    Protip: Some forks are a tight fit for a 20g CO2. I could barely get the tool in-and-out with this configuration. I removed the label and used goo-gone and a scouring pad to remove all adhesive. This allowed for smooth in-and-out action on my 2018 Lyrik. Hope this helps someone using this tool.

    I’ve had mine for a little less than a year and I’ve used it on pretty much every ride I’ve been on. It’s gotten me out of the simplest things like a loose saddle or an annoying brake rub all the way to a pedal that literally fell off mid trail! Just whipped out the tool and continued descending no issue. Best investment I’ve made to date!

      Well, while it is a interesting designed pump, the failure or difficulty to go above 35 psi is a deal breaker for me. I was going to consider this for my touring bike but I need a pump to go to 75 psi for my 700 X 38 tires. I can't see why Oneup couldn't have designed the pump for more PSI capability, kind of short sighted on their part.

      For sure The Lost Co makes some incredible videos! im undecided on the edc personally, we spend huge money to get as light forks as possible and keep out bike weight down, i have no issue with a backpack and think i prefer keeping the weight off my bike.That could be my oldschool mindstate however

  • @MissingLinkMTB

    Gonna cost you a pretty penny to buy the EDC and then everything you need to install it. Nice bit of kit though. I chose to save money and strap a tube with a multi-tool, pump, and tire levers to my bike. Most people already have all that stuff and just need to buy a $10 Granite Rock Strap.

    • @TheLostCo
      @TheLostCo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I agree! Its a little pricey, but definitely a pretty intriguing tool engineered into a super tight package.
      I really like mine because I'm always on the go, and I've got to worry about bringing camera gear, moving tools around the shop and the van, etc. Having the tools in the bike means I can't possibly forget them.

      @@TheLostCo Finding a shop with the tools already would make it more affordable perhaps. Of all the packless fancy tools this one remains my favorite though. From what I've seen its VERY popular among enduro racers too.

      @TheLostCo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@MissingLinkMTB Agreed and agreed! The tap is sort of weird to buy for most people since you'll literally never use it for anything else haha. Racers love it too since its so quick and handy! The fact that I can pull out a tire plug in like 8 seconds is both mine and racer's favorite feature 👍

    • @robnestor3371
      @robnestor3371 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Lost Co. if you buy this, you might as well by the plug for work as well, because when you get a puncture in the tubeless set up, Time is kind of important, having the plugs so handy is really awesome. definitely beats taking off your pack, digging around in the tools, unscrewing the top, and having a small cap as a handle. The EDC tool makes plugging a tire maybe 20 seconds at the most versus 40. I’m buying the EDC tool just so I have that pluging kit a couple seconds away.

    Couple of questions:
    1) What would you do when building a new bike? I don't know yet at what length I want to cut my fork tube. I assume once tapped, you can no longer shorten the fork's tube? Or can you then screw in the tap really far, cut a bit off the tube, and then screw out the tape (and restore the threading)?
    2) With the bacon strap + plug installed, where do you leave your co2 cartridge?

  • @HeatherSpoonheim
    @HeatherSpoonheim 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I was totally stoked about the idea of having hidden tools on my bike - until I realized that I'm always going to have some sort of back pannier when I ride. If nothing else, I always carry some flip-flops in case I need to walk (I use clipless cleats to attach to my pedals, a real pain to walk around in). I also toss in an emergency rain poncho and some toilet paper (if I ever need the TP, I will sure be grateful for the rest of the ride home). So I can just keep my tools, tube, inflation kit, etc, in the same bag.

    I'll stick to my Ospray pack. While this looks neat the strapping a tube to the frame just seems stupid not only does it look ghetto but it just seems like the best way to make sure your tube has a hole in it when you need it, between sand getting in it and rubbing a hole or a crash ripping a hole in it or a branch ripping a hole in it or your knee pads, I could go on forever as to why strapping a bare tube to your frame is stupid.

      @paradox963 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheLostCo You are definitely lucky, the last 3 times I have been out with someone who needed a tube the one strapped to their frame had a hole in it and I had to give them the one in my pack. One had been on the frame for a while and sand had gotten in and worn a hole in it. I do know plenty of people use them without issue and it's the trendy thing to do and if you're riding a bike park your never that far from help so your not in too much trouble if its bad, but why chance it. You would be better off sticking it in an empty water bottle in a cage. Also if your riding where it's wet the tube will get muddy and then your going to have to try to get all that mud and dirt off before installing it or it's going to flat in no time, just seems like an unnecessary risk to take with something you are counting on to get you out of a jam.

