How would anyone be able to change them anyways right?! It's a unique sound... and the production value just keeps getting better and better. Fucking love these guys with a passion!
Nick Kapp Well I know they tune pretty low for their songs, so I'll just strive for his technique instead of tuning my guitar to sound like a foghorn. :P
Who gives a damn how he achieved the sound he did. This masterpiece is incredible. Groovy Heavy Breakdowns. Fantastic Tone Work. He plays it live, and he is emulating the play work here. I gotta say I almost prefer hearing it without lyrics now. I can hear them silently screamed in my head as I watch this video over and over again.
No disrespect to Tim, his vocals are on par, and always crush, but I wish this band would release an instrumental album like Periphery did. The music is absolutely gorgeous. League of their own type shit.
Exactly how I got into metal in the first place... Pull Harder by Trivium, back when I only ever listened to punk rock/punk pop in like, 2003/2004,, was the first song where I was so amazed by the guitars that I just ignored the vocals. Now I listen to stuff heavier than that ever was xD
Funny that I happen to watch this video/see this comment years later, but did you see that they just recently released a 3-album instrumental for Elite, Phenomena, an Halfway Human? So good.
I'm actually interested in how the vocals are going to be for this song... Because this doesn't sound like the preview for Ataxia III and idk of there being another instrumental in the album. Like that part from 3:15-4:50 should be really cool vocally
I opened for these guys back in 2014. They were so humble. They was headbanging and rocking out to our set. They came up to us after our set, and congratulated us and complimented our sound. I will forever respect these guys until given a reason not to.
Joe, you're a phenomenal fucking musician and an inspiration to up and comers. Just became a WTR fan 2 or 3 months ago and you guys have quickly become my new favorite band. Keep jamming man!! \m/
goddamn it the intro riff is one of my fav riffs of all time, i mean, theres a TON from you Joe, but this one is just so killer, much groove, I love it
It's all Axe Fx 2, staccato effects are happening in sync with the song because his daw is sending patch and effect changes through midi. He probably has a click track going on in the background so changes are seamless
Damn people's comments are so f*cking dumb and ignorant is crazy. This is a play through, so of course it's going to be not direct and live. This is an audio of the official track. The only thing that is live is the camera and his playing. The sound and effects are perfect because it's running through Axe FX. And lastly Good Fight Records is going to dump the production of Within the Ruins because it's their most popular band. Besides fuck all these hate comments because regardless of "electronic/midi" sounds Joe Cocchi's play style and technique is still flawless without the perks bestowed infront of him. WITHIN THE RUINS IN THE FUTURE.
Well you still can have backing tracks coming right out of the amp with the same preset, that proves nothing, he might be tight live but this sounds heavily edited and robotic
LoganCovers91 What modern recorded isn't heavily edited though? You're not going to put in all the effort to write/record a song, and then have it not be the best sounding product possible. If you want a more raw sound, then that's what going to shows is for. And the only thing you'd have back tracked are the parts that aren't performed on the guitar, like the synth part at 1:!5 for instance, and it would be coming out of the monitors, not his amp.
@@LoganCovers91 he's fucking awesome live! also I'm pretty sure it's called a recorded loop, hit the pedal, record, and Bam! now hit it later to repeat and layer live. I'm not an expert so don't tear me a new one. Pretty sure he does that with some parts, but I definitely saw animals as leaders do it and then he played over it with the lead riffs. Some people do it live or pre record and it replaces the need for a touring guitarist. Stop hating and just enjoy man. Not everyone has 4 arms and twenty fingers to do it all themselves. Haha 😎
Man I just came across these guys and fuck yes man. Prolly my new fav I love phenomenon that album is sick. I havent heard a song I dont like yet tho so lol
It's cool cause the tone reminds me anup sastry' s bloom album. Hell even rhythmically it's got that feel. Argued with someone the other day that there's a lot of Industrial influence in progressive metal...kinda random statement lol
Bro they remind me of divine intervention and a little bit of fast fear factory dude I love it pr a rings of Saturn that kept thier groove lol. No disrespect to rings but they loose the groove after 9000 beats a mili second.
