@@vbee_7113 in my opinion yes, its worth knowing that the very least the basics of how both reproductive systems work as well as having a basic understanding of both the male and female body, like i said, it affects half the world, that and one day if you habe a son you can answer the questions he has about is own body, and its always just good information to know, also, hormones dont give anyone a good reason to be an ass, if someone happens to be irritable or moody due to it, they should always apologize and take responsibility for there behavior, both men and women.
When my tummy starts hurting, I get up, I eat a banana, I drink as much water as possible, I eat or take an omega 3 pill, then I take a pain killer pill, I do respiration and I lay on my side because I saw on the internet that it's the best position for it to hurt less. My pain is so strong that I become dizzy and I can't walk and my body starts to get hot and I feel like vomiting sometimes and if it's really bad I get sweats on my face. It goes like this for 1 to 2 hours. So I found tricks to not let it happens. Also sports during the month helps.
Because in our world, women are taught to hide their suffering from the world. It's a taboo subject to talk about menstruation problems in public. Men will often say: ''Then we should be allowed to talk about jerking off in the public too!'' But I assume that most men don't lose blood for multiple days through their genitals paired with a significant drop of hormone levels. (Unless they have some deadly disease)
The rich women isolated themselves in a room and had few contacts until the period was mostly over. In the case of poor women, they just had to stick some cloth down there and carry on although it did obviously affect their amount of acitivities.
They also had lots of layers of petticoats (no fabric up in between the legs until the 1800's I think) which acted as protection for their dresses and furniture etc. I imagine though that some working women who did not have the option of being still all day, would have some kind of loin cloth on if they where bleeding heavily and the skirts and stockings wasn't enough.
That expression isn't that old though, is it? Genuinely asking! :P Also, to add to the answers, women were pregnant a lot more back in the days before the widespread use of and access to any working contraceptives (with the exception of some religious and social groups that used family planning or those who were celibate etc.). There has always been a wide variety of contraceptive methods throughout the ages and some of them where actually quite effective as such, but most were just superstitious nonsense (like "put this plant under your bed" sort of thing). If you were rich, the odds of having access to the stuff that really worked were generally higher. But even the richest of women used to give birth to a lot more children on average than we do today. Those figures dropped only recently. So pregnancy did in fact use to have quite a big affect on the amount of time a woman spent being on her period. At least for sexually active women.
“All the fuss over that?” ...Uh, yeah, that’s what I ask my body every period, too. It’s really inconvenient to have to suffer soreness, bloating, hormones, nausea, breakouts, and much more over a bit of blood loss, ya know?
Now I don’t expect men to know everything about periods, but I would expect them to know at least the basic fact about how bad cramps are and how much periods effect our daily lives. Seriously, period cramps and heart attacks have the same level of pain and it’s proven. PS: Luckily for me, the dudes in my class are actually mature over these things, so I don’t have much of a problem. They even help us out sometimes. God bless them
I totally agree, videos on TH-cam or TV advertising do not portray the realistic part of being on a period! The mood swings, tiredness, cramps, pain, constantly having to change a pad, restrictions of what to wear, white is forbidden, some embarrassing days, bloating, being moody!!!!! I can go on. MEN HAVE NO IDEA. BECAUSE APPARENTLY it's taboo to talk about it.
I totally agree with you, my friend and her sister told me about their periods in detail. They used terminology I did not understand until I googled it a few days later, my friend also showed me her "blood" deposit in the toilet and the used"pad". They both insisted that was what is referred to as a "light" period...when there is not too much blood, as they both mentioned the so called "heavy" period and smiled when they talked about the amounts of blood during one of those! The other symptoms that come along with the blood lose were described as well. All I know is that day I found out how fortunate I am, having been born a male...the worst I have to look forward to is passing gas and belching, which are not my favorite activities. I'm just REALLY happy I'm a guy, so very happy...I don't know what I would have done if I was a woman, I doubt I would have been able to deal with any of this...it's just not for me, none of it.
