Very nice playing, sounds relax just like it should. I tried to learn Maple Leaf Rag but had to give up. My thumb has a mind of its own, that steady beat is a must which I just couldn't master. Thanks for keeping Joplin current, if any music deserves it, his does.
Did you learn all those by ear 😮 or did you have tablature of some sort? I've always wanted to play ragtime guitar and this medley has further resolidified that desire. Amazing video!
Hi there, These were all learnt as a mix of by ear and watching Richard play them on TH-cam and slowing down the video using the 50% function. I learnt the rest of his rags by getting the TABS from his website and the videos which I highly recommend as he does the TABS himself so they are very thorough and accurate. I was very fortunate in that he showed me his arrangement of 'The Cascades' personally a few months back.
@@MerlinSmithWhat an amazing experience! I really admire your talent and hard work. I hope to be able to attain even a fraction of your technical mastery. I'll definitely consider purchasing his tablature to practice. Cheers!
@@MerlinSmithwhere did you meet him for you to show you personally? I’ve just discovered your channel and you are a truly sublime player. It seems like you have improved rapidly over the last year or so
@@Ma_rkw589 I was at a Tommy Emmanuel camp in Nashville where he was one of the instructors. I basically followed him around hassling him the whole weekend to show me the piece as it was the last Joplin arrangement of his I wanted to learn :) Thank you very much, after I started learning the Joplin pieces it definitely opened up a lot more techniques etc. which helped my progress, although I also gave up my job to pursue guitar playing so had much more time to practice.
I'm melting, and it isn the 93° outside
🎉
I can only imagine the amount of playing time you have in it. Wonderful.
Merlin--this is so good, down to the white shirt and vest!
Brilliant!! 👏
Great work !
