I'm so proud of this guy!! He is a true inspiration...hands down!! I've followed him since the early 90s and to see him evolve. What a genius!! We're not worthy RH, lol. You r one of kind!!!
This is cracking me up! Almost every other person commenting on this "mix" thinks it sucks. I sure am glad I'm more open minded to this than those of you who are not able to appreciate it. I'm sure most came hoping to hear at least something resembling the actual Blue Monday song. But this is much more of a semblance of the song, and that's it. And why not? Those "were" the days, and these are the days. It seems to me pretty much anything made anymore is subject to reinterpretation if someone wants to do so. And at times, the less it resembles the original, the better. It seems that's probably how Richie Hawtin's mind works. When he reinterprets something, it's possible it comes out sounding nothing like it originally did. Much like Kraftwerk were proud of doing throughout their careers as well as when they first started out. They were always trying to create new sounds out of known sounds. I don't see this as being much different. But it is easier to think of this mix as a brand new song as opposed to Blue Monday by New Order. Who BTW I have seen at least 10+ times (only missed them the first time they toured Los Angeles ... damn!) and own every album on vinyl New Order released. I absolutely love New Order. But Richie Hawtin has definitely got his own style and thing going on. Love him too. I just try to keep up with the latest and need to realise that what has been done is in the past, and to keep my eye out for what I know is the next new thing when I hear it. It's the shit that excites you, just like the first time I heard Blue Monday ... and was blown away. Still one of my favorite dancefloor songs. But to say this sucks ... well, to me it is just admitting you don't get it, or are too old to know or care anymore. Because this sure as hell does not suck. I'm playing it on repeat right now and loving it! And yes, I am glad for myself :D Nuff said, I am out!
A sublime remix. I was impressed that it didn't retain much of the original progressions, giving it a more inspired, inner work than just a quick by night cut-and-paste job. Good show!
Richie is a all round god of the mix - his talents are higher than most that knock him. This is a good mix of this track, shame Hardfloor showed the world exactly how to remix it!
Am I the only one here who considers Hawtin to be amongst the greatest producers around? I produce myself and I've been making music since I was about 8 years old; over that time, I've come to the conclusion that producing music is more about idea than execution. Evidence: good punk music. Not saying technical knowledge isn't important, but Richie has that, and even so, it's always going to be as subjective as you could claim the creative side of music to be!
I've no problem...and I've listened at Richie so many times..all over the world..Ibiza,Barcelona,Manheeim,Rome,Detroit, but despite of this I can absolutely affirm, IN MY OPINION, that the New Order's version is the only one..SO WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM??!!
Just a different dimension. The power of this record is. You could play this incredibly loud without destroying the speakers. A master magician must have master this track! Go and try it out yourself!
i agree, easily one of the best. rare to find music that accesses those dark states of mind so perfectly. michael gira from Swans is another that does it so well. disconnect and rewind are way up there. ping pong is amazing to get blazed to as well. The Hacker is rare darkness too...
Richie was and is just one of the best electronical artists! we can be proud to have.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also im proud to had the best partys ever with such djs and producers. Holy shit. and he makes still today best fine minimal techno. His dj sets and in first his live acts are today one of the bests you can still get and you will ever get. His set on ten years cocoon @ amnesia awesome!!!! best minimal since the last 3 years here around
@Arjetube I was there too dude, but I'm not complaining. I found it to be such an emotionally intense experience that I started to cry halfway through. It was amazing.
I really like this I love the minimalist acid house feel.....if you want the original listen to the original if you want something different listen to a remix ....good on you for this mix
There is nothing wrong with this. Playing with sound and music should be encouraged as it can never ever detract from the original works. Every composer has done this in one way or another, this is just same. Don't worry, Blue Monday still exists.
seriously i am old enough to have bought Blue Monday when it came out in 83 and I've never heard a remix I like even by the likes of Hardfloor (who i really rate) but this is just flat out one of the funkiest things I've heard in years...even possibly a better dance tune than New Order's original (but possibly not a better indie tune)
@DangerRifai Yes, good music is about fundamentals, not embellishment. Hawtin has a very firm grasp on the fundamentals and his songs either emphasize or just imply the basic building blocks of techno.
the tunnel was quite solid... ;-) he changed, he didn't get better or worse or whatever, his perception of what he wanted just changed... and de de9 series are just pure genius... if you don't acknowledge that, you just might be one of those who say in discussions that "richie was way better in the earlier years" if you know what i mean (not saying you are). ;-) richie hawtin is a genius, period.
no..your not the only one. plastikman & aphex twin (richie &richard) are absolutely briljant. a great soundsystem does help a lot in understanding this music. the sound has to be big to realy "get it" But this is so good i can listen to it on a small kitchen radio. but for the non believers....go see this guy live!! then you'll know
One of the greatest musicians this world's ever seen, and he has a girlfriend or is married. Besides, who gives a fuck, he's a legend, I couldn't care less if he was gay or straight.
I love Hawtin's minimalistic progressive style. It's just begging to be tweaked, mixed, fattened up with some chords or whatever one might be inclined to do, but I think that's the point. IMO, his tracks are meant for DJ's, artists, creative individuals. I have yet to see him live but I imagine he crafts performances using his tracks, his gear, etc. to create something that is more than the sum of its parts. I think many people fail to appreciate this when critiquing his music.
@PVSJuicer in terms of this youtube conversation, the use of the word 'gay' is obviously being used to described him as looking like someone that the word 'gay' has a majoritavely strong connection to. Nowadays someone described as being gay is relating to them being Homosexual. Someone saying, he looks so gay, is relating to them looking like what the 'cliche' gay person looks like.
Erm,just stumbled upon this..............it's music, not owt else.....Music is freedom from the daily grind. If I like it,I wouldn't give a shit if it was made by a cat
@phiegnux, dude I also listen shpongle, infected mushroom and that kind of music, but that' s a different kind of music. You can' t compare that music with this
Just so stupid man. This guy is simply one of the best artists of minimal techno, with a great sense of music and rythm. What the link between that and his way of wearing? I thought the same when I was 12 lol.
Do not drag me from four on the floor with the wicked, and with believers of iniquity, who speak peace to their neighbors while malice is in their hearts. Here we live in the highest. There the naysayers lie fallen, thrown down and unable to rise. Will iniquity never hear? Their empty souls devour the body of false prophets who profit as their bread- How dead. We make a joyful sound unto the Lord of the wheels of steel- so fantastik. For He, truly, is da only One we know we call, da Plastik! 👨🏽🔬 😻
@DangerRifai No you arent,if you look around you will see an interview with deadmau5,he lists Richie Hawtin as one of his favourites.Seen this guy live a few times at a few festivals. He is amazing
@danusmc78 ...TRUE! So mark my words; it's so easy to be unkind, it's alot harder and takes alot more effort and empathy to be loving and have understanding and tact. How many people do you know that have that capability?
The master, techno god. He was born to do it!! Still have mad luv for u RH 25 yrs ltr. Don't stop the musik!!
Such funky drums in this, cant understand all the negativity, this is Richie Hawtin GOLD.
I think the Hardfloor remix from 1995 which is similar in spirit is better than this
I'm so proud of this guy!! He is a true inspiration...hands down!! I've followed him since the early 90s and to see him evolve. What a genius!! We're not worthy RH, lol. You r one of kind!!!

