Back in the 70's my boss used to come to work every morning and always had a huge pike in the shop bathtub! I was a great pike fisherman but couldn't understand how an old man who had no fishing rod or even a single lure caught these 15 to 25 lb pikes every day??? Well after a couple of months he showed me a spear gun which I never seen before and said he could practically choose his pike since they didn't fear him at the bottom of a lake full of them
Actually he needs to stop moving around up there that pike has a lateral line that senses every movement for yards away and notices the hole in ice which makes him hungry but not stupid!!
We fish the same way except that I don't release as the end state is to eat and not impale fish mouths - purpose. You can lessen your perceived frustration during minnow bites by setting the hook instantly as after bite as long as one hook is no longer visible. With a firm set you'll hook the pike upon immediate bite 99% of the time. Don't approach the hook setting as one generally does during tip-up fishing. This technique is an entertaining and filling way to fish, evening though I don't find catch and release entertaining, but unnecessary. You can buy an electric chainsaw and fill it with a thick edible oil for lube to cut that hole much faster. Drilling 10-12 holes is lost time on ice. 2 person flip over setups have sufficient space and are a faster than a hub, while not susceptible to wind strike like a hub even when anchored, because you are sitting in the sled of a flip over. These are lessons learned from experience but understand it all costs money. Good luck.
Awesome video!
What lake you in Youngblood?
I pity the foo
This is EPIC!
Here before you start catching whales and swordfish
Why’d you go do that Youngblood?
Try Lake Sturgeon in WI. 2012 State Record was 212#, 82"

Why not pull the artificial so he just has the live minnow to concentrate on ?
They just weren't hungry.
Отличная рыбалка !
Too much hardware on that sucker minnow, Delete one of the hooks and use a bit smaller hook
I don't know much about fishing but that beast is sexy!!
Based on the structure of the lake I can tell you where this is at. If you'd like to collab let me know. Nice vid bud!
When you catch a pike that anemic, give him a sandwich and let him go.
Would’ve subbed, but you need better lighting!
😈

No, you don't need better lighting, but you can cut the sound effects. Your commentary is entertaining - sufficient.
