Travis & suzi, lynyrd skynyrd reunited in 1987 for a tour, 10 years after their fatal plane crash that killed ronnie van zant and steve gaines. ronnie's youngest brother johnnie took over on vocals and former member ed king was coaxed out of retirment to rejoin the band. allen collins had been paralzed the previous year in an auto accident and acted as the "musical director". this video is compiled from that tour. the band consists of plane crash survivors gary rossington (guitar), leon wilkeson (bass), billy powell (piano) and artimus pyle (drums). Randall hall, formerly of the allen collins band, is the third guitarist and the back-up singers include dale krantz, former lead singer for the rossington-collins band and wife of gary rossington. the gray bearded gentleman seen throughout the video is lacey van zant, father of ronnie and johnnie. you can also see allen in his motorized wheel chair. this video is very emotional, hope you guys like it.

Love this jam. Never thought anyone would react to this. Great job
THANK YOU! AND THANKS TERENCE FOR REQUESTING IT!
The older I get, the more emotional these songs are, and it got me. Thanks for the reactions, and Happy Thanksgiving.
The entire 1987 tribute tour live album Skynyrd made is emotional and awesome!
I was at the kickoff of this tour in Nashville at the Starwood Amphitheater,, Oct 1987 ,Artimus Pyle had an injury and they played with 2 drummers. When they did Freebird at the end they played the music and dubbed Ronnie in on vocals. It was a couple years latter before Johnnie would sing Freebird on stage
So glad you did this song. I saw them overseas in mid 70s. They did such a good show. We all wore red or blue plaid long-sleeves shirts. Lyrically, the song reminds me of Tom T Hall's "Homecoming." Good reaction. This is very similar to the original.
Saw them on the Tribute Tour. Johnny did a great job singing, the rest of the guys sounded awesome too. It was a joy to get to see them live.
Never has a band endured so much tragedy and continued to persevere. There’s several shots of Allen Collins in this vid confined to a wheelchair after being paralyzed in a car accident that killed his girlfriend. I saw The Rossington Collins Band perform in S Fl three days after Allen’s wife died during childbirth. Sadly the list goes on and on but the music is forever!
Ttheir music gives me serious energy! At the moment I'm loving October Ends' new song, you should definitely react to it!
Such an awesome song.
This was 10 years after the crash, Ronnie's brother Johnny is singing here. All the original band except Ronnie, Steve, and Cassie. Alan Collins is there in a wheel chair but could not play. I'm glad they did this and kept it going.
Absolutely great! I miss the original Skynyrd so much! Johnny is great, but Ronnie was a different level! No disrespect to Johnny. The amount of amazing music that they made in such a short time fascinates and makes me sad at the same time.
Please have a listern to Russel Morris's song "Rachel". You'll appreciate this I think. Would love to see your reaction. Thank you from Nev Australia.
Most of the members in this video, are original.
It's amazing how much Johnny sounds like his brother Ronnie. And nice to see original band member Ed King joining them.
Actually, that lineup is almost the original. Five original members are in this lineup, or at least at the time of the plane crash. Ed King was there, and he is an original member. He left and was eventually replaced by Steve Gaines, who perished in the crash. Ed came back. So, Ronnie was unfortunately gone, Allen was actually there, but didn’t feel comfortable playing.
It wasn't that Allen felt uncomfortable playing, he wasn't able to. He had limited use of his hands.
Saddest part of seeing this is knowing that there are now no original surviving members of
LYNYRD SKYNYRD 😥[X]🇺🇲
That last solo was Gary Rossington. He’s the one in the black hat. He passed away earlier this year. One the best guitarist to ever do it!!!
sorry but to me the band died when Ronnie did. nothing against the band but to me it's the same for me as AC/DC when Bon Scott died they may have had success but it's not the same.
cover band
This is Terence, great job guys! Johnny said he doesn't worry about filling Ronnie's shoes because Ronnie never wore shoes on stage, anyway!
