    The Passport was truly a masterpiece of a phone. I hated the size at first but after some time I learned to obsess over it. It was definitely a phone I loved using and the keyboard was flawless.

    I left my KEYone for a note9 on Christmas 2018 . This was the first time I did not have a BlackBerry. I missed my keyboard everyday and even sideload BlackBerrys Virtual did not cut it. A month ago at work I broke my Note 9 and had to switch back to my KEYone while it was getting fixed and I've decided that I will not leave the keyboard again. It's easier to type on, its more accurate and its far more productive. Can't wait to see what Onward Mobility has to offer been working saving up to get it.

    Thank you for pointing out about the precision and accuracy! People just don't get it, it's not about the speed..Dave2D made a video sometime ago, which was all about how typing on physical keys on key2 wasn't as fast as typing on glass... that was so dumb..of course it's slower.

      I actually type a lot slower on touchscreen. I really hated it when I had to buy the slab because no physical store carried Blackberry anymore. Gosh! While on physical keyboard, I could even type while almost asleep and still no typo, though the content was meaningless, of course. Haha...

    • @TheCarrion7

      @@eunikegloria8170 me too tbh, but i guess some people get really good on glass and there is less resistance to it so they can be faster. But still, it's very uncomfortable for me and I make a billion mistakes. The satisfaction I get by pressing on real keys has no equal on glass, although The virtual keyboard on my BlackBerry leap was amazing, had perfect dual language integration and the feedback was perfect. Never found a better one than the bb10 one.

    The one thing I've always loved about my key 2 is that programmable keyboard. I've always said, often while someone is standing there laughing at me, that the blackberry has the most customisation of any phone out there. I recently put my SIM in my key 2, I've been using my Note 10 +for the last year, and I was a little disappointed to see how it had aged. It was laggy to say the least. Let's hope this year's model really surprises the market.

    The touch sensitive part is a very well-thought bonus to it. It's a scroll wheel and track point in one! It's much easier to place a cursor in a right place when you need to add something in text. It eliminates accidental clicks, likes or shares in social apps. Additional time savior.

    Physical keyboard is also invaluable when typing unix/linux commands via ssh. You'll go bats when you have to keep switching between input modes (with a virtual keyboard) to get to special characters rather then just using shift and symbol (with a physical keyboard) to type what you want to type and also not risk to something "smart" trying to correct the seemingly glibberish which are actually correct commands.

    Very good points here, it drives me crazy so many people have this "I don't want X, therefore *nobody* wants X" mentality. Same thing with the headphone jack and SD card slot.
    Also, speaking of the older BBs, I've recently brought my Q10 back as my main device (after upgrading in 2017) and it surprises me how nice it is, given its age. I'm not even trying to run modern apps on it, but as a purely email/text/phone/organizer device I think it might actually do it better than my more modern Key2le. Of course, I do need to be able to run modern apps, so I will be switching back to the key2le. And I'm not knocking the key2le, it definitely has the better keyboard, and the bigger screen is pretty much essential for those modern apps.

    Finally a video that explains why physical keyboards are better in some instances and still has a place in the world, touchscreen frustrates me so much with how easy it is to hit the wrong thing and do something you didn't intend and type the wrong words. I can type faster with keys and also make less mistakes too. I held off on switching to a touchscreen phone for as long as I could and my first full touchscreen phone was purchased in 2015 due to not liking touchscreen but there isn't much choice here in New Zealand now, if only I could afford a Blackberry a couple years back it would be so good right now. I just hope Onward Mobility releases some sort of update soon!

    Excellent Video about the BB Key2 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Well said and very well demonstrated too. The great thing about this fantastic vid is that it's only just a smidgen of the very many perks - The Key2 has even got the quick side shortcut key that can be assigned to anything - I use mine to control the lights in my home before getting some shuteye. The Key2 is definitely an underrated phone and with a great screen size for all apps and movie watching. I even use mine comfortably with VR glasses so it completely disproves the notion by some people of the screen being inadequate or too small. Key2 all the way and looking forward to what BB/ Onward have on the way for us too 🤩👍

    One excellent use of the physical keyboard which you missed mentioning is the remote access to a computer, which offers an outstanding advantage over an on-screen keyboard, that pretty much ruins the experience when typing is needed. Try it if you haven't. Chrome Remote Desktop is my preferred method, but there're many services which allow connecting to a pc from a phone. I operate systems that work within local networks and have to remote access several pc's quite frequently. No phone on the market can beat the 'old' Key2 on this regard.

    The BlackBerry Passport was the best phone I've ever used. The hub was amazing for keeping organized while connected; and with the physical keyboard I could type emails, blog posts, handle remote support, and so much more right from my phone. Typing with two thumbs was faster and more accurate than anything I have ever used to this day. It was the closest thing I ever had to a PC replacement in my pocket.

