      Heck yeah man! I'll keep pumping out the videos then. I sandblasted for over an hour this morning on the header pipe, muffler and rear skid plate from this machine. Hoping to get it all back together this weekend!

    I was watching one of your videos you were riding with your buddies and their bikes wouldn’t start. Kick kick kick. Not sure if you know this but a truck I was taught with my 350x when it didn’t start up was turn the ignition switch off hold the throttle wide open and kick it 4 or 5 times then turn the switch back on and papow fires right up. Don’t ask me,it worked

    • @ThisOldTrike
      @ThisOldTrike  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes sir! That's the instructions they put right on the tank directly in front of the rider... which the rider NEVER reads... until they're so amazingly winded from kicking and kicking and kicking... and they sit down in defeat and hang their head... and only then do they notice the decal that says "If the engine fails to restart..."

    I’ve had very good results taking spray paint off with gun wash many times now but I never actually tried it on a 350x engine. Basically you soak a rag with it and try wiping the paint off and sometimes you need to let the rag sit on it a minute or two. Every-time I’ve ever did it I had great results and the factory paint was left like new. Someone repainted the head in my 350x when doing the valve stem seals and painted the cylinder so I need to get after it. That’s actually a pretty nice 350x you got there. One of those in between bikes. Too nice for a rider but not a show bike. But a pretty easy bike to restore and make perfect.

    Everyone knows, and I would feel the same...Your'e gonna go farther and correct the issues, plain and simple. I like a nice rider, and some things need attention no doubt. Iv'e been kinda doing the same thing on a mostly original 85 250 Big Red , nothing like original.

    • @ThisOldTrike
      @ThisOldTrike  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes sir. I was out of town all weekend, so this morning was my first time in the shop staring at the motor as I left it on Friday... and honestly... sitting there having been douched with WD-40 on Friday... it looked decent. I know that's totally a cheat and running it for 5 minutes will burn all that off... but I'm contemplating leaving it. I have a take out motor that isn't perfect and needs a couple things, but I thought about swapping that out to this machine... I'm still up in the air. Definitely TBD!

    Looking good! To put your mind at ease, I didn’t change the tank decal and didn’t use spray paint on the motor. Totally the way I got it. I probably didn’t ride it more than 10-15 times…the longest trip with it was up buck mountain and the wheelie contest (on the oem tires) on your pavement😜

    Nice video I’m restoring a 81 250r and the beautiful red motor is covered in black spray paint do you Recommend using the oven cleaner and wd40 bath after? Just don’t want to hurt the red paint at all

    • @ThisOldTrike
      @ThisOldTrike  ปีที่แล้ว

      All I can tell you is what you saw in this video. The oven cleaner didn't seem to affect the black factory paint on this machine, but it didn't get all the spray paint either... I'm not sure if I kept doing it, would I have gotten everything, or would it have started to affect the factory paint... I'm not sure. I really can't offer much more than that and be certain about it.

    After seeing the beautiful tank you're putting on it, you should probably go all the way. The rest of the bike will just not look as good in comparison. Especially if you aren't planning on riding it. Just my 2 shillings worth.

    • @ThisOldTrike
      @ThisOldTrike  ปีที่แล้ว

      So I've decided to go a different direction with the tank. My next video will clarify that. I get what you're saying though.

  • @handsolo6241
    @handsolo6241 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yea, naw, buy a nice bolt kit for the entire thing. Cerakote the cases. Get an old oven, and a blast cabinet. You'll love it. A 350x is worth it. Take it apart.

    • @ThisOldTrike
      @ThisOldTrike  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never found a bolt kit that compares to the original OEM bolts. I've got a plating set up I need to put to use and that will be PERFECT for the hardware. I've also got a blast cabinet, but I don't have the powder coating equipment... but I have a great guy not far away who does a terrific job. Still not a 100% on the exact direction I will take this, but it will likely be a 2 phase deal.
