We often have a crack at France (until recently) for lukewarm assistance to Ukraine, but Spain has been pathetic. They should be ashamed.
Hey Macca!
GreatBritain should be even ashamederder. Brexit, Putin, Boris Johnsson, Adamov, Nigel Farage, Putin, Londongrad, Putin, and yes: Putin.
Spain is not a particularly rich country like Italy for instance.
Spain has no stakes here folks, they are not like the rest of Europe sunk in hatred towards Russia. And more important, Spain has other way more important problems to address, like Morroco, and USA aid to Morroco rearming their air force with f-35, fueling their ideas of claiming Canary island, Ceuta and Melilla. I don't see any lobby in the European parliament or politician requesting / giving some help to Spain. So....
" 3 ferrets and a badger " lol. Congrats on 41K
Still the best in the Biz Jonathan
Jonathan I agree that Ukraine definitely needs Air defense systems ASAP. Everyone seems to be overlooking the F16's which are also very capable air defense platforms. Especially with the upgraded radar and weapons systems that should be included with the planes.
Slava Ukraine!
I read Patriot “missiles” instead of “systems” in original docs. I couldn’t figure why people were talking about more systems immediately.
Best line I have ever heard you say, "His head isn't filled with three ferrets and a badger" 😂😂
Solid info. Take care team!

@@surpriseitsus9622 hi Lynn🙂🤗 ooo a busy day for you🙂 how long is your guest staying for?
When it comes to mobilize in Ukraine they should have some similar system like we had here in Sweden before, every healthy man did military training when they left school (around 19-20 year), they was given education and training in the areas where they suited best, for example if he was good in computer technology he was signed up for training in similar military areas and so on, the best of all those guys was hired of the military and the rest was send back home to work but still served as reservists, they still trained regular and could be called in if needed, we still have a similar system but in a smaller scale and includes women to😊

The aid packages are both upgrading their military and wiping out one of the two actual adverseries they have.
Yes I agree! The Taurus Missile is kept as a part of the not only EU Nuclear Triad, but the entire worlds. So while we have the Land based Aegis System in Poland and Romania armed with SM-3 Missiles which are Ballistic Missile Interceptors usually found on our Destroyers and Cruisers. We do have whatever Vessels that are at Sea Armed with SM-3 Missiles from the US, and maybe UK and France? But we also have Patriot Systems on duty always in the EU armed with PAC-3 Missiles and around the world really. Then we have munitions like Taurus that could be used to Attack any missiles on the ground before Launching! Absolutely makes 100% sense!!!
Thank you. We often forget that NATO is not a loose conglomerate of self-defending nations, but rather a tightly organised network of 'each other-defending' nations.
@@Sophiedorian0535 Yes! Absolutely Correct! We do not make decisions for other nations! We can give them our point of view, but that is all. Every Nation has the right to make their own choices! Thank You for that, I have never heard it said in the way you did. Which was absolutely correct, and spot on!
@@Sophiedorian0535 But when it comes to Nato we all have a way of doing something to protect the world from Nuclear Weapons. Nato is a TEAM EFFORT! So that is the one thing we all commit to and respond to. For really everyone in the world!!!
@@Sophiedorian0535 But Freedom is the glue that keeps us all tightly stuck together in Nato when it comes to defending every inch of it.
@@jmtpolitico80 The American public seems little aware of what makes NATO tick.
Three years ago, during the Covid pandemic, I used to break the subject to my American respondents, asking them what face masks are for. Disappointingly few replied that one wears a face mask in order to protect the people around one, and not so much in order to protect oneself, against getting infected.
Americans are like Europeans, though. Showing the same ratio of egocentric people versus allocentric people. The latter deserve better PR, though.
Thanks for all of the info JP. Have a great weekend everyone.

Wait, so Australia has provided more $ in aid than Spain, a NATO country in Europe?
Australia spends a higher % of their GDP on military expenditure than the % of GDP that Spain spends on military. Yet Spain has given far more to Ukraine. Makes sense given that Australia doesn't have many allies nearby and is so close to China.

