Was checking out the schedule for this year and saw this game, I was massively appreciative of the first game and had no idea the brilliant mind of Happ had released a sequel. Picked it up immediately and consumed it before the marathon began. Stellar run Seraphin!
If you've never played this game, do yourself a favor and play it. It has very little in common with the first game, though, so if you have played that, try to approach this game with no expectations. Speaking of the first game, you don't need to play it to understand the plot of this one. There's a few connections and nods here and there, but this game is very much so its own thing. Playing it won't ruin the first game if you decide to play that later.
I picked it up with PS plus for this month and loved it. Although there was a glitch with ps5 trophies; it is now fixed. Although now i need 100% items again on a different save for the plat. From that, I bought the first game (which was on sale), and while I did prefer that game by leagues, the second game has a really nice charm to it.

I loved Axiom Verge 2 so much more than the first. It’s due to the heavier focus on exploration than combat, which hit the sweet spot for me.
