- Dean Potter, 46, and his friend Graham Hunt, 29, were found dead after jumping from Taft Point in Yosemite National Park on Saturday. Potter was a pioneer in climbing and wingsuiting, and created “freeBASE,” an extreme sport that combines skydiving and rock climbing without ropes.

Whisper, Potter's dog, did not join him on that final jump, so the dog is fine. Thank God. I just wish people wouldn't do such dangerous things. Sad.

And thank God this poor little dog didn't want to go. Good for him. The dog got a bad feeling this one time and dogs are so far from stupid. They can sense tension and will try to evade it. This dog lived to see another day and also, let's go as far as to say, he knew that maybe his master was a little apprehensive and he sensed it. Don't ever underestimate a dog's keen senses. Too bad the human didn't but, he deserved what happened to him. Mother Nature can only stand just so much and then, teach a fool a lesson and the lesson was death so I feel nothing at all for this jerk. Keep doing what you're doing and when mother nature gets angry, then she'll kill you to protect all animals. No humans, just animals which she and she alone created. No love loss for stupid humans. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Agree. God rest his soul but I would never do that to my pets, never put them in that situation, no matter what people say. Matter of fact I would feel I'd have to chose: either I base sum and have no attachments to people or pets or if I did, I quit risky endeavours.

I've seen the footage of dean and grahams death , was really low light and heavy winds they both crashed immediately after jumping within 15 seconds at most ..graham hit a notch immediately and went flying straight into dean who tried to dodge , he made the dodge but maneuvers right into a huge rock/wall that he had zero chance of missing , just hear loud wind and huge crash followed by death rattle ...they should release the videos of these wingsuit deaths so young kids who want to do it can see it's literally life or death every jump ..

You are sardonic pal, but you have a valid point! They ALWAYS say "he died doing what he loved" like that makes it alright. It doesn't, because it cuts their lives short and families and loved ones grieve. Living only one-third or one-half of your life is not enough, and you realize that as you age and longevity becomes a lot more appealing than a few short moments of daring.

I am as far from an adventurous soul as one can get, but I agree, follow your dreams & your passion, however don't take an innocent animal with you in a sport that has extreme fatality rates.
He died doing what he loved. I have a feeling his family have discussed the danger with him and had a feeling something bad _could_ happen, so I am guessing this wouldn't be a _complete_ shock. It would be like those programmes where they interview the families of soldiers who were killed, and nearly all of them say, "I told them they shouldn't join the army, but they loved it so much..."

Wingsuit flying it the world's most dangerous sport. MANY have died since the inception of the sport. Man was not meant to fly, and they don't, gravity wins every time; it is merely a semi-controlled fall to earth. You need speed to create life but with speed, you can lose control There is very little surface to LIFT in those wing-suits, so they may go forward a bit, but it's mostly just a fall to earth with a small amount of forward propulsion.

Every time your feet leave the ground you are in greater risk of dying. Sparing with the Grim Reaper is not advisable. Don't risk years of life doing other things you love too. I'm certain these are all very good and heavily loved people.

DigestiveDunker If a dog loses their master or best friend; whether it be a human or another animal, will often become depressed and stop eating until they die. It is more common for a dog who has suffered loss to kill themselves out of sadness then for a dog has suffered loss to keep on living. I don't know if cats are the same but I know this happens a lot to dogs. If this dog was as close to the man as the video suggests; he'll probably die within the coming months.
I hope you all are able to recover from the terrible news that the dog survived. ...Because I know how you all believe "it's best when everyone who knows you dies together in a mass tragedy", rather than just one person dying and leaving all the other "sad" people still living.