Another excellent video JP. BTW I'm traveling across the West Arizona Nevada, California currently in Oregon. Highly subjective observation there seems to be fewer Trump flags flying and I even saw a Joe Biden flag in Oregon. The MAGA disease is sliding towards oblivion.
Germany has a Coalition Government. Schultz is leader, but he, in all likelihood, has to keep other parties happy and may be getting some resistance. This is just conjecture on my part and there may be another more undisclosed reason.
Sophie @ 100% There are undoubtedly lots of other reasons too, but she beautifully lays out their critical place in NATO's global defense. That fact alone is reason not to let Russia or anyone see them in action.
Point two.
What the US says can come from a democrat or a republican. What the US says should be focused on winning the war instead of anyone's feelings or honesty. As such and as always, words don't matter, focus on what they do and where the money flows.

Hi Jonathan. Your work is wonderful and much appreciated!
I would like to ask you to consider different ways of considering NATO military expenditures, as you have in the past when comparing actual expenitures vs expenditure as % of GDP. NATO's 2% of GDP is "guideline," not a "requirement." There could be other ways to establish the guideline, such as per capita expenditure. Spain military spending in 2023 was about the same as Poland's. Their population is 15% larger, yet they are far further from the front, and I'm sure they contribute more thru EU. Every country is unique and i do not believe it is easy or fair to compare each by one set of metrics.
While we all in the west want each country to do the most they can to support Ukraine and EU protection, i don't believe shaming/blaming is as useful tool for encouragement.
I couldn't agree more Karen.
I agree, but the graphs are a good way to show what's being or has been given.

NATO's Strategic Concept: Implications for Greece and Türkiye
This article is a good read about why Greece is so hesitant to giveaway too much
I read an article that Raytheon is building one Patriot per month, and the pipeline is not full, so they could slip one or two into near term stream.
Canada recently made the "huge" commitment to get up to 1.76% of GDP .
I've read that Taurus production is winding down because there are no new orders. Someone in NATO should be ordering some with intent to provide them to Ukraine. At least that way they would be in play eventually, just like the promised patriots.
I didn't know that the K.G.ustaB. controlled ground launch nukes. That is truly terrifying. They are russian fanatics who would launch.
Abrams: US/NATO "taught tactics" fundamentally DEPEND on Air superiority. Ukraine doesn't have that because US/NATO has not provided the needed systems.
F-16s "by Summer". Is that 2024 or 2025?
This war has shown that NOW, a war will use more than 3K 155 per month. So for now US will be supplying Ukraine, but they will also be stockpiling some and helping NATO allies to stock pile.
The Taurus explanation is interesting and credible now we know
Jake was literally the dude holding the keys in the silo. Me thinks we are overblowing his stance on this. Hes an awesome guy, and I mean cmon its awesome that said key guy talks to us, but maybe...
But maybe .. he was just the silo key guy?
He also failed to make the distinction between Russian tactical nukes and Russian strategic nukes. Of the 6000 units, over half are tactical. One half to four kilotons max, meant to be deployed on the battlefield.
@@Sophiedorian0535 my point was that he's literally a silo guy. But I will die on this hill if you or I think we know any more about nuclear war than Jake.
