Both are great budget CPU.
Get whatever cheaper in your country.
12400 wins in most. But is a little bit more power hungry than 5600x but since it is a budget range, it is not much. Pro gamers can go with 5600x. Content creators should definitely go with 12400 as the codecs and stability of intel is unmatched.

This is just some fanboy activities now, admittedly 5600x is much better and im sure the motherboards are cheaper too also the 5600x is 9 percent faster in 1080p and in 1440p its 3 percent faster AND only .96 slower in 4k plus it doesnt draw that much power compared to the i5. Keep in mind the i510500 was the one that was supposed to be competing but flopped.

Intel is good if you can keep it cool. AMD is still good no matter how hot it is (even tho it's bad for longetivity, but it's good for the productivity efficiency), tho i always look for a cooler that can tame down intel's heat.. that way you know that it's a good cooler XD
As a current Intel user, I can confirm that I can upgrade from Ryzen 1600 to 5600x without changing the motherboard. Intel has always made it difficult to upgrade CPUs.

I had both, stock the 5600X is a bit slower, but since the 12400F maxes out at 3600 ram gear 1, and 5600X did 4000 without WHEA19s + pbo and co it was faster in viritually everything than the 12400F. In SOTTR 5600X had a 5% lead, in other games usually 2-5%. Only place 12400F was in cinebench where it got 12300points vs 12100 points. 12400F needs a bit less cooling and uses a bit less power so that is better, but B660-MBs are more expensive than B550.

5000 series is legendary. Swapped from a 1700 to a 5600x years down the line and still havent needed to upgrade. Might finally upgrade to the 5800x for some extra uplift in cpu heavy proton games.

I have a AMD Athelone with gigabyte motherboard 1gb memory 215 gb HD no extra cooler fan, no graphics card, no SSD, but I able to play any 4 gb or high end game without lack.🤟

Это можно использовать чтобы сделать пк тише, разогнать проц (насчет этой возможности не уверен т.к. не интересовался давно,амд народней и лучше в этом плане), ну или он будет работать при меньшей температуре. Отрицать преимущества уже знак поражения. Я кстати с амд 5000 серии

AMD, for sure.
Depends on what country you live in, but a full build around the 5600x tends to be cheaper for the most part compared to the i5-12400f.
And thats just on stock settings, it gets a even better once/if you take your time tweaking the Curve Optimizer settings on the 5600x.

Опять же на сколько большая разница. Никто не будет использовать на них боксовые кулеры, у меня 5600х охлаждается простой башней с 4-мя трубками и одним кулером, в играх на ультрах выше 70° не поднимается. Башню купил рубля за 4, и то потому что красивая по дизайну подходила, можно купить и вдвое дешевле. Так что температура не такой уж и важный показатель, если ты не любитель играть в стресс тесты
У меня стоит 5600X на воде и не греется он вообще, нормальный охлад ставь и бедет тебе радость, у меня даже в полной нагрузке не сбрасывает частоты
