see it. such a painful documentary.
The Grandmother was the best part of this documentary. She's strong and proud even though some family members fell victim to the streets. I hope that she's still alive. Blessings to her always.
I give this mother credit for admitting that her son made his choices and she was helpless to stop him. My problem comes with the parents who blame everyone else for their child’s choices.

We don't really make choices, it's mostly genetics. If you have physically strong people who don't have much in mental capability but also value money above everything, the result is obvious.
@marty mcfly We don't really make choices as such. Everything you have done in your life is the product of genetics and environment. It's not really a debate but a fact of life. No, in US the police don't run the drug dealing. It's not the 3rd world.
How that grandmother has kept her loving and decent heart in this brutal inhuman world of ours is beyond me. She is an exemplary person, wide awake to life's tragedies & pain yet able to survive with her spirit intact. Bless her. May she have a long & happy life watching her grandbabies thrive & follow in her extraordinary footsteps.
She is actually the heart in this story, a beautiful example of unconditional love. Her actions showed how much she believed in family. She is definitely the woman that Jesus described in Proverbs. Her family is very blessed to have her!!
As a former addict, I can relate to most of this video!! I thank God every single day I got out alive 11 years ago!! 🙏🏽🙌🏽👊🏽💪🏽 Only a person that has walked in the shoes of an addict or a dealer/trafficker, can really understand the power of the drugs and the money!! When it gets you in it's grip.. It's nearly impossible to break those chains ⛓️😔 But I'm here to tell you it can be done, and I'm living proof of that!! I'll be 59 on March 11th and my testimony would blow your mind!! Truly a miracle that I'm still here🙏🏽 My heart and prayers go out to every single person trapped in this very dark place, including the families, because they are affected more than most people even realize!!🙏🏽💔 God bless and NEVER GIVE UP HOPE..🙏🏽🙏🏽🙌🏽👑💪🏽💪🏽
I totally understand I put myself in some terribly dangerous situations and did things I would have never done if not addicted. But I've forgiven myself and I've been clean for 25yrs.... I too am lucky to be alive...Blessings to you ❤️
His grandmother is part of the greatest generation we ever had. Most of us black men and women who are between the ages of 52 and 35 were raised by these great men and women. Salute, it will never be the same.

