Clown-O-Mania is such a great game, and definitely an overlooked classic. The music is great, the progression is perfectly balanced, and there is some great pixel art along the way. So good.
I'd say in Cool World they were going by the saying "the pen is mightier than the sword". I've never heard of the kind of race in Combo Racer, but it looks like a very interesting multiplayer mechanic. When I saw the first images of the game I thought "that guy is trying to wrestle that other guy off his bike, action movie-style". But after that I realised that he was in fact just giving him some nice warm hugs. Because on a cold day racing through tunnels and past menhirs, a hug is always welcome. ^^
17:24 that explains all those swastikas in the "Crash Garett" background. I have to admit that I dig how all those portraits look like stills of famous Hollywood actors. Adds to the flavour of adventure movies of the bygone era they were going for.
Shhh... It's the word we don't speak here or the TH-cam dieties get upset, LOL! xD But seriously, yeah, it is what it is. I honestly can't play it and wont make myself, cause I get a mental allergic reaction to parsers. xD
I still want to look for a Ralph Bakshi movie tie-in COOL WORLD for both of my Commodore 64 and Amiga 500. I have never played the game before, but i did see the movie several times, and i still have it on DVD 😺👍.
OMG! From original games? I mean, I get getting it from copies, or whatever, I was a peg-legged one-eyed parrot-loving teen too, but from originals!? That had to be terrible... xD
Never had an Amiga, somehow I missed all that, but had a Commodore and a VIC, I mean I didn't, but my family did. I once bought a copy of "Keefe the thief" because I thought it was for my Windows computer, it was not and once I emulated it, it wasn't really that good. The old 386 couldn't run an emulator so I had to wait to play it. I just watch the Amiga stuff because it lets me know what I missed, because their games look better than what the PC was offering at the time, at least graphically.
You're right. Kinda. Up to more or less 1992-1993 Amiga destroyed PC in fidelity. Games just looked better, sounded amazing and run faster. And then came Doom and more VGA games, and Commodore just didn't know what to do with it, so they kept iterating instead of innovating. And that was the beginning of the end. But late 80s... PC could not compare at all. Not even a little.
I didn't know motorbike and sidecar racing had gone away. I have seen it on TV years ago but I haven't watched any TV except for streaming shows online in over 10 years. My best friend's dad used to ride the sidecar in racing around the U.K. with his brother when he was younger. Crime city looks interesting.
I think that most of us don't watch TV anymore. There's just nothing there, and the idea of having to be there, at the TV when it's running is such an antiquated idea... I mean, when I stream, I can watch what I want and when I want. No reason to set my day around it. xD
@@OldAndNewVideoGames Yeah I hated having to be home at a certain time if I wanted to watch something, I just always missed episodes. And if I saw any re runs, it would be ones I'd already seen. It was better when they started putting stuff into box sets and you could just get the shows you wanted to watch back in the day before internet streaming took off huge.
@@mantovannni Yep, the Internet kinda freed us to live our lives the way we want to, and not according to the little black boxes. I suppose, they're rather large flat panels now. ;)
Cool World, while bad, wasn't really obscure. In fact, it was quite popular mainly thanks to the intro / dancing animation - main reason many people got it PS. Thanks for reminding me of Clownmania - I played it back in the day but never finished it. Maybe in one these days.
Clown-O-Mania is new to me. It looks & sounds from what you’ve said like it’s fun… even if it does star a clown, the murderers of comedy. Action Service is vaguely familiar? I may have played it but if I did it didn’t leave a big impression me? 😕 Yep, I don’t know Crazy Seasons? Looks fun? Your 2 player suggestion has my attention. Now what have you got against Penguin scientists? 😄 I do remember Combo Racer because side car racing was getting some attention on TV at the time & I recall playing 2 player with a mate of mine. Good fun if I remember rightly. I do remember both Cool World & it’s tie-in-game not being good. The film mixed live action & animation in a failed attempt to cash in on the success of Who Framed Roger Rabbit that just didn’t work, largely down to bad writing, the special effects were actually quite good. Terramex dude! Duuuuuuudde!! DUDE!!! I have been trying to remember the name of this game for years! Practically to the point I wondered if I dreamt it? It has a very ‘8bit hastily ported to 16bit’ vibe to it but there’s enough going on to keep you interested, for me anyway, back in the day. Cosmic Spacehead was obviously aimed at kids but I remember it being great fun even when I was a teen. It’s one of the first games I can remember actually looking like a cartoon you play, at least by the standards of the time buuuuuuuut I am thinking of the DOS version, sorry. I have shame now. 😄 Crime City puts the frame of a monitor on your monitor when you use the computer? I have to try this game out just for the monitor-ception. Some definite gems with a good balance of turkeys & meh games, thanks. This was a fun list & *thank you* for highlighting Terramex, I didn’t dream it! 😄
Clown-o-mania is fun! And it's a hidden gem among the vast library of Amiga games. Well worth a look. Talking about gems... Crazy Seasons! Yep, if you like Bubble Bobble or Rodland, it's definitely one not to skip. I think, though don't quote me on that, that Cool World was a successor to Who Framed Rogger Rabbit. A less successful, much worse successor that is. xD Ha! I'm glad that I could help with Terramex! It's a quirky little game, one that I would devour on C64, as back then, on that little beast of a machine, I was eating up all games that feature a very varied gameplay and a lot to do and discover. I got bit more used to it by the time I had an Amiga. I'm actually pretty happy with the selection of titles in the video. Obscure games often tend to be unknown for a reason which can (but doesn't have to result in, let's say, less than fun games), this video was different. Even if not great, most titles were rather fun. :)

I know, and it could easily get an indie remake today to be sold for like $1.99 or even $3.50, and would do quite good! :)

Combo racer seems really familiar, yet I can not possibly say whether I actually played it back in the day.
It's not bad with a friend. So, maybe it's one of those games you only played when there was someone else around?
4:58 penguin scientists were done in Penguins of Madagascar, but this game did it first.
And better! I'm guessing, not seen the Madagascar. xD
@@OldAndNewVideoGamesActually, the Penguins of Madagascar are hilarious. They're a bit like a funny A-Team. :D

2:41 ah yes, the ancient forbidden Chinese martial art of ballet.
As opposed to ancient western martial art of nose picking xD
17:18 Metal hurlant. Also known as Iron vomiter.
