dude the last thing these people want to hear from a stranger on facebook is that their “”$500 worth of. comic books are really only worth $40 lol
Well when you put it like that lol
People can ask for what they want for their comics, it’s their property, you can buy or pass, it’s people that try to lowball people who are in desperate financial need, really bugs me
Sellers have the right to start high, buyers have the right to ask low. And both have the right to pass.
Also, asking for a fair market price on a book that is grossly priced way above any real value isn't lowballing, but I agree with you that ethics need to remain on both sides. I wouldn't stereotype lowballers as people in desperate financial need though. Sometimes they are just lowballers to be lowballers, no matter their financial situation.
Look, man, you're right. Those books are not worth messing with. That being said, they're not worth being messed with. This seller doesn't care if they sell this or not. They just price them high and see if anyone offers to buy them. They're waiting for some person to come in and buy what they have left. If they really had that box, then they probably have sold a lot. Who cares? When someone pops up on Facebook and tells you your crap is worthless, they're just assuming you're low-balling them. You're not educating them, you're just arguing with them. At that point, they'll double the price on you. You shot your shot. You missed. These books aren't worth messing with. I would just let it go.
This isn't about me complaining about "missing a shot." It's about educating people so no one watching becomes the person overpaying for these books. That's the point.
Glad u back an hopefully doing well my g #NeverGiveUp 💪🏻💯👏🏻
Hey Jerno, I live 2,800 miles from A-1 Comics in Canada’s capital city. My best friend lives in British Colombia and was taking a month long vacation in PNW and NorCal and I asked him to stop in Sacramento and buy me a comic book at A-1 Comics since he was going down there anyways. He’s not a comic book fan so I told him not to break the bank like get a $10-$20 book. He fulfilled my weirdish lol request. He mailed them to me 2,500 miles from B.C. to me. He got me two Batman comics; a $10 copper age Batman and a $4 Batman facsimile. All because I heard you pimping for A-1 in so many videos hahaha
That's so cool! Thanks for sharing this story with me!
Great video, very informative. Good to see you back 👍
Thanks for watching!
Hi Chris, I appreciated the video. Some store owners in that space can be very stubborn about inflated prices. A couple of boxes of comics really don't take up a lot of space, and they are waiting for that inexperienced buyer who doesn't know any better. Believe me, they come along.
Thanks for watching! I know those inexperienced buyers come along, and that's why I made the video. To hopefully share some "experience" with those that might know no better.
I have to say I really enjoy these videos. I can relate to similar experiences on facebook marketplace.
Thanks for watching!
Hey!! You’re back!! Glad to see you!!
Good to see you doing your grind my bro...im a 1st time comment, long time viewer 👍🏼
Appreciate you being here!
Hello Jerno, I have seen you do a few of these videos and they always turn out the same way. Why do you keep wasting time with these sellers?
It's to show other collectors how to avoid these types of situations.
perception of value - pass - also an in video ad and YT ad in 1st few minutes of the video - also pass
Yet here you are leaving a comment. Appreciate it! 🙏🏻
Glad to see you're back in action, educating these ignoramuses
Yo my man great coverage always. ❤
Thank you! Good to see you in the comments!
@@JernosComicsPopCulture yeah bro had second baby lol
It’s funny and kinda sad, but she’ll probably find someone equally as ignorant to buy them. They’ll see that high price and assume they are good books. Seen it happen a million times.
I have a feeling she wont.
There’s no way comics is already a hobbie stereotyped as the “cheap piece of paper who would spend so much on that” type of hobby which it’s not so people who look at these books either are just plain dumb or are gonna give her a side eye and dip😂
Nothing turns me off more than an individual selling high priced books, but does not treat them as collectibles like with the protection of normal bags and boards. Dealer should have spent $20 to have them all protected.
Im not saying that this happened. I've been on both sides when not hearing a person's tone, education through only text can be misinterpreted as condescending or lecturing. Why I prefer verbally negotiating
Oh absolutely, but I think it became clear that she knew what she was doing, knew she didn't carea bout selling them at a fair value, and would rather let them sit until some fool didn't know any better.
Are u back for good hopefully everything is better now
I'm trying. I'm still suffering from vertigo but I'm up walking with a cane so it's gradually getting better.
Get better man. Youare going through alot. Im a cancer survivor if i can beat that you can beat veritgo
I actually think $100 for that Transformers #1 isn't excessive. But the rest are ridiculously priced. Every time I look at Facebook market place for comics I regret it. I recently enquired about a New mutants 87 1st cable which had thick pen writing on the cover plus other defects. Firm price on enquiry $200. Back to ebay for me
You can just respect her price and say pass. I came across a comic collection on Fb and the seller wanted 10k on a 90's collection. Granted it has New Mutants 98, Batman Adventures 12, Venom number 1 but it isnt worth 10K dollars. I messaged him if he is open to selling just The New Mutants 98, he said "no." So I didnt reply and passed on it. No need to educate non comic collectors who dont know the value. A week ago I found a Fantastic Four number 48 long with a short box of silver age comics, seller wanted 30 dollars for it. So I took the opportunity and bought it!
Those comics must have sat with her for a long time. If I were in your shoes, I would check and observe if she will be desperate to sell it. Be a salesman. Talk like a salesman to these people. Always be positive and always be nice. So she overpriced the Groo comic, dont tell her she overpriced them. Be SAVVY. Learn how to talk to people to get what you want.