    Love your channel. I daily my White Passport because BB10 is a work horse. Emails, text, phone calls, Calendar, Calulator, Music, Video, Reminder, "actual " file folder system, gestures "peek and flow", the HUB, PKB (hot keys, swipe to delete). Nothing beats it for work. Again this is not a toy you give your kids. It's a BIG boy tool. By the way, all the applications I mentioned are in house applications developed by BlackBerry, no 3rd party crap.
    What really puzzles me for many years is why do Android and iOS still use the cascading tiles? It makes no sense especially with the large real estate of the displays, that is "only" has to show one app at a time. BB10 swipe up gesture let's you show all the open apps, it's by far the most effective and efficient way of multitasking. For a low spec machine by today's standards, it handles 8x apps with ease. Again 8x apps on one screen on 4.5" screen. I try explaining it some people how inefficient their device is compared to mine and they get a stupid look on their face. On a 5" or more display, you should be able to show more that one open app. The way BB10 is optimized for multitasking is still amazing in 2021. I've yet to see the other 2 OS's try that. I'm holding on to my Passport until it BlackBerry officially shuts their services. I will purchase the new 5G BlackBerry this year.
    BlackBerry and PKB for life.
    Keep up the good work on your channel.

    Probably reiterating what many have said in here but I think you have represented the physical keyboard contingent exceedingly well in this video. Great job! I am painfully typing on my Samsung Galaxy Note 10 as it has a bigger screen which I enjoy. I still use my BB (note how blackberry is not automatically predicted here!) Key1 for emails (there is no sim in it, I just hotspot to my Note 10).
    Whichever way it goes there will be a compromise. Whether it's functionality or apps or screen size... let's hope the people that give it a shot with BB this time get the BB handsets back as the flagship market leaders they once were. 🤞Thanks Again. JFQ

Is there a trustworthy on-line store? Seriously, we've seen prices from $490 or so to $2600!! What gives? How do you know the one you're looking at is new or used? One e-bay store had 'em for $790 or so. Does that sound right? How about $1499? Many thanks.

    You mention in your video that BlackBerry "added" the Speed Key. Is the Speed Key property of BlackBerry or was that developed by TCL? How likely - do you think - are we from still having the Speed Key in the forthcoming OnwardMobility BlackBerry-licensed 5G phone?

    • @TechOdyssey
      @TechOdyssey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm unsure of whether the actual design is something that BlackBerry owns, or if it was something developed by TCL under the BBMobile agreement - or if BB is the owner of IP created under the licensing agreement. I think it would be important to bring it over to the new OM phone, but I have zero insight on that.

    • @yvesl2038

      When TCL launched their first phone with the Speed Key they mentioned - if I remember correctly - "we" put a key where any function could be launched from anywhere ("we" can mean TCL alone or TCL & BlackBerry). BTW I love your wish of bringing back the trackpad to the upcoming 5G phone! the trackpad was amazing as one could move the mouse from top to bottom of screen by moving a finger less than 1mm - yes, the screens were smaller back then, but still...).

    the key2 i had that phone for 2 years- loved the speed of the phone, the security with dtek etc, however, wasn't a fan of the keyboard- known issue with the space bar and the accuracy of the typing i felt wasn't very good. Als0 unlike the passport the key2 has a mono speaker no stereo- last the call quality i thought wasn't as good as the passport and thus is reason why i moved back to the passport. Love the ability also on the passport to text large video files on the key2 you have a short snippet of window to send video files. Also- hated that you had to install a 3rd party app such as signal to even text this i feel is egregious

    • @TechOdyssey
      @TechOdyssey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't have any issues with accuracy when it came to typing. My first KEY2 had space bar issues, which was an unfortunate quality control problem with BlackBerry Mobile. Not really sure what you're talking about here with havubf to install a third party app to text with.

    • @safelyanonymous5717
      @safelyanonymous5717 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TechOdyssey didn't you hve to install an app to text? I believe android doesn't support native texting makes the user have to install an app to text (huge thumbs down) the spacebar was an issue with Key2 have heard possible work around was to forcibly press down to unseat it. Never worked for me but I did get over 520.00 for my phone via ebay (mint condition) perhaps my accuracy issue was with the texting app signal's auto correct (settings-fix perhaps)
      Your thoughts on the call quality vs your passport? I also felt the keyboard on the passport was much better made- less plastic rubbery feel

    I say this as someone who's owned many BlackBerries. They were excellent at doing what they do, but what they do is no longer enough. People do understand, they're not wrong. As a messaging tool, a physical keyboard makes sense. It also uses real estate that can only do one thing. As phones transitioned from communication tool to personal computer, a physical keyboard became a hindrance, not a help. I completely understand your passion, believe me I do, but BlackBerry's demise was because they preached to the choir and lectured to everyone else.

      I have a Tudia Merge cover. It is rubberized and very thin. To me, it keeps the phone sleek, but it is easier to type because I have better grip. Then, I have stuck a card wallet on the cover, and then offset it from center to the right, so that I can sort of hold and type with one hand (I'm right-handed, the fingers on my small hands will just barely reach the edge of the card wallet).