I never understood why people think that being taught about periods and other female things by men is weird. I have a friend with a single Dad and she learned a lot of these things from him. There’s honestly nothing wrong with it?
I'm a heavy bleeder. Too much blood, I hate it. And the cramps, ugh. Guys have no idea how easy they have it. I also have one day during my period time where I have to pee constantly, and one day when I have to fart like every three minutes (and you can't fart in public places)....thank you, Uterine muscles. :-( Kudos to myself, and all the women that have to deal with this, plus go to work, school, or do whatever life throws at them!
@@nakkadu nope, not at all. Since guys have never experienced periods they don’t get to decide wether or not it’s: painful, infuriating, or just plain annoying. You don’t see me walking around saying getting kicked in the nuts isn’t that bad, I don’t say this because I have never experienced it. It annoyed me when the guy said “all that fuss over that?” Because he wouldn’t know, nor will he ever. Also like take a joke man 😂
L5940 I don't think that's what they meant. I think it's more because of the other content BBC3 is producing on TH-cam. I realised how similar they were becoming ages ago when I seen BBC3 did videos about "What not to say to a Muslim" or "what not to say to someone with Down's syndrome" - it's good content, it just isn't original and extremely similar to Buzzfeed.
L5940 It's more the context "We're living in the age of equality, but how much do men really know about periods?" Why should the general population of men know about female biology? And why take the narrative, that if a man doesn't know then he's sexist...
Basically instead of pushing the tampon up yourself the applicator does it for you. I don't see the appeal personally I prefer non applicators (cheaper too).
Also - She was demonstrating the cup. She said all the blood gathers in there. What she means is that the blood is collected in the cup for a duration of 6-12 hours - *DEPENDING* upon menstrual flow and the size of the menstrual cup. Menstrual cups do have to be emptied consistently over the duration of a menstrual cycle. There are different sized menstrual cups for light to heavy flow. Most period products accommodate light to heavy flow.
as a man, there's nothing i need to know about periods, all i need to know is that the playground is closed, let me know when you're reopened for business. 🙄
@@nakkadu your comment seems stupid because you don't know either about having a period. He was saying "all thst fuss over just that blood" so why can't I say when he gets kicked in the nuts, "all that fuss over that" you think we are being dramatic then what about you lot?
@@fayeduncan9842 But you claimed that being kicked in the nuts wouldn't be equivalent to half the pain of a period.....you clearly can't know that so you're just chatting shit.
@Rc 118 123 The fact that there are always things that men can't understand about women and vice versa....it's true that men don't know how bad it is to have periods....but also women don't know what it's like to me a man so it works both ways
Fuggin hate the applicators - it put me off using tampons for Years - literally the first decade of my period. I got it at 11, didn't use tampons until I was 21. The non applicator just works for me. Big whoop, just wash your hands after - you'll live.
Also important to wash your hands before inserting it! In my country (Sweden) the applicator thing basically doesn't exist... Although I do think I've seen some new brands recently on the shelves which have them. But since I never use tampons anymore (because I have a coil and don't really bleed at all) I haven't bought any for ages and so I'm not too up to date with the Swedish tampon market. X)
Kristin Torres Lol they're a good idea, they're good for the environment and all, but they're just too fussy and painful and literally impossible for a lot of us.
That sounds slightly sexist. Reverse the sexes and get rid of the pms part....... So men owe you something when your body is going through a biological natural function. Gata love the sound of modern equality.
Grease Dog Lol if my man had to go through what I go through every month I would do anything to make him feel better without question, and I know for a fact the same goes for literally almost every other woman, so that is clearly not the case.
I'm a little annoyed that it isn't further explained that it's "average" and everyone is different. Some have heavier period flows than others. Menstruation isn't the same for everyone. That includes symptoms, as well.
It all sounds so uncomfortable. Walking around with someone stuck inside you just to stop you from leaving a trail of blood everywhere you go. Man it must suck to be a woman sometimes
It's either you put something in there or you use a pad. A pad has increased risk of leaking but its safe to use for longer amounts of time. Women could literally die if they leave a menstrual cup/tampon inside them for too long because of bacteria. So yes, it is extremely uncomfortable and (for ~85% of women) painful.