I thought this was in drop G until I noticed he was playing on the 2nd string. It seems to be in D standard, but an octave lower. I've never seen that before. Crazy shit
Michael Montijo No, it's D standard. Just use a tuner or a fixed-pitch instrument like a keyboard and you'll hear that the lowest string is D and the 2nd is G. Also, the tuning you spelled out is C standard, not drop C.
Oh I didn't even notice at the beginning. I assumed the G/D were open strings by the sound but now I realized he's actually playing on the 2nd fret every time there's a chug, which is why the tuning sounds a whole step higher than it actually is. That is even more insane than I originally thought. It's not even C standard, it's basically drop C except with the second string also dropped
+AbsoluteZ3R0 Yeah it is it's awesome! I have an 8 string and my strings sound so floppy even when I try to do the 8 string equivalent of this tuning lmao
I like how Joe uses the 7 string. WTR were heavy as tits on 6 strings and he doesnt use the 7 as a crutch like a lot of bands that switch over. Just uses is for extra oomph. And he didnt mess with his tone, like some bands do when they go to seven, none of that garbage djenty tone
Having more range with less strings means less you need to stretch more for the same playability. I personally don't like moving between 6 or 7 frets in a scale on a single string before moving to the next. I'd rather use 4 or 5 on a bunch of strings. EDIT: These are also extended scale guitars, probably a 27 inch he's using. Do you know how hard a scale run would be on a guitar tuned like a 9 in a whole chord tuning?
Most of them use no more range than Joe was in this video. For a select few, an 8 makes sense. And a 9 for even fewer. Look at the number of bands who were doing more technical stuff with less strings. Glass Cloud went to shit after Josh began using 9 strings. He was his most creative on a 7. If you want to spend the money on a 9, that's fine, it's your money. But most people simply do not need it, and I feel like many of them do it for shock value.
You're probably right. It's just that it makes more sense musically to me rather than tuning a 7 like what Within The Ruins did for a bunch of their stuff, etc
I mean, if A.) you can use the whole range effectively And B.)You actually have fun with it, more power to you. My hands barely make it on my baritone 7.
Yeah I put .100 gauge string on my ibanez 7 string.Just Un winded some of the string drilled out two of the saddles, adjusted the action ect.Fuckin badass.. And people don't worry that the string won't fit through the tuner. Its called tapered strings lol and Just an FYI it don't sound like mud and fart with such a low tuning haha just have some good pick ups :D like emg 707's,bareknuckles or a pickup built for lows.
What string gauge/ scale is that legator, my strings get too floppy trying to tune to the correct tuning with my 7 string ibanez. Maybe try my 8 string?
Is this play through him playing not plugged in or does he have all the effects pre programmed as he plays? Either way crazy to see Joe with a 7 and playing through an ax fx
its the album audio but judging by the looks he was playing outloud for at least himself since the axe fx keeps lighting up everytime he hits the strings
Zachary Patten yup, cause it's a playthrough. I'm pretty sure he uses automatic patch changes in the daw on live gigs, which is an amazing thing that axe fx offers to you
I love how every other person in this comment section is an audio engineer
+Aidan Miller because its damn epic :D
Aidan Miller haha I know dude. Needed that chuckle thanks bro
props to wtr to NEVER changing their style. I fucking love you guys more than any other band just because of staying true!
How would anyone be able to change them anyways right?! It's a unique sound... and the production value just keeps getting better and better. Fucking love these guys with a passion!
That's it, I'm buying a 7 string now. I don't care how bad I suck or what people will say about me, I'll learn to play like this guy.
Dude, you need like, 16 gage strings to play at that low of a tuning (drop C on a base).
Nick Kapp Well I know they tune pretty low for their songs, so I'll just strive for his technique instead of tuning my guitar to sound like a foghorn. :P
Nick Kapp just drop tune it to l A# he'll be fine
Jake Bridges strings dont make the player, friend
Nick Kapp 130*
Joe is an editing wizard, but can back it up live as well...SO LEGIT
this comment!

