I am strictly with the fact that anything you say will be used against you, it is better to stay private and don't let your coworkers on your social media knowing what to do on your personal life and don't overshare things, do your job, have a friendly limited conversations with your people and that's it
My new boss calls me into her office to gossip (which I don't like or do) for like 30 mins every day and ends the conversation with, "Anyway, you need to get back to work and stop taking up so much of my time." leaving in a few months so whatever
Ugh……. Chris, you are correct in what you say. In our department we had the project engineers that never worked in the field and the field personnel who actually worked with the contractors. I guess the worst thing I ever said to my department head when he asked me will this project be done in three months? I said I think you are looking through rose colored glasses. All in all, we had a great department. I don’t think any of the petty stuff that you mentioned ever existed in our department. Our department head was great. We would only go to him if we couldn’t resolve the problem ourselves. We also worked in let’s say the more interesting parts of Philadelphia.
Over the years I've seen people do these types of things in larger group meetings as well... also the kiss of death. In a lot of larger companies, wage administration is done via a group ranking process, so these people have not only hung their boss out to dry, but also the other managers that probably have influence on their pay, ranking, and perceived value.
Dealing with this now. It's harder when you work in a warehouse because your seen as part of 1 person in your group your not seen as an individual. Not sure why my boss lies and says things that are not true. It's ok for bosses to lie but screw the rest of us. We are all replaceable sheep but they can do whatever they like 100 complaints on them and nothing done. I'm so sick of companies b's. Fing hypocrite life.
Or vise verse I’ve had bosses tell me wacko insane inappropriate personal things that’ll make you cringe. That’s why now as a manager I don’t share or say anything other that how was your weekend, how’s the weather what’s good on tv etc.
People need to stop using the word "Evaluation." You can't assign a "value" to human beings, because they are not a commodity. Use "Performance Review" or better yet, "Performance Appraisal". Using negative language for this just generates fear and distrust in your employees.
what should an employee do if the boss confidentially trashes/criticizes coworkers? and we are allowed to refer to bosses collectively as "management pukes" right?
Bro its not the problem you cant tell Cuz its not A fight just you know. When it Comes to staff than you need to respect the job your doing like you cant say to teacher or boss like HEEYYY I LOVE YOU thats not respect. People suposed to say. Respect your job and nothing
It's never the boss's fault. Remember, they, "I never told you to do that" even when you have the email to forward back to them/everyone involved. 😆 WELL...
Good advise. Of course, sometimes no matter what you do is bad. I got on my last boss' bad side for "defending people" too much. She was constantly putting colleagues down, both to their face and behind their back and then asked me dumb questions like: "What do you have to say about that?" I then tried to point out positive things about those colleagues, whether they were in the room or not, not because I'm such a nice guy, but because what else can you do in such a situation? The result was that I was told I'm full of s*** and I'm always taking everyone's side but my boss' and I should keep in mind who pays me and stuff like that. Against my will she had turned me into her right-hand-guy and constantly involved me into stuff that had nothing to do with my job. I had no problem with that as long as it was professional tasks and real work that had to be done, but standing next to her and "supporting her" while she yelled at someone like a deranged psycho, is not who I am. At some point I had enough and told her it isn't my fault that she keeps hiring people she's not happy with. Not a useful anecdote or example for people working in proper, professional work environments with mentally sane adults, of course, but perhaps someone who subscribes to a channel like this does so searching for advise how to deal with really, really bad bosses and colleagues.
@@OfficeSurvivalGuide Yes. She wanted me to spy on colleagues too. It was nuts. A ridiculously unprofessional and weird work environment. You could hardly call that company an actual company. It was more like we all were the boss' personal assistants and servants, who just happened to also do business with customers and all that on the side. hehehe She actually had me cancel business meetings with customers, so I could drive her mother to the dentist, or go to IKEA and buy furniture for her private home and stuff like that. It was ridiculous and I constantly got embarrassed in front of customers, or had to lie to people. The best thing was always when she would set up an appointment with someone, then half an hour before, decided she doesn't feel like going to that appointment or didn't feel like meeting those people in her office and rather went shopping and ordered me to deal with those people without even telling me who they were and what the meeting was about. That was fun. I think she is a genuine psychopath and I don't use that word as an insult in this case, but I mean it literally. I did a little, superficial research into what psychopaths actually are and it isn't what most people think. Most people have this Hannibal Lecter cliché in mind, of this high IQ criminal mastermind, who is murdering people due to some demonic lust, or something like that. In reality, most psychopaths are below average IQ and the main criteria or feature that makes a psychopath is a reduced ability to anticipate negative consequences to their actions. With other words, psychopaths are pathological optimists. They are more likely to harm and kill others, but not because they are more blood thirsty, but simply because they think they will get away with it and see no reason not to do evil stuff. That is also why psychopaths, despite their usual low IQs, tend to be over represented in leading business positions and entrepreneurship. They say "yes" where others say "no" or "maybe". They aren't plagued and held back by doubt and worry. That ex boss of mine fit that description perfectly. She was really dumb and ignorant. Believe it or not, but in her 50s, after founding and running 5 or 6 companies, she still had problems distinguishing between the letters Y and J and often mixed them up and she constantly used words wrongly. But she was a wily, street smart, crude wheeler and dealer and she had been a self made millionaire at the age of 19. She also had that dogged determination and childish stubbornness that won't accept a "No" for an answer and will do anything to get what she wants, which you sometimes find with low IQ people. Her tendency to always hire the wrong people and even re-hire people she had fired before, is explicable with that psychotic optimism I mentioned. But that wasn't all. There was other really deranged behavior besides her yelling and bullying. She was quite literally shameless. There were several instances where a colleague and me had to fetch her from her home and she was walking around naked in front of us. And just to give a complete picture: no, she was not attractive at all. She looked like Honey Boo Boo's mother. Not that that was relevant. Those situations would have been crazy uncomfortable even if she would have been good looking, of course. She even laughed at me when I was embarrassed and turned my back on her while giving her "the morning report". She generally was nasty, unhygienic and would store money in her bra and stuff like that. Really, I constantly had to think of Jabba The Hutt in that office and I was supposed to be that guy with the tentacles on his head who is standing behind Jabba with a slimy grin on his face while the boss feeds people to the cave monster under the palace, hehehe. That wasn't what I had signed up for. Now I have to laugh about how literally crazy and demented all that was, but back then it wasn't funny.