I totally agree with you, my friend and her sister told me about their periods in detail. All that sympathy over that?? I would’ve mushed both of them. I wish they could experience the cramps, bloating, moodiness, horrible breakouts, diarrhea, and everything else that comes along with it
"All that sympathy for that." Well, they do seem to have a better idea of why and how it happens than some men do over here in the states. Some men here think it is voluntary and that women use these products so they can willfully soil themselves. But the real issue is not the blood itself. Some symptoms such as pain and fatigue can be debilitating. And these vary from woman to woman. Some barely notice they have a period, some can't leave their beds.
1:02 Oh come on, are you serious i mean that is still a lot of blood. And it isn't just the blood its terribly painful what seems like endless cramps, headaches, excrutiating back pains, constipation and diarrhea, bloating, feeling nauseos, always feeling exhausted etc. I could literally go on for days.
If we only could control the pms and the hormones. It's not just pain and blood. Oh dear I WISH it was only pain and blood. PMS is the worst. I hate myself in that time of the month. I am on the pill, the only pill that controls my period good, but the side affects are the worst. Please, just understand...
Hahaha we’re not crying cause we lost some blood. We’re complaining because to squeeze it out takes 4-7 days of PAAAAAIN. And headaches. And nausea. And tears.
In addition to blood, there are other fluids contained in the lining of the uterus that would support and nourish an egg. All the fluid adds to the flow which in total ends up being a lot more liquid than just actual blood. I would say the middle amount is more realistic. Some women pass out because of the heavy flow. Some women require wearing a tampon and a pad at the same time. It can be traumatizing for young girls, and age 8 is now a typical age for menstration to begin, and the age is continuing to decrease for unknown reasons.
i don't really know why people who don't have periods should know about it in detail but obviously being ignorant about it is something that shouldn't exist anymore. i was taught about it in high school but our sex ed was pretty basic and limited to just biology. also there are girls who don't menstruate and guys who do so they could use different language
Yea... Biological guys don't menstruate because they don't have a uturus... If you mean trans-guys, they take male hormones and this prevents periods (although it also shortens their lifespan according to studies). If you mean intersex ''guys'', they might menstruate but most intersex people don't have a working junk and working uturus at the same time/ take male hormones.
trans guys i'm pretty sure still menstruate though there might be a point when it stops altogether idk. was just saying it wasn't inclusive of trans and nb folk
flower edit: If you are on hormones as a trans man, it will stop menstruation at a certain point (not immediately though, changing hormone levels and the effect they have on the body can take a while for the body to adjust to). If a transgender child who is female but wants to become male takes puberty blockers the uterus might never prepare itself for a possible fertilisation of an egg once and thus, the transgender child will not menstruate. I understand that you were not trying to be offensive, but try to look up some more information about the subject next time. ;) I, for once, am perfectly happy with the BBC calling them girls who menstruate, it would become unimaginably confusing if they stopped doing that in such a videoreport.
ALL THAT FUSS FOR THAT!!!!!!!! that's it I'm gonna make him bleed an attire 5 pints worth. Plus I disagree with that "small" amount anyway, I'm convinced I bleed the pint amount.
It creates a thickened uterine wall full of nutrients for that purpose. In order to keep the environment fresh and healthy it will shed it and rebuild it. (Kind of like eating an older sandwich vs. a new sandwich). A healthy uterus lining makes it easier for zygotes (egg/sperm fusion) to attach and grow. Another thing that you may not know is that the egg will release exactly 14 days before the start of your period! Upon ovulation, you have 24 hours for the egg to be out to get pregnant. 4 days before this is the maximum amount of time sperm can live inside the uterus, but for some reason we act like women can get pregnant at any point in their cycles. It’s really only ovulation and those few days, not all the time.