I still don't understand how European countries can't crowdfound for the Patriotsystem and then US sends, seems like the fastest, most fair and doable solutions. Countries in EU don't have anough systems to just send one to Ukraine.
New batteries aren't much good if they don't have missiles to put in them, although I agree the U.S. should have promised more Patriot batteries right at the start of the war, not more than two years later.
jonathon , i noticed yesterday that comments were turned off in 2 of your videos ,i in your last video the trolls were there in force very early i was reported twice for hate speech and warned by youtube ,did anyone else get reported ?
Saying anything anti-russian is a big no-no for YT, one might think that a company based in a democracy would not have such a hard-on for a dictatorship.
it's happened 3 times recently - not sure what is going on.
Always love JP. But have to mention Cyprus again. Saying Cyprus is split between Greece send Turkey is like say crimea is the Russian side of Ukraine. Cyprus is Cyprus there is a free side and s occupied side. Greece has issues with Turkey but they are a bit different yo the cypriot issue with Turkey
Apologies
Abrahams armour has been stripped down, all depleted armour is removed!
I never have understood the concept of weapons technology falling into enemy hands. Whats the use of fancy weapons if you're affraid to use them. All this timid behavior is only extending the war and adding to casualties.
With the Patriots it's actually the missiles that are more expensive then the system itself. And I think they need the missiles first.
Olaf Scholz said in a televised Bundestag conference on Taurus recently: "there are certain things regarding Taurus that I am not free to divulge here in public". So lets stop all the speculation and assume that he knows what he is doing.
I assume the certain things are 1) He is scared of Putin there is some evidence for this in his arms supply policy, 2) he is a russian agent (very unlikely), 3) Tarus doesn't work or works far less well than the sales documents say
I think 1 is most likely but could very well have a bit of 3 as well
That's indeed my point to a large degree.
Genau so. Bin völlig einverstanden.
Ya the only way I see using them in Ukraine, is from the most extended Distance as possible and protected by multiple drone Spotter watching the entire area for enemy drones. We do not want to lose our best Tank cause of stupid Drones! I get it frustrating! But you always protect your Best Assets the most! We just have to find a new way to use them. And we will and use them effectively I am positive about that! And we will get a pretty good Package of Abrams I think from this Package! Even 100 more is badass! These things are hugely effective and Destructive! Drones though make a totally different battlefield! 1 Abrams Tank = about 7 T-72 and maybe 4-5 T-90s! If not more depending on how they are used! The Abrams should out range any other Tank on the Battlefield, so if a couple could just sit 2-5km away from a Tactical Column, they could literally use all their Amo destroying everything they hit! Rinse and Repeat if you can keep the Drones out of the way!
Yes they need Patriot System absolutely and will happen one way or the other soon! But Ukraine already have what 5-6 on order on their own. So we really need to keep up with the Missile and not the systems! Pac-2 are $4,000,000 USD/per missile! Pac-3 are $$7,000,000! Hence why Missiles need to be built more and faster than we need to build Patriot Systems. Yes we need to build the systems, but the Missiles is the most Important part. Not like it takes a couple days to build a missile.
7:37 South Korea it's only to have too many air defense quality, ready and BETTER cost. Europa need sign a agreement with s korea for mutual help