This is exactly why i lived in places where we all lived in a studio apt but in a good school district. We had no money, less than $20/day for 3 kids and myself to live on. We walked everyplace. Sometimes we collected cans to eat, washed clothes in the bathtub, my kids started working at 14 and 16. For Christmas and birthdays my kids got clothes/books, not bikes, not toys (maybe small ones), no electronic equipment because I was paying rent in a better neighborhood. I was not going to raise my children in a poverty stricten school district with over stressed teachers. And my sons were not going to jail for selling drugs- of that I was determined! And now they are grown with jobs and families. It was rough. But they stayed out of jail, they are healthy, happy. Sometimes the difference is moving a couple of miles away or a little farther, sometimes it's giving up a lot of clothes, toys, fancy stuff. Which is more important.
@@maryhadley7373 I didn't make the post to sound better than, the video brought back memories of years of sacrifice on the part of my kids and myself. I just remember being determined that we would survive walking in rain, cold, carrying heavy bags of groceries (or even at times daily shopping), because we were absolutely not going to make that slide into the drug life. I don't want to go into details. We were one of the lucky ones. Not everyone can make the jump.
What you did took a lot of strength and discipline. You should find a way to share your recipe for success with mothers who don't have your common sense and moral compass. I think you have a lot to offer...
@@101st_AB please, no. I was an addict for 30 years as well. We had a huge conflict, no one knew I was an addict. I had been raped at 12, 14 so turned to drugs to cope. I became incredibly suicidal as I grew older, how could I teach my children morality yet be so dependant on speed etc to exist, to work? My son saved my life. He called the police on me. I love him, it took such strength and love for him to do that. I've now been clean for 27years. I'm not perfect. I always put things in anonymously as i don't want to bring heartache to anyone. I probably should not have done so if it have you the idea that I'm a "good" person. 💖 Much love.
I liked how he admits when he was selling the drugs and being gangsta he wasn't being himself, he was being what people around him expecting him to be and living up to it. Thats how it is with alot of them.
Nah, that's just the bullshit excuses they make when they get caught. Judge them by their actions, not their words. He was out there, devastating a community, selling heroin and crack, enforcing his rule with the bullet. Scumbag's gonna scumbag. They deserve their time. Also, their families deserve no sympathy either. If they'd raised their kids right, they wouldn't be where they are now. They want locking up as well.
"MOM, I know what your doing, if you go down I'm gonna go crashing down with you" That statement brought me to tears like thousands of others in this comment section for various reasons...I was raised by my grandparents because of a drug addicted mother. So I also know disfunction. My grandparents were so strict on me because of her but they didn't have to worry I never tried drugs a day of my life. Even to this day to include Marijuana. I have done so many positive things in my life that I cannot mention, but I have 3 degrees, served my country, traveled around the world AND most recently am a cancer survivor. My husband said I am like superwoman. Nope, not at all. I knew dysfunction growing up, and I was determined to leave it all in my rear view mirror by not continuing the mess. I raised my children with no dysfunction or craziness and was a damn good parent to my children which I am glad for...to you all who are still suffering from addiction those tentacles are long and far reaching please seek help. If not for yourself do it for your family which will ultimately help you too in the long run...🙏🏾
I am sure your grandparents are very, very proud of you. 👏👏👏👏👏👏. You have really accomplished so much in your life. And you have time to accomplish so much more. Keep going, don't ever get comfortable with where you are in life. Keep making moves.
Moved away from Chicago 8 years ago. Brought myself and my fiance to Virginia he was charged at 13 with a very harsh lifelong charge and was picked on and bullied by the police there. The problem with the system is horrible and moving out saved us. I'm preying for all those who have been put in a system of poverty and homelessness and I like many others just want to be left alone in peace. A shack in the woods all alone sounds perfect for us and I bet many others who felt Trapped and punished by judgement because we lived in poor neighborhoods or ended up unable to affordable lawyers or someone who cares enough for others to help prove innocence. I dont understand why our government continues to take from its people without helping so many. We are not our government but we recieved punishment for our governments behaviors and face judgments when so many people here lost rights to vote, go to college and work. How do we have a say. How can we be herd, how do we protect ourselves from our government. Food stamps and health insurance are not a fair trade for our freedoms.