You lose a lot more fluid than that, that's just how much of it is blood. There's a lot of other bodily fluids mixed in there too. Kind of misleading to suggest blood is all that comes out.
"Around every 28 days an egg is released and at the same time a lining forms in the womb" This is not true for the egg being released but women get a period roughly every 28 days, and the egg is released around the 14th day after the first day of the last period. OR 14 days before the beginning of the next period.
"Sympathy for all of that" yo like I've only had one girlfriend and I have an idea that the pain is damn excruciating and uncomfortable. It's like the uterus is shredding itself up. How tf are these grown as men who are married not realising that tf
I actually lose more than a shot glass. I know because I use a diva cup. But the amount is not really my issue. I throw up, cramp (specifically in my butthole), feel gross, etc. And I won’t even talk about how I also experience symptoms when ovulating.
This looks suspiciously edited to make men look bit foolish. Why would a man need to know how to fit a tampon or cup? Understanding the menstrual cycle, fine. But as for the mechanics, knowing what tampons to buy the mrs if she asks should be enough.
I realise it is not serious but the serious content was not what i was commenting on. If you see, my point was that the editing was suspicious and then i gave an opinion about the topic. Maybe it is in fact you who are taking the comment thread too seriously and should lighten up.
TheMsPowers that is the beauty of opinions. I can express my thoughts about the video. You dont have to agree. But you are misinterpreting my feelings about video editing quality and content as having a problem.
discostucrazymunkey Yes, it was made for laughs and to make them look stupid. It makes sense that men are uneducated on these topics, and their stupidity when answering is always funny. It doesn’t mean all men are foolish in general though 😅 and it also doesn’t mean that all men know nothing about female needs.
Measuring equality by how much men know about female anatomy is probably a bad test. Science is boring, most people think we only use 10% of our brains.
At least these men didn't feel shy talking about periods in Indian video when people were asked about periods they were feeling shy some of them were saying it's not a question of asking from a men ... I am not saying that everyone was like these some of them were not like this ...but they were just few I am Indian don't think I hate India...I love my India. But that was just the reality
It's not a stereotype that we get moody before the menstrual; we DO but if a man had to suffer from the physical pain (from the uterus to the toes) the hormone fluctuations, the bloating, breakouts, and the fear of taking a hard piss because the toilet will look like a murder scene and then you have to change your tampon or pad each time. If men had to go through that they'd get it. (I think period jokes are funny, don't get me wrong)
2 cups of green tea or diluted tablespoon of molasses a day. I haven't had PMS in a couple years. The bloating and cramps are actually not healthy. Load up on antioxidants and minerals during that cycle.

"all that sympathy fort that?!" Doesn't hurt any less, buddy...
As soon as I played the video my tummy started hurting GUESS WHO IS NOW ON HER PERIOD 😂😂I swear the BBC is a fricken psychic
Jeez that's a really weird coincidence.
To be fair, plenty of women wouldn't be able to answer the first question correctly, either.
ev4r And plenty wouldn’t know how to use the cup as well. Fuck, I don’t even understand tampons
L5940 And who "teaches women to hide their shame"? I personally think it's simply none of my business what goes on with other people's bodies
well, we definitely know that it is NOT a pint lol
emogirl1994 Well, by elimination we can increase the odds of guessing correctly, lol, we do have that in our favor.
My question is how did women deal with periods in the 1600s ?
The rich women isolated themselves in a room and had few contacts until the period was mostly over. In the case of poor women, they just had to stick some cloth down there and carry on although it did obviously affect their amount of acitivities.
They also had lots of layers of petticoats (no fabric up in between the legs until the 1800's I think) which acted as protection for their dresses and furniture etc. I imagine though that some working women who did not have the option of being still all day, would have some kind of loin cloth on if they where bleeding heavily and the skirts and stockings wasn't enough.
With rags...hence being "on the rag"
That expression isn't that old though, is it? Genuinely asking! :P
Also, to add to the answers, women were pregnant a lot more back in the days before the widespread use of and access to any working contraceptives (with the exception of some religious and social groups that used family planning or those who were celibate etc.).
