  • Professor Wole Soyinka is known to be an activist who expressed himself through literary artworks and even received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1986.
Now, he is 90 years old and President Bola Tinubu has renamed the National Arts Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos, after him.
According to the President, Soyinka is one Nigerian whose influence transcends the country’s space and who inspires people around the world, explaining that since his youth, he has been a vocal critic of oppression and injustice wherever it exists, from apartheid in South Africa to racism in the United States

The greatest challenge we have, about the youths, is the lack of their desire, to learn, thinking they know. Can you even imagine their comments, on this issue been discussed & these are people, that wants to rule Nigeria. What came out, of some of them, been absolved, into governance?

I'm may not be as educated as some of you but i know for sure when one is right or wrong. Being wrong doesn't take away his accolades but the fact remains that he's wrong this time around. He didn't behave like an elder statesman. After one year, he's yet to say anything on Tinubu's administration like he did on previous administrations before him

Just likes a best student in a class you want to deny him of his prize because you dislike what he did somewhere else.Professor Wole Soyinka is a treasure not only Nigeria but in Africa,we should be proud to have him with us as a Nobel laureate,a feat that would take some people years to accomplish

Wole Soyinka and all Tinubu praise singers are disappointment to honesty and integrity.
It's disheartening to see Wole Soyinka condescending from Nobel Laureate to Professor Gbajue.
Wole Soyinka just because of financial and political patronage turned to a praise- singer to Tinubu a drug baron and an American ex- drug convict.
Wole Soyinka's days are numbered on earth and that's why he is so desperate to acquire ill gotten wealth from Tinubu a drug pusher and an ex- drug convict.

I do not blame the youth or the so call Obidients but our system who wasted them by not giving them proper education and high level of intellectual development. Yes of course they have not read many of Soyinka's works neither his antecedents. Even those of us i will call fringe generation who tasted few good things in education before the total collapse only have a glimpse of the Man Soyinka the great so you can understand why these young men and women would never see the golden pearl in Soyinka but a "mere gold-like painted spoon". Until we go back to build solid snd functional education for pur young ones the succeeding generation would even not care to know when was Nigeria gain independence.

We know 'has been professor Gbajue' and we don't care much about him.
There are countries whose nationals get at least 2 Nobel prizes EVERY YEAR in impactful aspects of life that moves the entire world forward and you don't see these laureates making as much noise.
I live not too far from 2 Nobel peace prize holders in Chemistry and Physics and as brilliant as these guys are you hardly ever seen them on the pages of newspapers or on TV dragging respect with the younger generation. .
Let this has-been Aparo hunter go and sit down quietly somewhere in the back. Brilliance doesn't drag to be recognized or respected.. Neither is it shoved down people's throats. The relevance of his 1986 award doesn't matter in today's world. We have other more impactful laureates in Literature than Prof Gbajue' today and we don't see them in their countries dragging with their younger generation. The man is egotistical.
Who has he mentored? How many of his mentees have got Nobel prizes? What foundation has he laid for Nigeria to benefit from after he dies in the next 20 yrs?
I understand if his people regard him as a deity. I am not into deity worship so waive me from the required stupidity of submitting to his arrogance and pride.
The fact is Professor Gbajue was yesterday's brilliant nobel laureate and today's ignorant political pundit. Obasanjo summarised the man's contribution to politics WELL.

Most of the people who criticize him now acknowledge and respect his achivements and many were his students in their way of thinking and some mebers of the confraternity that he startreted, the Pyrates! But he mis-spoke and that is why he was challenged and taken to task by the youths. This man questions people's knowledge of the history of Nigeria. His and our generation who read and know the history of Nigeria have left a country that is progressively dysfunctional and discriminatory for the youths of today. Prof. Soyinka questioned the status quo all his life almost to a treasonable point and we werre happy he did. We are in an age that he prayed and worked for, an age where anyone can be questioned. He mis-spoke and has been selective in a suspected tribal way at a time wherre the masses are groaning under very heavy weights. He took Jonathan to task at a time Nigeria was far beter, but he has not spoken now in these killing times because Tinubu is his friend? The Obidients are Nigerian youths who are ready to work for change. They took the name of a man who spoke to their experience but does not control what they think. They are youths who for the first time are coalescing across tribal lines agianst the chronic robbing of their destinies by the generation of the guest on this program. From the way he is speaking, he does not know the pain the youths are feeling. Our youths are all over the world, and doing well. many of them are the Obedients. No matter what, his generation are passing away, we hope they will be wise not to destroy their legacies with biased expressions.

. . .Omatseye should stop blaiming the younger generation for not reading more of Wole Soyinka's writings because the younger generation are not interested in those wrtings rather they are more interested in fantastic developments and advancements in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This so-called "indomie"generation is also not interested in essays, poetry, stage plays etc. Never must we blaim this generation for lack of interest in "history" as an important, subject, rather blaim the military that removed history as a subject from Nigerian school curriculum. I sincerely respect Professor Wole Soyinka for being an extraordinary expert in his chosen field of literature; he is just unique and Nigerians within and in DIASPORA are proud of him.