My younger brother was murdered so that he couldn't testify for my oldest brother.. this was around 2006/2007.. My oldest brother was given 4 life sentences which he could've avoided if only he had spoken up... The tears in my eyes as I sat there and heard him say you may as well just handcuff me because I'm not snitching... He should've been here. I have sickle cell disease. If anything I needed him. If I hadn't come out of that 5 day coma he would be filled with guilt & regret. Despite all of that I'm in school for medical billing & coding which I have 2 courses left on but I have degrees prior to what I'm studying now plus I work for doordash. It sucks... I basically lost 2 brothers because I'll never see either one of them again.
I work in a health care clinic inside of a low income hud high rise. The devastation, fear, and lack of opportunities and education for families is heart breaking. Gun fire is common. Kids with rotten teeth and already pre-diabetic, walking by bodies cause the EMS system is slow to respond. Great grandparents raising children. I asked one of the mid-level dealers why not take care of yourself and be more cautious. He said look around, how many guys over 30 do you see? I am already gonna die in the streets or be in prison. He was right. So many children caught up in this.
The ironic part is that they just don't see these men, they exist, they are at work, mostly. Certainly not in a traphouse or housing project or on a corner
YOUNG CATS PEEP THIS: (society): "why do you deal drugs?" (drug dealer): "because there's nothing out there for me, I gotta get my hustle on because that's all I know what to do"...drug dealer gets 35 yrs in prison, reads basic books, advances to law library, becomes the most intelligent person he's ever been, versed in criminal law, court procedures, etc., gets released 15 yrs later - no one wants to hire him, resorts back to hustlin'. "It takes 6-8 pallbearers to lift you up when you are deceased...Imagine what you can accomplish if you had 6-8 people lifting you up while you are living"... -anonymous
When I saw “young cats peep this” why do you deal drugs? I was expecting a different message, I was ready to reply differently as well bc it’s so hard for young men. Great message or comment.
Not to mention if you think about it selling drugs doesn't even make that much money, hear me out. Lets say in 1 year you make $300k (im not a drug dealer so I don't know how much they make), then you get caught, as drug dealers always do. Now you serve 10-40 years depending on what you did to get that money, so 300,000 ÷ 10 = $30,000/year on the lower end of your sentence and 300,000 ÷ 40 = $7500/year on the higher end sentence. The first option is LESS than a $15/hr job, the second is about 4$ less than minimum wage (minimum wage is $7.50). That is not even mentioning the fact that if the government suspects you of dealing drugs then they can freeze your account and seize your funds meaning you went to prison for 10 years for LITERALLY NOTHING. Crime does not pay. Now, when you get out of prison you cannot get a normal job and are 10+ years older with no friends or family, you have nothing left. Why even be alive if you're going to sell drugs?
You might say "Well, I wont get caught", but that's what everyone who gets caught says. You are no Pablo Escobar, and if you are selling drugs to make ends meet you probably are not very educated meaning the likelihood of you getting caught is EXTREMELY high. Don't play yourself.
what the son said at the end broke my heart. the pure innocence of not knowing the severity of his fathers jail time. "HE ONLY GOT WHAT, THIRTY YEARS LEFT?" To all of my fellow black men, let us break these generational curses, and call on god in time of despair - AMEN
52:19 almost made me cry as a grown man. I did 4½ years in the Texas department of corrections. My son was only 2 when I got locked up. When I got out my son died 11 months later. He died from an asthma attack in Des. Moines, Iowa. I will never get to kick it with him again. That is why that scene brought tears to my eyes.
Its so true how the grandma says he keeps talking about his ‘friends’ and she says ‘you aint got no friends out here, its a money thing.’.. She really reminds me of my own grandma
She said "I'm the role model in this house. You gotta stand up and be that role model" this old lady deserves the world. Props to her for working hard and always trying to do right by her family. Shes right, that's what a real role model should be. Always family over everything
@Chelt Munt the grandmother of one guy was the one with the "role model" speech... she wasn't "THE informant" who snitched to save herself n family.. but yeah good words to strive to live for