John, mate, the Taurus does not keep Germany safe from Russian nukes.
The range is far too short to hit them all and the silo launched missiles is just one of at least four different launch methods Russia has at their disposal. They have roaming launcher trucks at any given time, they have bombers (unless Ukraine destroys them all) and submarines. So even IF the only way Russia could launch their nukes was with their bunkers, the Taurus would be effectively useless with its severely limited range for this purpose anyways. I don’t think the Germans are so delusional they think Taurus would have any meaningful impact if Russia decided it was time for an all out strategic nuke shitfest.
The only real deterrence is NATOs nuclear umbrella. Send Taurus to Ukraine now so they can help Russia lose on the battleground and perhaps reinvent itself as a normal nation. That would be the only way Taurus can realistically bring any semblance of safety from nuclear attacks.
I just said the exact same thing..............russia has something on Schultz.
But Jake Broe pointed out yesterday that Russia has nuclear bombs hidden in lots of places, so Taurus wouldn't be able to nullify a nuclear attack.
I dealt with this point by saying it's part of a whole repertoire of things that would be used by many countries together. This is what Germany can add as they are a non-nuclear nation.
GLSBD FOR NOW ARE GOOD USE AS GRAD
I hate to say it but Trump is right about one thing. Passed time that al NATO countries pulled their weight!
Trump’s motivation was to generate more sales of US military hardware, wear as the European countries were leaning towards developing their own military factories like France who are not dependent upon USA. They do not favour the F35 as they have several fighter aircraft like the Rafael, Mirage, etc. Germany manufactures many of its own hardware and giving Ukraine packages of a variety of hardware, unfortunately not Taurus missiles.
Repeating the rubbish that Donald Chaos spouts will only reflect his low level of intellect.
But in the case of a rustroll, that might even be a minimal upgrade.
In 2018 we had 16 Patriot Battalions! Which operate 50 Batteries! And have over 1,200 Missiles for! I am sure we have more batteries and systems now. Maybe 18 Battalions! But at the rate we are using and going through Patriot Missiles are Staggering! So we need Missile Production Ramped up Big Time! Along with the SM-2 & SM-3 Missiles being used in the Red Sea. Probably around 100 of these missiles have been used in the Red Sea Battle and the Attack from Israel we used a few from the USS Carney & USS Arleigh Burke which were in the eastern Med when Iran Attacked Israel. So the US really needs to Ramp up production and maybe even get on a War footing as well! But I am not sure the American People will go that far. Biden and Congress would have to make a very big and well done Speech to get that done I think. But it can be done, everyone just needs to know where in the hell we are at in the world! Unlike MTG!
That is all! Thanks JP, TEAM!!!
No speech will convince the American people. Most are annoyed at this war. First world problems
Patriot Missiles are at the moment more important than launchers ... Launches are useless without missiles ... they do have launchers ;)
I think you're overthinking the scholtz taurus issue. He's long shown himself to be cowardly claiming that he doesn't want to escalate things.
Scholz has to deal with a strong and growing threat from the pro-Russian right-wing in Germany, which is strongly opposed to more German aid to Ukraine. If his government coalition falls, all German aid to Ukraine could be put in jeopardy.
Going to at some point get back to supplying 100s of tanks
Taurus would take longer than an hour to strike Russian nuke silos
The range of Taurus is about 400 miles,. German aircraft would have to fly a few hundred miles from its base to get anywhere near Russian silos
By the time they got there, the nukes would be on their way
Sholz is not being honest
Germany has 100s of Taurus missles but not enough aircraft to launch an effective first strike
Giving 20 to Ukraine would make no difference to a German preemptive strike
Ukraine in collaboration with ex nato officials need Organize a structure with valid projects to create a LEGION with ONLY ex-NATO professionals and who are used for missions for which they are trained such as night assaults. But then Ukraine must be able to consolidate and not lose night work Too many former NATO members say that at night they liberate settlements and work behind the line but then during the day the work is wasted by not knowing how to maintain the night's earnings
JP Torus.. 300km range, even air launched given an interdiction strike they are still well short in range to hit fixed Silos in Russia. Torus is great missile for hitting bunkers and strategic targets but it actually quite a short range for hitting inside Russia
Greece and Spain can easily hand over 1 Patriot system each to Ukraine.......
Ukraine needs a new army. I don’t think NATO can provide them with that.
Commented on this at length on yesterdays front line video. The demographics aren’t there.
Russia needs a new army too, and I don't think their reluctant civilian conscripts can provide them with that either.