    • @seanlarsen8900
      @seanlarsen8900 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your riding buddies need to step up their "strap on" game. I've never had any problems with tubes I've strapped to my bike. In the past I have used a piece of punctured tube to stretch over my new tube as a little protective cover and have paid attention to where it is strapped on my bike. Currently I use a hotlaps Dakine pouch for the tube mounted to the seatube of my Trans. Sentinel. The Oneup tool is rad- I also have the pump setup as I prefer having that on me both due to the waste of CO2's and for versatility. I've been an adopter as soon as I could get rid of swamp back and weight distribution games of backpacks. I think getting the gear on the bike and riding pack free is amazing- but hey- run what ya brung and if what you are doing is working stick with it. I think fear of holes in your tube is not a valid reason to avoid though IMO.

      I had one strapped to the bottom of my road bike saddle for a 7 day tour, after 600 miles, I was cleaning my bike and removed tube to see 2 worn holes in it. Glad I didnt need it. If I was in a race or some kind of weekend trip and needed and extra tube I'd might try strapping a tube, but definitely not for a long term solution

      @seanlarsen8900 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason Bowman were the holes worn due it not being secured tight enough, abrasive securing systems or sediment/gravel from the road off the rear tire? Because all of those can be avoided. For example, backcountry research offers a little protective cover called the “tube tarp” and has a soft-secure wrap system (backcountryresearch.com/) or- a small pouch- like the one I use (www.dakine.com/en-us/bags/backpacks/bike-backpacks/hot-laps-gripper-bike-bag/)- and love- takes care of both your contact points and provides some coverage. Not trying to argue- just saying I really like rolling pack free and perhaps others might also if they find solutions to the legitimate concern the tube may be less reliable in that scenario. I ran this all last season here in Rossland BC riding some fairly rowdy trails 2-4 days a week- as well as all through Oregon and BC on a number of roadtrips and had no issues with a tube being punctured when needed (I think I used about 3 tubes over the season to get me out when tubeless system was compromised).

    Ever have the top cap loosen up on the trail?

    • @TheLostCo
      @TheLostCo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you remove the tool from the steer tube, you sort of twist it just a little bit as you pull up, and I've noticed that if you twist it left (counter-clockwise) everytime you pull the tool out, it might loosen up just a little bit. Not a big deal at all though, as the EDC tool has a tool to tighten the top cap, or it takes 1 second every month or two to tighten the cap with a cassette tool.

    • @TheLostCo
      @TheLostCo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For install, you need to purchase the EDC Tap Kit and EDC Top Cap Kit separate. They do this because many people will be bringing their bike to a shop for installation so then you don't have to spend the extra money if you go that route. And they sell the Top Cap Kit separate because you can choose from different colors!

    • @TheLostCo
      @TheLostCo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep! Simply remove everything if you'd like, push the star nut through the bottom of the steerer tube, and then reinstall a star nut through the top like normal. The threads don't effect anything.

    So the one up stem has that top ring on it. Is that one have threads?

    • @jongroth06
      @jongroth06 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That stem is so you don't have to thread your steerer tube. The stem has the parts needed to preload the bearing, which is what the stem cap along with the star nut accomplish, I think. I was curious about getting this but I'm leaning towards the pump instead, it actually has real use where the kit/stem doesn't add to to use.

    You can store a CO2 on it but what do you do about the CO2 head?

    • @Trinity10iloveyall
      @Trinity10iloveyall 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only keep a spare CO2 cartridge on my one up components EDC tool inside the steerer. The primary CO2 cartridge and head is strapped next to my inner tube on the down tube. The video showed the EDC version but I use a back country mutherload strap.

    • @TheLostCo
      @TheLostCo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the EDC gear strap to keep a tube on the frame, and I'll just keep my C02 head and cartridge bundled with the tube on the frame. This is the most commonly used method of keeping a tune and C02 with you and works really well!

    • @alantaylor6691
      @alantaylor6691 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No way would you want to compromise the carbon like that. You shouldn't use any carbon product that's had the layup compromised in any way, it's not like metal.

    • @ugabrew
      @ugabrew 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The key to your question is whether the carbon fork has a carbon or metal steerer tube. If it was full carbon fork with a carbon steer tube, you should not use this tool since you wouldn't be able to do the tapping procedure shown in the video without damaging the carbon steer tube. But if it has carbon legs with a metal steer tube, I think it would work just fine.

    • @TheLostCo

      I would always recommend at least 1 spacer on top of the stem no matter if you're using the EDC Tool or not, but I'm sure it will work just fine without a spacer on top if you're going for a super clean look!