"I am the role model in my house. Thats what you should do stand up, mother and father, and be the role model in your house." Very wise words indeed. Grandma Williams is an inspiration. If only ever family was lucky enough to have someone like her
“He only got 30 years left granny” is something a child should never have to say, I’ve had to deal with the same thing multiple times no kid or family member deserves this
Children don't comprehend the time involved in 30 years. Meanwhile, the most important change needed, in my view, is a massive upgrade of schools (structures, teachers, curriculum, discipline, expectations) in low-income areas. The problem is how to do that. Democrat states don't want to banish teachers' unions that are a bane on education. As more and more people in these liberal, low-income areas depend on government, the tax base for improved schooling dwindles. We need innovative leaders who don't kowtow to liberal victim excuses and who prioritize and follow through on programs to increase the economies and tax bases of these low-income areas.
the sad truth is letting these guys out is a risk to those around them: and quite possibly to innocent people who get caught in the crossfire. If I were a judge, I don't think I could ever trust them fully to not do violence. Selling drugs only doesn't bother me as much: both parties are willing ultimately (I want to legalize drugs actually to maybe end a lot of the violence). But if you did violence in part, then I got a problem there. Maybe if they were monitored strictly if released, then ok. But to assume they won't do it again may be a dangerous assumption.

That cop at 41:50 needs to understand that nothing has to go wrong for you to become a drug addict. I don't understand how other people don't understand that. Hard drugs are addictive; all it takes is curiosity to try it and become chemically dependent on them. I feel like a cop should understand that and not be so perplexed about the behavior he's seeing.
You are right. BUT....Studies have shown that the kids that come from broken or dysfunctional homes or have faced some kind of abuse or trauma are more likely to try drugs, alcohol or cigarettes. Kids need positive, secure and stable homes to have the best chance of making good choices. I don't mean perfect parents by any means. They don't exist. Children are heavily influenced by their environment. If they see dad smoking, drinking, cursing, getting high or beating mommy you know the odds are much better that a male child especially, will follow right along. If a single mom of a daughter has multiple boyfriends over, spending the night, guess what she's likely to do before she's 18? That's right! Morality by the parents will almost always dictate the morality of the child!
@@saturn722 Poor kids are easier to bust and go through the 'system' whereas the 'rich' kids stay off the radar and don't have to steal etc to fund their highs. But yeah, hear what your saying.

Brad's grandmother really devoted her life to the kids. What a wonderful and wise person. She did her best but sometimes no matter what the kids go the wrong way. God bless her and her family.
Hearing the perspective of the parents, especially the ones who were once drug addicts were powerful. You might be able to rebuild your own life, but you only have one opportunity to raise your kids... that’s something we don’t think about...
It creates an ongoing cycle of addicts. Breaking the chain when your whole family is addicts is a hard thing to do. You start way younger when everyone around you is doing it.
And too many people abdicate their responsibilities to the State. Schools and after school programs raise their kids and they assume those institutions have their child's best interest in mind. Doesn't matter what neighborhood in what city or state, Schools do not raise your kids to be moral and productive adults. They shuffle your kids through K-12 in order to keep getting their government funding. There is no incentive for them to make sure your child actually grows intellectually and emotionally. They get paid regardless whether the kids can read and comprehend their lessons. As long as the kids can mimic back to them the answers, they're happy. We need to take far more responsibility for our own children.
@@your_belief_vs_everything There are good/great scools all over the country that make great contributions to the overall well being of children. Unfortunately, you don't usually find them in poor and/or inner city schools. As you stated though, it is ultimately the responsibility of the parents. However, many childen lack good parental guidance because their parents can't give them what they never received themselves.
Exactly. I had parents who were addicts and still struggle with resentment towards them. I believe my life was negatively impacted and made more difficult than it should have been because of their decisions. I vowed to stop that cycle right in its tracks!

@vcvortex6356 ... She didn't have anything to do with his decisions. His decisions are just that.. HIS decisions. Don't come on here talking smack about his grandma, she did her job. She can't control the decisions that he makes. He is his own person 💯
It's not your environment; it's how you're raised. People make excuses for everything. Some people use the circumstances as a crutch. Its so important for a kid to have both a mother and father.
Shout out to all the real mothers, fathers, uncles aunties and Grandmothers and other members of the community who put in the hard work to try to help the misguided young ones headed for life in prison. God bless you all and give you strength to persevere. 💜
They say it takes a village. I'm still wondering, when are We gonna build this village? We are failing our youth day in & day out. I'm a Counselor in a youth facility (jail). The fact that the youth have jails & not real life juvenile rehabilitation centers. They want & love that some in our community choices to fail our Babies. WE HAVE TO JOIN HANDS & SURROUND OUR YOUTH. Build a ring around them & make them our center! Our Babies need us now more than ever! There are SO MANY grown boys out here waiting & preying on younger boys. To walk out of their homes, schools, churches, etc. To brain wash them & lead them down a path of nothing. LETS BUILD THIS VILLAGE WE KEEP SPEAKING ON!
The grandmother is an amazing woman! She did her best to be a stable influence on her kids & grandkids. I respect her and pray she has peace in her life. I can't even imagine what these people dealt with on a daily basis. The mothers shown have deep regrets but the first thing they need to do is forgive themselves. Everyone has their own choices to make in life so the decision was theirs. Sad but true.
I just loved the grandmother…..she was strong yet sweet and loving! She loved her family and definitely did the best that she could to raise her kids and grandkids!
Where you think this old lady money come from to take care of multiple houses and people. The most innocent looking people are the most dangerous ones. Come to Detroit you'll see what I mean