Incredible tone.

+Death Metal Casey Tim definitely tears it up, but it would make introducing the music to people that aren't used to the vocal energy easier
+Aay lmao That wasn't what he was saying
totally fucking agree! especially for Invade, omg take my money!
So good.
I have watched this so many times, and that natural harmonic guitar rake at the end always gives me goosebumpies
Damn this shit is fuckin sick!! Can not wait for Phenomena!!
it will be PHENOMENAL HAHAHAHA GET IT?!
Rui Carneiro I don't think i get it, can you be more specific? My brain might die from a brain fart (extreme sacrasm)
Rui Carneiro fuckin' stole ittttt agh.
I freakin love Tim's vocals, but I also think having an instrumental version of this album would be killer!
I'm actually interested in how the vocals are going to be for this song... Because this doesn't sound like the preview for Ataxia III and idk of there being another instrumental in the album. Like that part from 3:15-4:50 should be really cool vocally
Lucky for you they just released instrumental albums
so much better without vocals (which i assume will be added)
I said 10 times…. I’ll say it again best guitarist of our era. Stay classy
LOVE the inlays in that guitar. so subtle and tasteful.
so the bassist rocks bridge cables, or?
i died .. .:DDD
Duh
I opened for these guys back in 2014. They were so humble. They was headbanging and rocking out to our set. They came up to us after our set, and congratulated us and complimented our sound. I will forever respect these guys until given a reason not to.
thats dope. where can i hear your band
What’s your bands name to hear it?
One of my favourite guitarists!!!
dat tone !
Heavy and groovy as always! Can't wait for the new album!
Joe, you're a phenomenal fucking musician and an inspiration to up and comers. Just became a WTR fan 2 or 3 months ago and you guys have quickly become my new favorite band. Keep jamming man!! \m/
I'm freaking obsessed with your riffs
goddamn it the intro riff is one of my fav riffs of all time, i mean, theres a TON from you Joe, but this one is just so killer, much groove, I love it
nice, very creative, great to see you play the 7 cant wait to see it live!
This is really damn good. Great production quality too
Always next level playing! I worship WTR musicianship!
You guys always have the sickest rhythms! Loved the video \m/
Been watching this guy play for almost 10 years now!
It's all Axe Fx 2, staccato effects are happening in sync with the song because his daw is sending patch and effect changes through midi. He probably has a click track going on in the background so changes are seamless
I have a Kemper. Can I do that with my DAW?
@@gabrieljames4910 yes
finally the bassist cuts through the mix, 3 albums later haha, sick tone too
great work by the way my fav album right now
something keeps me coming back to this
Damn people's comments are so f*cking dumb and ignorant is crazy. This is a play through, so of course it's going to be not direct and live. This is an audio of the official track. WITHIN THE RUINS IN THE FUTURE.
What do you mean they will 'dump the production'? Awesome tone and playing
The ending gives me spine tingles omfg
Tone, Skill and Dem RIFFS!
2 words..
GOD DAM!
I don't have enough thumbs to show how much I like this.
These riffs are killing my life. Cannot fucking wait for this album.
Not sure whether to laugh or cry. Absolutely bananas
That breakdown and that guitar...
Stunning guitar man! Hail!!!!!!
.110 .90 .54 .36 .24 .18 .15 these are the string gauges he uses you can get a similar set off of kalium's website
Awesome work! Love that tune!
but so sad I can't get a Legator guitar in France, those looks so nice! :(
the engineering and production on the album is best ive heard
Killer composition
This album is way underrated. Still my fav release of WTR's to this day.
He makes it look so easy!
5 years later and this shit still fuckin rocks
Sounds really unusual and cool!
BEST ALBUM IVE BOUGHT ALL YEAR. ILL CALL YOU CLOWN MAN! YOUR EFFECTS ARE LIKE CLOWN NOISES LOL!
favorite song on this album i used this track for a vocal cover
I love that guitar
Fucking flawless. He makes it look effortless
Peeps saying its guitar pro or midi should buy a ticket now for a show.
