This was wildly entertaining. Maybe Henry Cavill should be the next Bond? What was your reaction? What did we miss?

The Man from U.N.C.L.E was originally a tv show from 1964 to 1968 on NBC. Napoleon Solo was definitely intended to be an American version of James Bond. It was part of the spy thriller trend of the 60s.

The character Napoleon Solo was actually created by Ian Fleming as a supporting role in Goldfinger. In the film version is played by actor Martin Benson.

The actors are brilliant (Henry Cavill stands out in this role, he clearly had so much fun with it), Guy Ritchie is a genius at directing, the pacing is just right, the cinematography and costumes are amazing, there's action and charme and humor and emotion, and the music is so good! I really enjoyed your reaction and watching along with you 😊 Btw, there's another Guy Ritchie movie, starring Henry Cavill, coming out in April called The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and I think it's going to be absolutely phenomenal. Also, in "The Man From U.N.C.L.E", during the end credits, if I remember correctly I think they show a document stating that Gaby has started learning Russian, which I thought was quite a cute detail (besides being obviously useful for a spy during the cold war). 😊

Clashing with Rogue Nation and next to zero advertising sealed its fate.
Hammer had some big shoes to fill, Illya Kuryakin played by David Mccallum was a genuine phenomenon , treated by fans like Elvis / The Beatles.
Also David is still a legend for penning "The Edge".

I remember the TV series from 1964 - loved it, came out 2 years before the Mission Impossible TV series ... I'd say the movie fits well with the feel of the TV Series [for both of them] Now we need a good movie for the TV series Search [originally called Probe, but there was a PBS series called Probe and that caused confusion and they were afraid it would hurt ratings so they renamed it] Technically, there WAS a movie called Probe that the TV series was based on, but I mean a modern movie needs to be made. We had a LOT of spy series back in the day. Although, my favorite remains Get Smart [sadly, the movie that was made for that didn't do a good job - they got bits of the old TV series and didn't get other bits and it felt like they didn't understand the TV series so it just didn't work well - like someone telling a joke but getting the timing all wrong]
Oh, Man from U.N.C.L.E. [the TV series] came out BEFORE the first James Bond movie - so Bond was copying Man from U.N.C.L.E.

I love this movie, I watched it twice at the movie theatre when it came out. Thoroughly enjoyed the style and performances!
I'd like to suggest two movies that I'd love to get your takes on it: "Requiem for a dream" and "Trainspotting"

Haha, have you done ‘RocknRolla’ yet? You’ll love that one! And about the gadgets: if you’re ever in Berlin, go and have a look at the museum there, there’s some crazy techy futuristic gadgets from this era.

There is a new movie of Henry cavill titled "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" a Guy Ritchie film... you should react to the trailer because we get to see another side of Cavill's acting!

You are correct, the pacing was intentional. It is a perfect nod to the TV series.
I look forward to seeing Henry Cavill in the upcoming The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. I have great hopes for that film.
If you can fit it into your schedule, please do a reaction to Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen (2024) Netflix series. Just 8 episodes.

It's sad they never made a follow up. I feel it was a movie that would have done well.

I love this movie, it honestly is such a blast! I remember seeing the trailer once in theaters and my friend and I (we practically went to the movies 3 times a month) never heard of it again. We commented at the time it would be interesting to see and then there was zero marketing. We went to see other movies and didn't even see the trailer again. Then we tied to find something to do months later and he sent me the trailer and we remembered seeing the green bathroom stall fight. So I blame the lack of marketing for it's lack of success. Illiya talking from the bathroom is my favorite scene. "He had soft bones."

33:42 When I was in MOS school in the marines, my classroom was in the same building as the SBM school (small boat mechanics) the guys who repair and maintain the rhibs for spec ops and other assorted cool guys. Twice I got to go across the hall to help their instructors with something after class - One time I helped them 'break' the boats for a repair test, and once to help them roll and store them - while I was waiting on orders to my unit. Obviously not the same boats, but still really fuckin cool. Ill tell ya though, those things are HEAVY and a BITCH to roll up and store properly.

Please react to the 2024 Netflix series version of The Gentlemen. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
For what it’s worth, this came out in 2015, a year that was over saturated with action and spy films, including Mad Max: Fury Road, M.I. 5, and San Andreas. Sadly, it being lost in the shuffle is unsurprising.
Thanks for your attention to pronunciation and thanks for another great reaction!

I you watched the credit sequence as it had their dosier's and extra bit from other missions in the credits as treats. I really hope they make another one of these