Yeah these guys wasn't smart at all. I heard one of those guys tell a customer to send a friend which would be a new customer. In my mind that would be the perfect time to send a undercover police officer in there to buy drugs from them.
The crazy part about this, is that I know a ex DEA officer that's a crack fiend now, like they call themselves getting it off the streets, but sometimes their the main ones that's addicted to drugs they just cover their addictions up until it starts to show on the outside!
This makes me cry. I see it from both sides. The money was fast and easy and helped to take care of their families. But on the other hand, look at all the lives that were destroyed and now these babies don't have fathers. A father is soooo important in a child's life....
Fathers made their choice! Remove the criminal factor and now addicts can get REAL help via medical/counseling etc. in countries where drugs became legal, addiction, overdoses and crime have decreased
@@shockawha9 I read HIV transmission dropped significantly in the countries where they decriminalized narcotics, that's good. I never saw anything on crime rates. This broke my heart. The grandmother is so full of wisdom. She is brilliant. I wish I knew how to help these kids and help them to break the cycle. They are so innocent and need strong male figures to help mold them at such a young age. I pray for all of these families.
I have a million thoughts running through my head and I am having a hard time choosing which to share. But first I will say that I am grateful to see so much love in the comment section. And one thing I will take from this documentary albeit it’s something I have been living myself, is that everyone starts out the same and most of us have families that love us no matter what. And probably just about every drug dealer, every drug addict, every criminal has family or friends that love them no matter what. The sad part is that a lot of us don’t realize that until it’s just too late. Whether someone goes to prison for a month or 40: years, they are going to need love and support so when they do get out, they can do better. And no matter how much hurt and damage they have done, they are going to be let out one day and we need to do everything we can to stop them from hurting anyone else and that means helping them to change while they have nothing but time to grow and heal and become better people.
That video touched my heart man. 2 years sober today by God’s mercy. Prayers out to the victims of our drug epidemic, and their families- in boxes & in cells alike
This is truly a tragedy. I was amazed by the woman who said that her boyfriend had “to do what he had to do to feed his kid” 🤬 How about the kids he killed with his poison, how about the lives he destroyed, including his own? These guys get philosophical in jail. Why can’t they make that transition while they are out on the street. These guys will cause generations of sorrow. There are segments of the black community that are devoid of men, GFs, fathers and sons have died early,(homicide), or languish in prison. What happens to their young sons? I’m not convinced that even he most dedicated mother can raise her son to manhood without his father.
exactly!!! no accountability whatsoever, like l go to work like everyone else! It’s not the only way to live by selling drugs! i totally agree with you! 💪🏽
99% if the drug users have chosen freely to try it out, some get hooked others not. Don’t blame the dealers, most of them are addicts too and they just supply what is requested by clients. I am ex addict, too. Never I would hv blamed a dealer.
@@uncle.d.: I immediately distrust any argument that starts with 99% of…when both the numerator and the denominator are unknowable. I suspect the those who “freely” chose drugs are already damages souls living in chaos and often in poverty. There is a reason drug dealers are called PUSHERS, the should be called sharks, they target the weak and wounded, the vulnerable. I don’t believe that the young woman “giving head” in the stairwell of an abandoned building nor the young man who robs his grandmother Social Security check has chosen freely…just say’n.
I just can't get over the way that woman was beaten while everyone stood by and did nothing. I also don't understand why no one else isn't as enraged as I am