For all the talk of "war footing"
There is still ambiguity and hesitancy in supplying Ukraine
The talk of years isn't an option for Ukraine, they haven't the manpower
If there isn't success on the battlefield soon, Ukraine will fail
It's all about numbers
This summer needs some massive success for Ukraine and crushing blows for Russia

"Germany are," "Russia are." why are these singular nations referred to in a plural sense? I know I don't speak the queen's English (now king's English?), but I must be missing something.
So this is something I have thought about quite a lot previously. There is the technical grammatical use versus an informal use that can come out of an implication from the use of the word. Quite often when we are talking about a team or a group of people, we end up using the plural. Germany have just beaten England 3-0 is quite often the way it is phrased because it's representing the group of players.
It's this kind of thinking with the country as a whole in other contexts. Yes it is a single country but it represents a collective, with many people being implied in the sentence.
Jake Broe gave you the answer to the Taurus problem. You should have listened to him. Very few of Russia's arsenal are in bunkers. Most are in subs, air, trains, and a lot in trucks. The trucks are in unhardened bunkers. You're playing to Schultz's excuses.
I explicitly discussed his rationale. You should have listened to me.

About Germany having Taurus for some strategics reason...
1. Germany is a nuclear state. It has U.S. nukes on it's own territory with own means of deployment;
2. There are no strategic nuclear bunkers in RU Taurus could possibly reach with its tiny range (see U.S. ALCM and Tomahawk ranges needed for such action and stealth aircraft to bring them-in);
3. Most RU missiles with warheads are on wheeled launchers anyway;
4. I'd love to see Germans preemptively striking RU nuclear deterrent... 🙄

The UK and US, both signees of the Budapest memorandum, are at the bottom of Ukrainian support. That's a kind of disgusting!
Well said
Good point, but let the blame be put where it belongs, on Russia, who also signed
The UK and US are helping in the fight, while others are just trolling for russia. They know who they are ......
Isn’t there other ways to get hold of Taurus missiles? Directly from the manufacturer? From Spain, Sweden or South Korea?
Shooting Taurus missiles at ICBM silos is very iffy. What is meant is to target the mobile nuclear systems.
I don't see how Taurus can play a role in a nuclear war, it's range is only 500 km
Sophia is wrong here Taurus missiles are air to ground and wouldn't be used to defend nuclear sites. ground to air would i.e. air defense and even if ground targets are needing to be struck they would be out of the range of Taurus anyway. ballistic missiles would be needed for actual deep strikes on launch sites.
The whole Taurus as a nuclear counter-strike theory is a bit iffy.....
1) This implies that Germany is going to carry out a 'pre-nuclear' first strike. There is no point in carrying out a strike on empty bunkers and silos. However attacking Russia's nuclear deterrent assets is considered a 'red line' under Russian military docterine and would trigger a nuclear strike against Germany.
2) Most of Russia's land-based ICBM's are based in missile silo fields around the southern Urals and in the Russian Far east. That is over 2000km+ from the German border. That is well beyond the range of Germany's strike capabilty.
3) Germany currently has no stealth aircraft and would struggle to 'deliver' Taurus to a target more than 500km inside Russia, thus leaving most of Russia's nuclear forces untouched. It will have F-35 in the future but operational deployment is years away.
So Taurus is not a 'counter-nuclear strike' weapon.
However I will concede that Taurus does threaten Russian short and medium range nuclear assets in western Russia and probably more importantly Russian command and control elements in western Russia, especially any 'Putin Bunkers' around Moscow.
However if Russia chose to strike Germany with nukes then most of German's military airfields would be vapourised in the first wave of strikes. So Taurus becomes a moot point then.
To me this is more abou Scholz thinking "if we don't provide weapons that can threaten Russia itself and Putin in his bunker then we won't be on the target list if Putin literally pick the 'nuclear option'.
Germany makes the missiles as well that could be argued is why they are keen on Ukraine having so many to fire.
Yepp the answer is Scholz is scared
On your point 1: yes: it is a Pre-emptive-preventive conventional First Strike capability. And France's entire nuclear arsenal constitutes a nuclear pre-emptive-preventive capability. These capabilities are not designed to cross any Red Lines. They are designed to cross them OUT.
On your point 2: your info is about thirty years out of date. The continental and intercontinental ballistic missiles that used to be stationed in Ukraine, have long since moved to the Moskou-St-Petersburg line. And what is more: 600+ Tauruses constitute only Germany's contribution. Germany is not alone in NATO. Taurus is designed to go after the liquid-fueled two-stage ICBMs.
On your point 3: Taurus is carried by two old types of jet: the Panavia Tornado, and (wait for it ... ) the DDR Legacy German Mig 29. Taurus cannot be contained within the internal bomb bay of the F35. It has to be mounted externally, so there goes your stealth. the F-35 cannot go faster than mach 1.3, when laden with Taurus. The Panavia Tornado with its variable geometry wings can clock over Mach 2.0. And what is more stealth than a Soviet-designed and German re-engineered DDR legacy Mig 29 moving through Russian Federation Air space?
I'm Belgian. Are you American, by any chance?
Abrams and other tanks should not be used as they have been. in Penny Packets, everyone knows this. They should be used in a breakout where they don't encounter large numbers of drones. In addition, they should have drone protection of all types. America is not prepared for WWIII. I still have the question, "What amount of equipment will it take to arm Ukraine fully" I expect that will include small arms (what they are currently using), SAWs, mortars and ammunition, artillery and ammunition, tanks and their ammunition and drones (plus ammo).