+Greg “middleclassic” B great! I wish I could have ever go to one of "these were the days" parties!
Right! It’s true. True Faith.
Greg B Agreed, well said.
A sublime remix. I was impressed that it didn't retain much of the original progressions, giving it a more inspired, inner work than just a quick by night cut-and-paste job. Good show!
Ritchie is the BEST Dj on the world. Go Rtchie go.... pozz from Serbia
I heard this track for the first time about a year-year and a half ago. Still sounds as fresh as it did the first time I heard it.
An original re-interperetation of a classic as only Mr. Hawtin can imagine it. Solid!
Richie is a all round god of the mix - his talents are higher than most that knock him.
This is a good mix of this track, shame Hardfloor showed the world exactly how to remix it!
Hi , I'm not from Berlin , but I love this remix !
Super 909 and sampler action !
Dancer vibes and 4 on the 4 rhythm , techno party is treat.
they dont call him mr. minimal for nothing, always was and still is one of the best minmal dj's and producers out there next to dubfire.
Am I the only one here who considers Hawtin to be amongst the greatest producers around?

Huh!Good and deep mix from Richie...
Clap!Clap!
If I know my music (and I think I do), those claps are the "hi-hat" drums on the Roland TR-909 drum machine. It's legendary in techno circles.
i agree, easily one of the best. rare to find music that accesses those dark states of mind so perfectly. michael gira from Swans is another that does it so well. disconnect and rewind are way up there. ping pong is amazing to get blazed to as well. The Hacker is rare darkness too...
I appreciate his talent. very creative. saw him in d town. will never forget it!!!!

The original is a classic. This is fenomenal!
i love how it sounds so off-beat yet in sync at the same time. just fucks with my mind.

hi im from germany and i like Richie Hawtin Amazing song
the tunnel was quite solid... ;-) he changed, he didn't get better or worse or whatever, his perception of what he wanted just changed... and de de9 series are just pure genius... if you don't acknowledge that, you just might be one of those who say in discussions that "richie was way better in the earlier years" if you know what i mean (not saying you are). ;-) richie hawtin is a genius, period.

最初は全然blue monday感がなかったけど、どんどんかっこよくなってくる!!
yeah you are right. this tune totally rocks.
why didn't he play tracks like this in his life performance @TIMEWARP 2010 ?
To all the nay-sayers - when ur headlining festivals come back and post. Obviously the man is a genius - if you don't like it, don't listen. Easy.
He's a great human being and that's all that really matters.
Well... mostly human. ;)
James Conrad mostly a god !
I met him, just pure crazy talent

One of the greatest musicians this world's ever seen, and he has a girlfriend or is married. Besides, who gives a fuck, he's a legend, I couldn't care less if he was gay or straight.
What a trip man ♫♫♫!
Ritchie Hawtins smile is bigger than his ears. Right Rich??

@newwatch51 you can call it pop or disco then ... with a different melody, beat and bassline...
@danusmc78 ...TRUE! So mark my words; it's so easy to be unkind, it's alot harder and takes alot more effort and empathy to be loving and have understanding and tact. How many people do you know that have that capability?
I met this guy once..in DC
wonderfull OMGGGG...
Funky fresh!
I like this more than the original
@ClubTrance88 This is trance, except with a different beat, a different bassline, and a different melody. Other than that though, it's trance.
@greeen444 Well, this is a remix of a remix of New Order's Blue Monday, so technically New Order created it and he made techno out of it.
dancing & feel the beats 8D
he is sooo greaaatttt
Sheeeez people!! who he sleeps with is his own business! The man has some fuckin SIIIICK sense of rythm wether he's gay or not