many people dont value women like we do. and for sure people dont value women who associate with men like them. and we know that people dont value black womens lives and joy even though they are as amazing and kind as they are. Having been raised in Detroit in the 50’s , I watched the same attitudes rise in our black neighborhoods. The adults in those neighborhoods, didn’t sit around feeling sorry for themselves, they got jobs and worked hard just like the other immigrant and white neighborhoods. I know we had MAFIA , Gangs, and Drug Dealers. There were pockets of violence but these were small and scattered in the city and suburbs.Unlike most of the major cities of that time we didn’t have the excessive drug, and gang problems. We were surrounded by Chicago, Cleveland OH, and a days drive from NYC. But Detroit was a working class community in most respects. As a teenager I was all over the city safely traversing the city streets. I knew the roughest areas of town and simply stayed out of them. Most of the drug houses were down toward the center of the city in the older neighborhoods where the users lived and tried to take control of the streets and the police just did what they could during their shifts. Ther neighborhoods stayed calm until the fathers starting becoming unemployed and the young men started running the streets and selling Drugs for easy money. This was the beginning of the end for Detroit. As the fathers started abandoning the families to jail cells or their addictions, the young men got further out of control because the mothers couldn’t control them. Our jails in Detroit quickly filled with violent young men mostly from black communities. Looking for an easy money choices. In the 60’s , as welfare families increased and collected in the same area, things in the city degenerated and these families made the decision to live like this until the grand parents finally put their foot down and stopped allowing the youngsters to bring their illegal activities into the home. The advent of the greater welfare state during the Johnson presidency , caused a greater breakdown because to receive benifits , the father had to have abandoned the families. This rule left most adult males in the wind to the families.
I completely agree. The black community in the 40’s 50’s 60’s was very hard working church going conservative values lots of black families were doing very well for themselves buying homes starting families etc but by the 80’s that was pretty much gone the black community sold their hard working church going conservative values out for the democrat welfare dream it’s very sad. The modern day BLM movement is a perfect example they are a so-called black empowerment movement but they have anti fatherhood anti male/female family propaganda in their guidelines it’s totally counterproductive. The BLM party often says that black trans women are the most important people to their party so blm would rather see a black man wearing a dress then raising their children married to a woman working 9-5 going to church on Sunday.
Well put. It’s anyone’s choice what they do. He could have said no and took different path as so many others have done and been successful. People don’t understand is that success DOESNT MEAN LOTS MONEY. SUCCESS IS EHAT EVER YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED. DONT MEAN ALSYS GETTING RICH
You are so right! Johnson’s War on Poverty made everything worse! I’m here to tell you from 40 years as a lobbyist in social services: it’s not money…it is a change in social fabric that will change the cities. Don’t give up your destiny to government. They don’t and can’t have your interests at heart. It’s way more basic than that. Take care of your own with all the fabric in your being!
I don't know if these guys can get a job or not, but there's no excuse for terrorizing the neighborhood, and that's the real measure of what kind of people they are.
I think you can love and have compassion for someone, while still holding them accountable for their behavior. We are seeing the manifested behavior of adults, who were victims of all types of phyical, emotional and psychological abuse as children. They grow up emulating what they have been exposed to all of their lives. This doesn't justify criminal behavior, but we have to discuss the "why" in order to better understand the "what". Much of this drug situation in black neighborhoods has been by "design" in America.
When I worked construction most of the people had been to prison and somewhere even on parole. Those were good paying jobs but you had to work a lot harder than these imbeciles are willing to.

