So I'm seeing all these videos of 1003, and I can't help but wonder how they got away with running 1003 on a passenger mainline without being PTC or LeaPTC equipped. Is PTC not required on those lines or something? Either way, some beautiful footage you got. Thanks for sharing it with us!
Thank you! From what I was told that they were allowed to run the engine without PTC on the main and they were restricted to to a certain speed and they had to call out where they were.
i like this monster, really
You are lucky to have a commuter rail like Metra who does these special events. LIRR and metro north never do this
Thats unfortunate :(
I think it has something to do with management with railroads but I'm no expert. But it is a guess
LIRR owns its own tracks though, Metra wishes, also what steam locomotive that operates nearby could actually operate here
Because there are no mainline engines for that purpose
Very nice to see 1003 on the mainline again! Will they be doing this again next year?
Don't know. Hope so. It's fun to see mainline steam

They missed the opportunity for the loco to pull revenue 😂
The fine folks of Glenview won't have to worry about mosquitoes for a while.
