    It is beautiful, the water, the sailboats, the film. It is something to see so many beautiful old sailboats out in such an area. We NEVER see such a thing here - just people zipping along with little outboard fishing boats not using the little waterways for a relaxing sail.
    I came across your videos while searching how to sail a dinghy. I just picked up my first sailboat - 11 sailing dinghy and know I know where I am going to sail it. The little back water sloughs. Thanks - great ideas!

    I've watched many of your videos now and it finally struck me that what you are doing is introducing lots of folks to a side of England few would ever see. And those wonderful wooden boats sailing along your narrow rivers! We have nothing like it at least in this part of the US of A. Thankyou!

    Another nice river exploration video. I enjoyed seeing the variety of small boats, and especially liked seeing them quietly sail so peacefully.

    Okay, fine. You've got all the history. But, we've got stuff too, you know. Big stuff. Big shiny stuff. Like, the best, biggest, shiniest... oh, who am I kidding. You've got the Norfolk Broads. Dammit, Dylan! So beautiful. And beautifully presented in this series. Well done, sir!

    Two things that got me..... One. Comming to a bend in the river and seeing the sails of a Norfolk Wherry. Two. After a week on the Broads getting in the car to go home and felt like we was travelling at 60 mph when in fact we were travelling at 30 mph. For a week life slowed right down... Body Batteries fully charged..... wonderful. 😁

    I am so jealous of those river house dwellers. I am watching this one again. who would want to live on the ocean if they could live on a river that could be sailed with a boathouse that provided instant sailing and a passing view one could never tire of?

    Lovely video. I love the broads. I'm getting the itch to go back but don't know anyone to go back with. I miss the Lady class of yachts that used to be at Herbert Woods, they were the days, been on Find lady, Fair Lady, Perfect Lady and a few more but they all seem to be gone now. :-(

      Try Eastwood Whelpton at Upton. Their yachts are even better than the Ladies which we've had in the 60s. Windjammer is my absolute favourite & we clocked her at 8mph on a sat nav.

    You need light weight sheets for that sort of sailing. The constant cycle of fill and collapse would be controlled if that heavy block and sheets were replaced.

    I,m a commercial fisherman on englands east coast with many many sea miles under my belt but never done any sailing and really fancy it, is it hard to learn? Love boats love travelling and love the idea of mosying around some of these wonderful places you show on something i can sleep on.

    • @KeepTurningLeft

      +Ian Jackson it is dead easy - just buy an 18 footer with a reliable outboard - motor upwind, unfurl the jib sand sail down windwind
      repeat until comfortable - after that everything will fall into place
      lots of eejits sail. Fishermen have an acronym for us... WAFIs.
      The peace and quiet of sailing is marvelous and to see that invisible silent physics creating drive out of thin air is a wonderful thing.
      Buy a sailing boat - quickly - time is of the essence
      boatsandoutboards is the place to look - dayboats and trailer sailers.

      +KeepTurningLeft thankyou, i,m quite excited about a very well equipped iona 23 with a vire 7 inboard and its own purpose made trailer ive seen for sale, but what do i know about sailing boats i catch seafood for a living! Haha

    • @KeepTurningLeft
      @KeepTurningLeft  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      the inboard sounds like a challenge - how old is it?
      does the boat fall over when the tide goes out?
      what are you going to tow it with?

    • @jacko74fisher70
      @jacko74fisher70 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +KeepTurningLeft dont know how old the engine is but its 2 stroke petrol, i,m fairly good with the spanners so engines dont scare me albeit ive never heard of this type, ive got a 4x4 pick-up to tow with and yes its a single keel so will fall over on a tidal mooring, think i,ll bow to your knowledge and go for something smaller, shame cos the living space inside was excellent and seemed "good to go" are charts for the broads and inland waterways readily available? Cheers, ian.

    • @KeepTurningLeft
      @KeepTurningLeft  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      best avoid a vire
      westerly Nimrod or something similar is the boat for you
      big cockpit, excellent outboard access, sails with either sail or both, room for one/maybe two to hide from the rain
      even if you have a bigg tow car - l;aunching a big boat is a right effort

    October 2018. Just back from a week’s single handed Sailing/Camping on a Hunters Half Decker from Ludham. A Magical week, weather and encounters with sailors who taught me much about tacking in 15ft of river with adverse wind and tide. Weather, days, mornings, dusk, just as we see here. Plus a clear night to spot Mars, the god of war.

      KeepTurningLeft My mother's father's family are from Lowestoft she spent some time on the Broads as a girl. And though I have never been it does look oddly familiar. I am going to show her the video on their big smart TV as soon as I can. Perhaps one day I will go to have a look see myself. Seen a couple of your videos, they nearly make me missing sailing! :

    Well,don't film at first.Have a flashlight or torch as they call it over there and go out,its totally beautiful,no other boats,just the river or bay and the stars.I am crazy sometimes when I'd take the boat out the Manasquan Inlet in New Jersey,out in the ocean for a few kilometers and sail back in under sail.I was the King of the world.
