It's about a girl who is a Poet but who is physically locked in her body and can only move one finger. The words written at the end are hers. It meant a lot to Gong Linna. The artistry of the set is stunning. Dimashs clothes and muted color scheme with enlarged and somewhat skewed furnishings are symbolic of her world. The song is beautifully constructed and sung. Perfect duo here. Of course Dimash always brings that deeper quality. I really loved these duets. Thank you for your reaction. And as always astute observations.
Рики, спасибо за прекраснейший дуэт!!!Какой красивый голос у китайской певицы! Она само очарование. Димаш как всегда на высоте! И рэп удивительно дополняет песню и вносит разнообразие. Спасибо!❤️💕
great reaction. I was going to tell you the story to the song, but I saw that others already did. This is my favorite of the duos in that particular show (the two with Xuang and this one). I love the others too, but this one just was more beautiful to me and I also loved Dimash vocals in this just a bit more-though I can't complain about his vocals in the others too 😄.
This emotional song is called “Become a Poet”. By the way Gong Linna never rapped before. This song was written for people with rare diseases and was awarded as the Best Song of the Year. It is dedicated to the Chinese girl Jenny Bao, who could only move one finger when she was born. Doctors only gave her a life expectancy of 4 years. She is now 20 years old and, among other things, writes poems using only the fingers that she was now able to move. Jenny Bao speaks the last spoken part of the song herself with the help of a kind of speech computer. I hope I told everything correctly. This song give you goosebumps. It's so awesome. Greetings and love from German👋❤️
As far as I understand, Gong Linna hadn’t rapped before - she originally sang this with a young girl rapper, who did that part! On this programme, Dimash had limited time to learn the Mandarin lyrics (he still has to learn them phonetically) and it would have been too much to expect him to rap in Mandarin as well - especially as he’s only rapped in Kazakh before …
Dimash’s rich tones in this song melt my heart. Linna does a great job with the rap segment even though she had never rapped before. Their voices are great together, blending beautifully. Yes, this is AWESOME. I’m moved to tears by this duet. I’m really happy that you enjoyed it.❤🎉❤ Linna and Dimash both speak twice in English later in this video. Their words are very moving. Right after you stopped it Linna is in tears and Dimash puts his arm around her to support her while she speaks about the song and about Jenny Bao’s physical condition. Dimash then speaks in English about how important it is for artists to address important social issues in their performances.
Gong Linna is a famous Chinese singer, and in this song the theme is a young quadriplegic Chinese woman who only moved one finger and wrote poems with that finger! At the end of the song, an excerpt from a poem by this young woman is recited!
‘BECOME A POET’ Gong Linna & Dimash Qudaibergen Music & Lyrics: Ingrita Yu Zhen Rarely, but just occasionally, you will hear a performance that when it finishes you can hear a ‘pin drop’, before the applause, as the audience tries to assimilate what they have just heard and how it has made them feel as they are so deeply moved ... this song is one of those! The story behind the song: The song is about a girl named JENNY BAO who was born with a rare spinal muscular (SMA) disease. Doctors gave her four years to live. She permanently needs a respirator to enable her to breathe and the only part of her body that she can move independently is her right thumb. Poetry became her life and her way of expressing herself even though each poem is painstakingly achieved. She is now in her early twenties and has published her collection of poetry. Some innovative doctors offered their help and she was given new treatment that now allows her to sit in a wheelchair so she is no longer confined to bed. This song and story brings attention to the rare disease community. As Dimash said at the time: ‘Sometimes, we as artists, need to do something for humanity so people understand more about life. If somebody needs our help we need to do something like this performance. A lot of people in China and around the world now know about this story’. ‘Become a Poet’ - translated English lyrics The afternoon sun spills gently across her desk Warm and bright through the window’s embrace A blank page lies awaiting her pen To capture the essence of growth, of dreams Or perhaps just a fleeting Thought of a mischievous cat In her poems, she writes about freedom Of twenty years of fleeting abundance Of roses in bloom Their beauty lingering even though withering Every breath, a labour, yet filled with purpose Become a poet For the soul of a poet is eternal As free and natural as a breath of air To live within verses Where misfortune is not a curse But inspiration Become a poet My soul too will live forever My breath flows free and unburdened I am no longer just myself But perhaps a burst of fireworks or a distant star RAP: If fate plays its cruel games And death’s shadow lingers close The spine that should support you falters Machines surround you, once mere furniture, now vital Coldness creeps into the bones like ice Threatening to mar the beauty of every word Testing, provoking - how deep is your will to live? Will you surrender, compromise or lose heart? Or will you fight with every ounce of your might To escape death’s cold kiss? Fear may seem more honest than courage, But this is her life, a battle she won’t concede Even when tricked, and the body is trapped She refuses to let fate claim victory Keep fighting, keep blooming For this is how you become a poet In her poems she writes about freedom Of twenty years of fleeting abundance Of roses in bloom, Their beauty lingering even though withering Every breath, a labour, yet filled with purpose Become a poet The soul of a poet is eternal As free and natural as a breath of air To live within verses Where misfortune is not a curse But inspiration Become a poet My soul, too, will live forever My breath flows free and unburdened I am no longer just myself But perhaps a burst of fireworks Or a distant star Jenny Bao reads her own poetry that appears on the wall You will see me in the heat of passion In the transparency of tears You will see me in this moment You will see my heart Like an unknown star Flickering alone, light years away ... Flickering
