Built between 1984 and 1992 by Gerald Fitzpatrick using two BSA B50 top ends with a 10:1 compression ratio on home-cast crankcases that he designed himself. It was a 60-degree vee. The crankwheels and crankpin were made by Gerald in his shed and he used Matchless "knife and fork" con-rods
No, this is not the Fitzpatrick. This is the Owen Evans version. It is reduced to 9.5 :1 with compression plates, but still difficult to start. Evans discussed his ideas with Fitzpatrick before going ahead. I have made a page comparing it to the Fitzpatrick with the Owens, and several other B50-based v-twins. Here is the page... www.diagnosis2012.co.uk/vtwinnews11.html
Looks like same drama as my 74 Trident. 1,000 cc Hyde kit, triple 930 carbs, no chokes. And kickstart that was really designed for a 500 twin that grew to 750; thence to 1,000 with the Hyde kit. If it didn't start first half dozen kicks........ go and have a break, not enough left in my leg to start it. And that was 30 years ago when I was fit!!!! :-) Great post; very interesting bike, great to see.
I was riding my Yamaha XT500 single and thinking wouldn’t it be cool to make a two cylinder V-Twin. Magically, the next year (1981) Yamaha produced the XV920RH (TR-1 in Europe), which is a v twin made from two cylinders from their 500 cc single. Still have the XV920RH today! Ps it’s my first bike with no kick starter…luckily it has never let me down !
I remember a time I was on the Isle of Mann in the early 80's on a camping site for the TT, and saw a young man ask a fella with a tuned 900SS if he could try starting it,all of us with kick-start bikes feared what would happen,it did after a couple of kicks it backfired and broke his ankle, there was a mixture of concern and laughter all over the campsite
...and here is my article about the JABSA v-twin build (1927 JAP flatnrad 1000 cc v-twin in a 1937 hand fearchange BSA M20 chassis... www.diagnosis2012.co.uk/Jabsawocky2.pdf
Reminds me of a review of the 800ss desmo in 1980 ( l think) Bike magazine and the guy just dripping sweat until it caught- no tick over either lol Well done you! 👍
That kick has to be timed with the compression release, I remember my 67 Royal Enfield, was a half kick start for me, and others could be there all day lol or dislocate their knee in the process

merci pour les détails....maintenant je me souviens d'avoir vu , à l'époque, un reportage sur le fabuleux travail de cet homme ❤❤❤❤
I love the look of this scoot. But would love to have seen it tootling down the road also.

Well done ...looks hard work !
Now that is a beast,i like it .
Reminds me of a review of the 800ss desmo in 1980 ( l think) Bike magazine and the guy just dripping sweat until it caught- no tick over either lol
Well done you! 👍
Great bike, well done.
A compression release might help the engine get spinning.
Electric starter would be much better!
A beast to kick over...sounds bang on
owwwweee I need to visit my chiropractor..lol
The heads are recognizable but still different from the B50--the pushrod tower is much more exposed. What a great project this is though.
That front carb is going to heat up..
You need Tubby Ollerenshaw to start that for you... he's got the weight.
BSA is not liable for broken ankles.
you look knacked
By the time you get it started you need a lie down.
I think lowering its compression might be a good idea, great bike mind.
Awesome job, looks absolutely beautiful 🙂 did you make the patterns and sand cast the crankcase ? Would like to see more, well done 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
No, but I have Owen Evans's enginering drawings
Man that thing has some compression. He is struggling to kick it over.
Hi!!! what do its model, and how is c.c.?
It's a special, I think 1000cc
That kick has to be timed with the compression release, I remember my 67 Royal Enfield, was a half kick start for me, and others could be there all day lol or dislocate their knee in the process
Surpricingly quiet. Is it due to the strange x-type of pipe or is it some kind of high effectivity mufflers?
It is the mufflers...but thay are actually louder than on the video.
Needs a starter motor.
Is that two B 40 engines ?
If it's 998cc it must be B50 from cylinders up over and B50 pistons!
Don't be scared, kick IT
Oh that poor sidestand..
Shoulddd be fixing the god damm rooftop and steed he's messing around with a God damm motorbike.
When I read what you said, I looked for a horse initially ! *instead* .
There’s just so many hours in a day!
Yeah, it very nearly didn't....
Why not just press the starter button ? Works on all my bikes.
Duh. I'll bet it does.
Mr. Plastic
nice bike, but a good way to snap a side stand!!