That is the perfect and only strategy.

Thanks for the video. I realize I did several points to my boss who is also my friend and now we are in a weird situation. I took my lessons already

The kiss of death for sure!

Really appreciate this video, thank you!
My boss gossiped a lot when I first started the job
Very good tips
Thanks Grandpa!
Great video Chris.
I've seen my boss do these things, can you please make a video on how to deal with that..?
That's a tough one... I'll think about how to address that in a future video
In other words, mincing words and walking on shells😂
Spot on! 2:14

Awesome video Chris. Your Panda Bear has an attitude problem. Please put in the Endscreen Icon for next video.
Thanks for the note about the end screen!

Hah! I clearly need to do a video on "How to deal with a bad boss" :)
What about not working for some selfish people and be the boss of your self instead of being a programmed slave?
Hey! You look like that guy from Yellow Productions!!! 😉 Great tips.
I bet I do! Thanks Alex! :)
Also I want to add, don't say something that brings you in a bad position like: i overslept.
Brilliant video
My boss tells me she couldn't come into work cuz she drank to much the night b4 wtf lol
Hah. Interesting workplace :)

Never say after a mistake…. It won’t happen again. Ok what to do when it does?
Is someone getting murdered behind the camera? Everybody yelling
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Good advise.

Wow... that's a difficult situation for sure! Particularly being the "Hatchet Man" for a deranged psycho
