I have been obsessed with this concerto for over 20 years. I’ve listened to it in my car over and over and over, I can hum practically every note, I’ve seen it performed live (a birthday present) and it still moves me, and I can never fully explain why or how. There’s just something familiar and safe and warming and comforting about it. Who can know why? It just is.
If I was forced to pick a favorite piece of classical music, this would have to be it. I've listened to it hundreds of times, and just as familiar as it sounds each time, there is also a new & "freshness" to it that stirs my soul each time.
El Mestro Nicolai Lugansky, extraordinario y maģistral pianista. Tecnica virtuosa. Musicalidad , superemotiiva. El mejor pianista del mundo!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
So much of classical music is just so beautiful, but this piece by Beethoven combines some of the most lyrical and beautifully serene passages with loud, marching, forceful themes that are just as beautiful in their own way. They combine to make something that I feel in my soul. Gives me chills every time I hear it. He started losing his hearing 11 years before he wrote this, and just the fact that he was about 5 years away from losing his hearing completely, it is just astounding that he crafted something this amazing.
Just gotten around to listening to Beethoven's Concertos & Symphonies, in entirety; this is such a profound gem of technical and philosophical analysis of one of Ludwig greatest, if not great, works. Nikolai's intonation, expression and Pianistic brilliance is inspiring. With such humility and candor does he expostulate the work. Thanks again for the film!
Sjajni Nikolaj! ,,Putovanje''kroz 5.koncert bez orkesta, Luganski je vodio sa lakocom i sa mnogo stila.Mnogo volim tog velikog pijanistu! Bravo maestro!
bjames not at first nor at that moment but that theme is the basis for the variations throughout the rest of the 1st mvmnt played solo piano. as an example, see 5:49

I am obsessed with all of Beethoven.
I feel the same indescribable connection to the Rach 2 and 3 concertos
So, you're not alone with it 🙂

Fascinating to hear the orchestral parts played on piano! Nikolai is just wonderful!!! Can't wait for this concert!
I'd absolutely love to hear his complete performance of this concerto without orchestra.

Wow,,,,,just love it! Beautiful.
How many contemporary pianists could present such an exemplary analysis, including orchestral, piano, and compositional exposy ?
Most interesting!
Thank you!
Whenever I hear this mean speak, he triggers my ASMR lol.
2:35 the piano never plays that theme in the actual concerto does it?
