The oldies are la creme de la creme for out souls ... they bring us sooo much joy ! I appreciate them so much and I am greatful to those who composed their music, to the ones who wrote their lyrics and to the ones who performed them ! God bless them all wherever they are! I just saw Chubby Checker in concert yesterday. He is an entertainer to the max. Including his audience in singing, dancing and walking through the audience, and what turned out to be the blast of my summer...dancing with him on stage doing the twist! 💃
This song came out over 60 years ago!! I'm surprised Chubby is even still alive all these years later--much less that he's still performing in concerts(?!). Well, good for him! 😀
Well, if he was/is "chubby" that doesn't bode well for a long life (i.e., over the life expectancy), as I see it...just common sense.@@ShaneCarroll-y8o
How do you make a super classic song even better? Whip up a delightful new music video that respects the original song! Love all that archival footage!
My grandmother played this for me while I was 6 she had it on a cassette tape it's something I'll always remember, I'm 18 now and I still love this song my grandmother passed away in 2017 overnight in a hospital after being airlifted it broke my heart so much knowing that I'll never be able to dance with her to this song again... I'll forever miss her.
My tater tot brought me here. She's discovered a new dance. Instead of just her jiggle, she's doing the twist now. But her version of the twist. Her twist is very serious & she's gotta assault a couple of things while she's doing it. Then claps
Released in June 1960. The song got to #1 on the charts on September 19, 1960...and #1 again on January 13, 1962.The song became a MASSIVE hit across the country!!!
Love it... I was feeling really low and saw the Jukebox Classic album advertised... Couldn't help but fel lifted. I grew up on this music 3+ decades older than me.. and it's still going strong.... Going back to my musical roots with this music❤😊
My grandpa just told me about the twist tonight. He was born in the late 40s and hearing him talk about the past and how far we’ve come, just brings a tear to my eye sometimes.
I remember when my oldest sister went to see Chubby Checker in Atlantic City, New Jersey. So exciting! Back in those days, it was all about the dances and people had real fun. Everyone was working and nobody was rich, but most people had what they needed.
Whats great about the twist is that its a pretty straightforward and easy dance to pull off. Meaning everyone on the dance floor can pick it up in minutes and even put their own little spin on it if desired. Fun song and dance which is now pretty much iconic. The scene in Madmen with Peggy twisting toward Pete was televised perfection.
I was so fortunate to get to see him second row in concert in the early 2000s. He sounded just like his albums, didn't need anything to make him sound good. Sang a verse of a song to me. A totally awesome concert!!!
God bless this man. At 81 years of age, this living legend is STILL giving audiences the thrill of a lifetime!! "The Twist" has the sole recognition of being the ONLY RECORD EVER TO REACH #1 TWICE on the Billboard Hot 100 charts - both in 1960 AND 1962!!!! In 2008, Chubby's "Twist" was named "THE BIGGEST CHART HIT OF ALL TIME" by Billboard Magazine. To his own dismay, Ernest Evans (real name) was never elected into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, reducing that institution to little more than a meaningless farce. #rockandrollhalloffame
No music written today will be remembered by 14 year olds 63 years from now when they are 77. There are no golden oldies being sung today like Chubby Checker's twist was in 1960. I was 10 years old in 1960 and loved that song then and still do at 73.
