They filmed the opening plane stunt 8 times, going to 5,000 feet - take-off and landing, then go again. They also took off at a sharper angle than the plane normally would in order to capture the more striking shot. Cruise had special hardened contact lenses on his eyes because never mind the wind, any sort of even tiny debris at that speed would be very damaging for the eye to say the least.

Yep, and if something went wrong, everybody who worked on the movie would have been out of a job. Stuntmen exist for a reason. Tom just comes across as a showboating adrenaline junkie who is fine with putting the movie on the line because he doesn't want other stuntmen or vfx guys sharing in his glory. That takes an insane amt of training to hold your breath and move your body at same time. Bravo to him!! Isla's fighting style is so cool. The way she moves so quickly and is able to distract one way while attacking the other. Or her signature spin up onto their shoulders and then drop them while breaking their neck. She is an extremely talented agent and a great actress. It's usually typical to start the film shoot with the big stunts. Her first day on set was the jump from the Opera rooftop. And she says she swore like a sailor the whole way down right into Tom's ear.

In interviews, he said he didn't tell his mom about the stunt until the movie was done and he took her to see it because he didn't want her to freak completely out, lol. they talked about his consultations with his main stunt guy and the practices and precautions they take. still very dangerous stuff. with the plane scene, at that velocity, tiny pepples could've blinded him, no matter the protection. he still takes crazy risks and i'm scared his luck will run out in one of his shoots. but i guess for him, it'd be a great way to go out, doing what he loves.

And when I saw him do the plane stunt and the pole climb with his upper body, all I could think is- this guy is really making us 50+ and up group, look Great lol! Grant you now he/We are 61. Somebody may have already commented on this but in the behind the scenes vids or maybe a Graham Norton interview, Rebecca says that her first day of filming was the repelling outside the opera house scene and she was understandably nervous. They did the take and she said Tom said, "Welcome to Mission." Tom laughed and say he would never say anything that cheesy.

If it wasn't for CinemaWins I would have never noticed that Solomon Lane was already in one of the cubicles at the Record Store listening to something and waiting for Ethan. A small detail but it blew my mind!

This is one of my favorites from the franchise. It is really really good. The cast is great, the villain is awesome and the plot and sequences were super well done. Love the addition of Rebecca in this one. She dis a really good job with Ilsa.

As always it should be noted he had wires for the plane scene. As obviously they refused to let him hang from a jet with at least something just in case he fell off. None the less the wires were not some super big rig of safety. Just enough to keep him "hanging on". Removed them with CG of course.

I don't know how long it was, but back when I was taking swim lessons, I held my breath so long the teacher got worried. I don't know what it was but back then, I could just hold and go under for a while. I used to just sit on the bottom of the pool, looking up at the day through the water

I love the fact that both Tom Hollander and Simon McBurney are in this as it’s a reunion of some of the cast of the British sitcom Rev. Sadly the Bishop Of London from that was too busy running MI6 in another franchise 😂

The last 3 movies with Mquarrie as the director has been perfect. I rank them like this:
    1. Fallout/Dead Reckoning (10)
    2. Rogue Nation (10)
    3. Ghost Protocol (9.5)
    4. Mission Impossible 3 (9)
    5. Mission Impossible 2 (8.5)
    6. Mission Impossible (8)
Yes I rate MI2 infront MI1. I just love that its a "stand alone" just straight out 2000s action movie. I was 12 when it came out. Its super nostalgic for me.

The trick to holding your breath is, you gotta hyperventilate before the act. Was watching a Wim Hoff podcast. I tried to do it along with him, and I couldn't believe myself. Held it for 1.5 minutes and even then, I couldn't really feel myself struggling. It was just a mental thing that I started feeling weird that I hadn't breathed for so long.
Kate Winslet did it for 7 minutes.
