I have NEVER had a salon manicure that I didn't have to tweak! So I spent my "manicure" money on supplies and do my own nails at home now! Too funny!
Right?! Why can’t the nail people get it right?! We are both looking at the same thing and SEEING that their is polish on the cuticles 😬😩

I’m exactly the same way!! I do my own nails! Years ago when I was still working (as an RN) I would get silk applied to my nails & usually a French manicure. I had 1 great nail tech. When she left, I stopped getting them done. Now, I always do my own. My fave products are glass nail files, (it took some getting used to) & Zoya & ILNP polish. I use Nailtiques #2 as a base coat & Seche Vite quick dry polish with Zoya “fast drops” to speed up drying.

Girrrrrrrrrrlllll THIS. THIS is so me too! I get you. I'm even the same with the hair salon. I've never had my hair styled the way I like it when I leave the salon. I have to restyle :(

THANK YOU! I finally stopped my nail biting and now my nails grow long and mostly healthy. I have a "psoriasis nail" that has deep ridges and all of my nails sometimes crack a little in the corner and then just peel in weird layers due to psoriasis. Other than that they grow insanely long if I let them and I never do anything with them so they just look janky and gross. My husband doesn't like coloured polish but even he wants me to go get my nails done since they're so long LOL. I'm just going to get the nail buffer and stuff and see if I can manage to do them myself 🙌 Even though one of my hands will definitely turn out terrible 🤣 maybe I'll be able to clean it up to look right. I've only had my nails done a couple times at the salon and I ended up being really annoyed every single time. My friend used to do my nails and she was amazing 😭 spoiled me

I a lot of the same pet peeves from nail salons. I also feel like their tools can’t be sanitized enough and I get paranoid. So I prefer to do my own nails. It’s cheaper and I feel great knowing I can take care of myself haha. This is a really informative video! Thanks for sharing!

Great video, Kate! At first, I didn't think it'll work for me, because my nail plate is small and my hands are child-like, so I prefer nail polishes with thinner brush. But than I bought a nailpolish with a thick brush, almost like the one you are using, and by following your advice my manicure turned out fantastic! Thank you!

I’m so so pick too! I only have one gal who does my toes and my nails exactly how I want them. I have never had to take the file from her and redo them because I will. I apologize for being insane but I can’t help it. But I never have to tell her what color, what shape when to cut and when not too. She is amazing. Best shellac pedi and mani ever. And she’s inexpensive. I hate the salon because they are loud (except my gal) she understands everything I say and I can understand her. I also have learned several times nobody but she is touching my nails or I leave so pissed! I got her via asking friends for referrals and turns out miss Hannah is the shit! If I ever lose her I’ll cry.

Omgosh... you're just like me! I'm so particular I won't go get my nails done in a salon anymore. One of my friends knows I always do my own nails/pedicures, and she said, you should really treat yourself and get a pedicure! I looked at her and said why would I pay $20+ on a pedicure when they won't do it right? I can do better, and save my money!!!! Yes I buy nail supplies, but I'm spending less and getting great quality pedicures/manicures. I always get compliments on my hands and toes, and people are always surprised that I do them myself. I've also been told that I'm a liar, and that I get them done somewhere because they look too good. 😊 A tip, when you file straight across, file in one direction the whole time, because when you file back and forth, it actually damages your nails and breaks the nail itself on a microscopic level. Other than that, I loved your tips, and we have the same nail shape preference lol! 😉❤️
Right?! Exactly! And yes, I’ve always heard that about filing in one direction, but I’ve found it makes no difference on my nails and it’s easier to file both ways 😆😬

I didn't!... and basically it's bc I usually only use the Essie Gel Couture now... But I could still do a video!
How long should you wait in between coats? Mine always feel dry and I'll wait for hours and then go to bed and wake up with texture from the sheets and smudges...

Must be genetics! I don't do much to try to make them "Strong"... but they are!

What Kate Finds Yes, I saw it on their FB page and in some beauty new blogs. Stores may have old stock still, but all new polishes will have the better brush!

My worst pedicure was my most expensive one!! I was 9 months pregnant & my husband treated me. It took SO LONG & she didn’t even scrub the bottom of my feet. I became so uncomfortable I just wanted to get out of there!

Polish adheres less to shiny nails. That shine side is if you are leaving your nails without polish and just want them to look taken care of. Never ever apply polish to shiny nails.

I made a manicurist cry because she wasn't listening to me and I took the nail clippers off her cart so she couldn't trim my thumb nails so short!
I would rather not even have my nails done, than go get them done. Same reasons as you. Thought it was just me.
It's good to know we're not alone in that opinion! Literally just finished painting my nails too! ha!
Nail techs always make my nails too straight and square and I prefer a slightly pointed oval. We need to trade nail salons, lol.