@@blackdogslivesmatter1568 thing is kids get things too easy, I'm nearly 50 and growing up in a big family, all we had was hand me downs, and people were grateful for that.
Such a sad story for EVERYONE involved. The (great) grandmother's wisdom is incredible and so true. It's a shame that human nature tends to ensure we learn the lessons she's sharing the hard way, firsthand.
Montrell’s mother revealed something that’s rarely spoken of - addicted parents having their own children supply their drugs. What else isn’t widely known is that in a number of single mother homes, she knows her son is participating in crime (not necessarily drug-dealing), but she reaps benefits from it, so it’s not addressed. Whether it be money or goods, he’s contributing to the household, and that’s the priority. Mothers with this type of mentality expect their sons to provide for the family and how he does it is of little to no concern. I recently watched a parole hearing of a young man in his 20’s who was almost assured of being released from prison if he completed several courses the Parole Board designated. In order to take the classes, though, he’d have to give up his work release job. When his mother heard she wouldn’t be getting his paycheck anymore, she got upset and the poor guy looked so guilty, like he was letting her down. One of the Board members chastised her that this was about her son’s future, not about her. She then conceded that his release would be good - because he could then help with his younger siblings. Not one word did she say about missing him for him, not one word of praise about how well he’d done to improve and rehabilitate himself.
Thank you for this documentary. I never used ,sold drugs. But society took advantage of my son . I worked my whole life gave my kids my all. But my all wasn't good enough for him . To this day my baby boy says he hates me. But my love for him will never die

Its the same in London. I was never on drugs I moved my 4 kids away from bad places , 1 son got on heroin from a young age, then it went on to crack. Meet a girlfriend while in prison who lived the same life style as him . There still together on drugs of drugs in jail out of jail. Its bought a lot of heart break to me and still does. He's almost 39 and I can't change him. I have to except who he is, I have tried so hard over the years to get him of drugs. Sometimes I think I will get a call or phone call saying he's dead. I used to feel as tho it was my fault, I have never touched drugs I don't even drink . I surpose that lady at the end hit the nail on the head , we all have choices in life some people just make wrong choices . You can only be the best parent you can be . This can happen to anyones kid from rich to poor trust me. 😢
The moral to this whole story is the grandmother. This lady dedicated her life and sacrificed her own youth for all of these children. Most all of them let her down. This isn't her fault. Their failures are not her failures.

Congratulations! Happy you made it and your kids are good!

-anonymous
Motivational structure and discipline led by positive example is something so many people lack!
That is a powerful statement... At the very end... Just imagine indeed...
what the son said at the end broke my heart. the pure innocence of not knowing the severity of his fathers jail time. "HE ONLY GOT WHAT, THIRTY YEARS LEFT?" To all of my fellow black men, let us break these generational curses, and call on god in time of despair - AMEN

So true.

A lot of struggling communities did not take the benefits over the father though. They kept the man in the home and they struggled together as a unit.
You are amazing and so right…may many policies come out of your wisdom🙏
It's been almost 12 years since this was made I really hope these people are still alive and well
I really doubt it, life is full of pain and suffering and I feel like you haven't had enough to make you a better person yet.

I don't know if these guys can get a job or not, but there's no excuse for terrorizing the neighborhood, and that's the real measure of what kind of people they are.
THey, are human beings who have been ridiculed for too long , Give these people a chance , help, love , compassion ,rehab if needed .
@@maureenlang4949 I bet you wouldn’t have that same mindset if you were a victim of this or any other gangs terrorization.
@@maureenlang4949 lost me at domestic violence

She then conceded that his release would be good -
because he could then help with his younger siblings. Not one word did she say about missing him for him, not one word of praise about how well he’d done to improve and rehabilitate himself.
When the girlfriend said no-one ever lived on that house. That should have been 10 red flags

Thank you for this documentary. I never used ,sold drugs. But society took advantage of my son . I worked my whole life gave my kids my all. But my all wasn't good enough for him . To this day my baby boy says he hates me. But my love for him will never die

Sorry you're going through this with your son hope things get better for you both
I'm sorry you're going through this, your not the only mom this happens to and will happen to be strong in God and remain a loving mom and person this can happen to me and I will do the same... . Ase
Needs intervention
I was astonished how wise and strong the grandmother is. Cried buckets to realize it was all for nothing.
Well she was also a single mom so the father of her children are definitely part of the blame
@@amber_Forever16 exactly put some of that blame of the absence of a father figure.