Why did u even try so hard man the books are trash why even waste time talking !! U going back and forward was not even worth it!! U should hav said u got books what’s your price too high I am good 😮
Remember, everything I do in situations like this is to educate those that might know no better.
excellent
some sellers don't really collect comics and don't appreciate them for what they are! they automatically think cause its an older comic, they have somehow hit a gold mine! those type of people i refer to as scalpers!
Lady be trying to fleece people.😂😂
For many, as soon as you start to educate they will shut down. Gather the info, make an offer (40 books for what are mid-grade at about $x per book I will do $y total and pick up). If they want to know more about how you got the price you are offering then there is an opportunity to educate. She won’t change her approach.
There are so many delusional sellers on Facebook marketplace.
At least she's not giving sellers $1 for their books and then selling them for $35. Right Chris?
Not understanding the passive aggressive inuendos of this comment, sorry.
Or maybe I'm just readiing into it wrong.
I've educated some people here in my little town. But some PEOPLE are very IGNORANT about the facts. A lady here has 3 long boxes, wants minimum $2000. But, she won't let anyone look at the books!
Oh wow sounds like those boxes are going to collect major dust!
Is this a new video or old video reposted?
Good video, i something that gets me mad everytime is when someome doesnt have a proce and you ask them how much an they tell you to make an offer. I always start at 1 dollar cause if it was up to me id just send you a 12 pack of cokes and call it good
You have every right as a buyer to start low.
What app did you use to reference for her?
Covrprice
We have this attitude today that if we're wrong, just pretend we aren't wrong. That'll save us.
Right!? lol
i seem to see this a lot where i live too! i have a few antique shops that sell comic books, and they are all way over priced! i have found comics that were priced at 15 to 20 dollars that i looked up on ebay and all that sold ended up selling for 3 to 5 dollars at the top end at best! they say they use ebay to price them!?! i don't think so!! i don't get it!?! they are obviously either clueless on how to price their books, or they are just being greedy!
You can't educate a "Karen". Though thanks for posting this video to help educate the rest of us.
The only thing I like is that she uses a black background like I do... everything else...bruh...
If I were in your shoes I just would have bought the Transformers comic and nothing else. I will say "All I can afford is the Transformers comic." The offer her a lowball price. I would have not said she overpriced the books because in the future, she might get key issues AND UNDERPRICE them. I recently bought key Silver age Spider-man books (First appearance Prowler, first appearance Morbius, first appearance Kingpin) ALL for just 25 dollars take all. They are all mid-low grade. Dont preach to people who dont know how to price comics or people who are selling comics but have no idea what they are worth, I think the reply you gave to her about her pricing of the Groo comic irked her off and the conversation went downhill from there.. There are other ways to say it nicely. Learn to be more savvy. Think about this, what if she will have key comics in the future that will be worth thousands of dollars but she will just underprice them, you lost that opportunity because you lost the connection.
I swear I heard this story before....
Love your content, Jerno, but I think the reality is someone ignorant about comics isn't looking to become less ignorant. They're desperately seeking someone even more ignorant to take advantage of.
This is true. But those uneducated to how ignorant sellers work can now have some insight on how not to make bad purchasing decisions.
You can't educate someone who is not willing to be educated and no matter how humble you may think you are, in text it will always come off as aggressive.
I have tried to educate people in person but they are of the mindset of that's ok someone else will buy them. That's fine with me.
I just source my books elsewhere. I just look for the books that they got lazy at after they tried to put high dollar amounts after spending 2 hours on eBay trying to get prices.
Very true.
CJ oh man, I'm crying my eyeballs out another close friend is in heaven. 2024 has not been a real great one. Thank you for what you do
Praying for you, Chris!
Makes me wonder if someone got them by overselling prices. Still it drives me crazy when someone doesn’t wanna at least have a two sided conversation and learn something they may not know!
Indeed.
Seems like FBM is a giant pain in the ass. You’ve already posted many videos about bad experiences on FBM. Have you had any positive experiences on FBM?
I have. There's been a few, but it's not something that I frequently use.
The name says it all. Karen
That Groo book should be worth $90 it’s a classic!
She don’t care what the book goes for she prob looked at listing price and wants to scam…that being said your intention was good behind what you said but at the same time there’s no point in educating someone who don’t care.no hate towards you it’s just you can’t teach someone who don’t wanna learn
The real education here is to viewers watching that might be new collectors that wouldn't know better. So hopefully people watch and learn how to avoid paying way too much for comics.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture and you did a good explanation on it I’m just saying this lady was not a person willing to understand the hobby and try and be fair she just wants the highest dollar and not willing to be fair
Like the channel - but I mean, at some point, they're asking you to move on regardless of what they know or don't and it's their right. So, at some point, you're not educating, you're just making content for the channel. And that's fine. But you're playing the I'm just here to educate card pretty hard.
I think I was very fair in my communication all the way through, and didn't "pressure" her in any way. You are correct that the intent is for content, but I do it for content to educate viewers. It's important to me to show these situations, including how the communication unfolds, so uneducated collectors, or new collectors, know what to spot, know how to be educated buyers.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture I think it's important to note that if you got someone who responded positively, and even if they didn't budge on price, showed genuine appreciation for the information, I'm reasonably certain you would sing their praises and use it as an object lesson just the same.
Waste of time when people take this kind of attitude