Thank you. This duet is fantastic. The true story is about a girl with a rare disease that leaves her unable to move anything except 1 finger. She was not expected to live long and she has lived to her early 20's. She has become a poet and the poetry at the end is hers and I believe it is her voice. This is the poem: 'You will see me in the transparent tears, You will see me in this moment, You will see my heart like an unknown star blinking alone light years away"
💖Dang, that look man! Loving the look and ever more relaxed confident vibe. Great, expressive body language that speaks richly with minimal words. But yeah, this song is super emotional, as you got without knowing what the lyrics were, why the rap intensity. I've heard this performance dozens of times and am confident I will love it for the rest of my life, just as I do most performances with Dimash in them. 🎼✅ Peace and love from the UK. 🕊
Great reaction, Rick. This is very emotional for both Ms Gong and Dimash. Ms Gong had sang this song with a young Chinese female rapper where the rapper took in the rap portion of the song. This time because the duet is with Dimash, so she took on the Chinese rap for the first time. She did a powerful rendition of it. 👏 Dimash’s voice perfectly matching the changing mood of the song. Soft in the beginning and then powerful towards the end when his high belt sounded almost like the cry of the young lady in the story. Back story is the poet is a real person, Jenny Bao who was born with a rare degenerative disease and can only move 1 finger. Doctor gave her parents only 4 years of life, but she is now 21 years old. She had to breathe with a ventilator. Each breath is a fight to stay alive. “Yon Li Hu Xi” means breathing hard in Chinese. The voice reading the poem at the end was Jenny’s voice. Ms Gong and Dinash felt compelled to perform this song and call to attention of this rare disease. Dimash said in a short interview that he felt as art man, he felt that he needs to do this to help. Biggest hugs to Dimash and Ms Gong. 😊❤
In China the surname is sai first and name last so she is Linna Gong. The poet is on a breathing machine and cannot move. She was only given 4 yrs to live when born but is 21 already. S
The man sitting in the background is Tengri. He and Dimash sang a duet years ago called Swan Goose. It is an amazing collaboration too. It doesn’t matter who Dimash sings with, he adjusts his voice to suit,
Honestly who care about diana..And I'm very tired of some russian fanatics of diana that use the reactions about Dimash to publicize/advertise diana that is globally unknown and nonentity..The Boss King Angel And The Living Legend Dimash

The last sentences were spoken by the poet herself. The whole song is her poet and put to music by Linna.

‘Become a Poet’ - translated English lyrics
The afternoon sun spills gently across her desk
Warm and bright through the window’s embrace
A blank page lies awaiting her pen
To capture the essence of growth, of dreams
Or perhaps just a fleeting
Thought of a mischievous cat
In her poems, she writes about freedom
Of twenty years of fleeting abundance
Of roses in bloom
Their beauty lingering even though withering
Every breath, a labour, yet filled with purpose
Become a poet
For the soul of a poet is eternal
As free and natural as a breath of air
To live within verses
Where misfortune is not a curse
But inspiration
Become a poet
My soul too will live forever
My breath flows free and unburdened
I am no longer just myself
But perhaps a burst of fireworks or a distant star
RAP: If fate plays its cruel games
And death’s shadow lingers close
The spine that should support you falters
Machines surround you, once mere furniture, now vital
Coldness creeps into the bones like ice
Threatening to mar the beauty of every word
Testing, provoking - how deep is your will to live?
Will you surrender, compromise or lose heart?
Or will you fight with every ounce of your might
To escape death’s cold kiss?
Fear may seem more honest than courage,
But this is her life, a battle she won’t concede
Even when tricked, and the body is trapped
She refuses to let fate claim victory
Keep fighting, keep blooming
For this is how you become a poet
In her poems she writes about freedom
Of twenty years of fleeting abundance
Of roses in bloom,
Their beauty lingering even though withering
Every breath, a labour, yet filled with purpose
Become a poet
The soul of a poet is eternal
As free and natural as a breath of air
To live within verses
Where misfortune is not a curse
But inspiration
Become a poet
My soul, too, will live forever
My breath flows free and unburdened
I am no longer just myself
But perhaps a burst of fireworks
Or a distant star
Jenny Bao reads her own poetry that appears on the wall
You will see me in the heat of passion
In the transparency of tears
You will see me in this moment
You will see my heart
Like an unknown star
Flickering alone, light years away ...
Flickering