You'll feel stupid
Well you still can have backing tracks coming right out of the amp with the same preset, that proves nothing, he might be tight live but this sounds heavily edited and robotic
LoganCovers91 its only a playthrough... the sound is the album sound without voice.

what an insane band
that guitar is gorgeous
Now this is a guitar playthrough dammit!!!
That effect is sick.
And the quest for the brown note carries on...
Joe, just such a genius
Anyone realized, how fucking underrated they are, gosh...
Man I just came across these guys and fuck yes man. Prolly my new fav I love phenomenon that album is sick. I havent heard a song I dont like yet tho so lol
Amazed at the fact that he was able to do that with a Legator. Sheeeesh!
Finally, GP tabs sound as good as original composition!
hes using a 110g and a 80-something gauge string for his two lowest strings if u guys are wondering why it sounds so good, crisp, and clear in drop G
double drop C u mean XD
thats double drop C? O.o no way!
Now all I need to see is the drum playthrough of Gods Amongst Men...... PLEASE!!!
Ending breakdown is fucking amazing.
At 1:25 I got Gooosbumbs!!! Nice stuff!
I love that part
I thought this was in drop G until I noticed he was playing on the 2nd string. It seems to be in D standard, but an octave lower. I've never seen that before. Crazy shit

nice stuff
Dat tone, it really brings out the super-low notes.
this is some mad tetris core shit hahahaha love it
awesome!
Обожаю Вас!
Always loved how filthy the guitar tone is. dirty
Its tooooooooo way insane!
......With passion and power.
Bass drop C with a 26.5 scale 7 string? Holy dog shit taco...
he said somewhere the heaviest string hes running is a .110
heavy as fuck
camelt0ez
Jesus fuck that must be fucking thick string
camelt0ez holy shit. That is almost the double heaviest string I have ever played.
Holy dog shit taco indeed
I thought Legator baritones were 27.5" scales.
I love the way 1:37 sounds
Nice track marks
sick!
I like how Joe uses the 7 string. WTR were heavy as tits on 6 strings and he doesnt use the 7 as a crutch like a lot of bands that switch over. Just uses is for extra oomph. And he didnt mess with his tone, like some bands do when they go to seven, none of that garbage djenty tone
keep it up joe.
See, 9 string players, All most of you need is a heavily down tuned 7.
Having more range with less strings means less you need to stretch more for the same playability. I personally don't like moving between 6 or 7 frets in a scale on a single string before moving to the next. I'd rather use 4 or 5 on a bunch of strings.

After listening to old Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya and Within The Ruins, I can't go back to plain old 00000000 tabbed songs... Haha
this is fucking briliant. DAMN!!!
Go Head ! My Brother's Sucsess; Within The Ruin's And Joe Cocchi 🔥
The Joker is proud.
Clicked on the video because I knew I would find a Persona 5 reference somewhere.
HAve to admit i miss the Acacia guitar... thing was sick
So intense yet so loose in his playing. Wish a lot of guitarists played like this. I find it's so much easier and comfortable
I can only imagine how low he'd tune if he had an 8 string.
+Hank Hill a bit late. but he just got one.
larfadoodle
I WILL LUBE MY ASS IN PREPARATION FOR THE BROWN NOTE.
I just died reading this 💀💀💀💀🤘

are the bass and guitar in the same octave?
yes
This band keeps writing more and more intricate and original riffs that lick my earholes... and I don't let most
is it possible to achieve this sound without post-record mastering? it would be so cool to play like this in my room ^^
Someone point me to where or who I can exchange my soul for that talent 😔
His fifth string past the nut has a kink in it and it's making me feel all OCD
Hank Hill always count on @hank hill to pay attention to detail! You can tell I don't, took me 2 years to read the comment haha.
Damn I didn't even notice until you pointed that out fuuuuck
Does he use a custom string set for the crazy string gauges? For example takes a .110 bass string and .90 bass string for the C and F?
How is he so dang clean?
What string gauge/ scale is that legator, my strings get too floppy trying to tune to the correct tuning with my 7 string ibanez. Maybe try my 8 string?