Poor women used moss...
“All the fuss over that?” ...Uh, yeah, that’s what I ask my body every period, too. It’s really inconvenient to have to suffer soreness, bloating, hormones, nausea, breakouts, and much more over a bit of blood loss, ya know?
And dealing with men who think they know women’s bodies and do things like not let girls go to the bathroom.

And why take the narrative, that if a man doesn't know then he's sexist...
surprisingly this video didnt really take the feminist route which is refreshing
Lol I don't even know how applicator tampons work... I don't even think we have them here...
Basically instead of pushing the tampon up yourself the applicator does it for you. I don't see the appeal personally I prefer non applicators (cheaper too).
That blonde kid knew everything he’s so smart and funny
Also - She was demonstrating the cup. She said all the blood gathers in there. What she means is that the blood is collected in the cup for a duration of 6-12 hours - *DEPENDING* upon menstrual flow and the size of the menstrual cup. Menstrual cups do have to be emptied consistently over the duration of a menstrual cycle. There are different sized menstrual cups for light to heavy flow. Most period products accommodate light to heavy flow.

better than you I mean, you could always go the diaper route, which is totally so much better :/

We do know because you complain about it 24/7 😃
"All that sympathy for that." Well, they do seem to have a better idea of why and how it happens than some men do over here in the states. Some men here think it is voluntary and that women use these products so they can willfully soil themselves. But the real issue is not the blood itself. Some symptoms such as pain and fatigue can be debilitating. And these vary from woman to woman. Some barely notice they have a period, some can't leave their beds.

I'm eating family sized chips and watching videos about periods.
My temporary death is not too far. Pray for me ladies.🥺
i don't really know why people who don't have periods should know about it in detail but obviously being ignorant about it is something that shouldn't exist anymore. i was taught about it in high school but our sex ed was pretty basic and limited to just biology. also there are girls who don't menstruate and guys who do so they could use different language
Are you joking?
I understand that you were not trying to be offensive, but try to look up some more information about the subject next time. ;) I, for once, am perfectly happy with the BBC calling them girls who menstruate, it would become unimaginably confusing if they stopped doing that in such a videoreport.
i was just ignorant. i mean that's pretty much what i thought anyway but i wouldn't know in detail because im a trans girl

The kids walking by be like 👀
Wait so your telling me this whole time I didn’t know that every 28 days my body trynna get pregnant 🤷♀️🤦♀️
I don't about tampons and cups but now I know how to use it even 😃
Good video
You lose a lot more fluid than that, that's just how much of it is blood. There's a lot of other bodily fluids mixed in there too. Kind of misleading to suggest blood is all that comes out.
"Around every 28 days an egg is released and at the same time a lining forms in the womb" This is not true for the egg being released but women get a period roughly every 28 days, and the egg is released around the 14th day after the first day of the last period. OR 14 days before the beginning of the next period.
It actually feels like a beer’s mug amount. No way it’s 2-3oz.
Dad always ....said never trust anything that bleeds for five days but doesn’t die 😬

This looks suspiciously edited to make men look bit foolish. Why would a man need to know how to fit a tampon or cup? Understanding the menstrual cycle, fine. But as for the mechanics, knowing what tampons to buy the mrs if she asks should be enough.

Fiona Hackett i agree but it dosent detract from the point that it is edited to make it look that way
Bruh, tampons deadass are SOOOOO uncomfortable and i always have that fear of... We know what...THE SHOOOCK
Nothing to do with equality
Measuring equality by how much men know about female anatomy is probably a bad test. Science is boring, most people think we only use 10% of our brains.
I think it's Cute for males to learn about Menstrual Cycles !
At least these men didn't feel shy talking about periods in Indian video when people were asked about periods they were feeling shy some of them were saying it's not a question of asking from a men ... Now show them how we deliver babies, get them on those contraction simulators and the process of recovery.
