    sir pls explain what is mean concentration of dye and how it is useful

    • @VivekSirsPhysiology

      The term “mean” means, there are multiple values, and their average or mean is calculated. So, mean concentration of the dye means, multiple samples are collected for dye concentrations. And, from those multiple dye concentrations, a mean is calculated. Imagine two sets of values (of dye concentrations). (1) 10 , 9, 8, 7. Mean will be somewhere in the range of 8 or 9. And, (2) 10, 6, 4, 2. Mean will be in the range of 5. In the first case, mean value was higher. Check the values. The dye was not diluted rapidly. So, mean came out to be higher. Now check the second set. Mean value is lower. Check the values. The dye was diluted to a much greater extent (10 -> 6 -> 4 -> 2). So, greater stroke volume, greater will be the dilution of the dye, and lower will be the mean value.

    sir how will you measure that concentration of the dye after withdrawing that sample ? is there any mathematical derivation / formula for that

    • @VivekSirsPhysiology
      @VivekSirsPhysiology  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dye concentration is measured in mg per unit volume of plasma or ECF.

  • @P25125

    Sir, why concentration will be low in VSD?
    Since, the entire fluid is passing through the hole volume should be low but not the concentration right . Then why it is erroneous?

    • @VivekSirsPhysiology
      @VivekSirsPhysiology  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If low volume of the dye is mixed in a low stroke volume, the concentration at the collection point should be as expected, right? That's the argument? Even then the stroke volume will get calculated erroneously higher. Reason - Actually the stroke volume is LOW , in VSD. And it has been observed that, by dye dilution method, stroke volume is measured to be normal-to-high. So, it's anyways an error. A low stroke volume (actually), but getting measured normal. It means erroneously higher stroke volume measured (than what is actually present). This is just hypothetical. The method is said to be unreliable in these conditions. So, it was just made for the sake of MCQ.

    Sir the numerous values we have taken from arterial side for the mean concentration, are those values huge different in number ? Or most are same in number?

    • @VivekSirsPhysiology
      @VivekSirsPhysiology  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We injected the dye only once. A fixed volume was injected. It goes to the heart, and then stroke volume of the dye will dilute it, and when it starts coming to arterial side, the dye values will be less and less and less in the successive samples. And those values will depend on the STROKE VOLUME. If the stroke volume is high, then the dilution of the dye will be greater; that means, in each sample the dye concentration will be much less compared to the previous sample. Then we calculate the mean concentration of the dye.
