The famous extension of the super was created in KOF 01, using animations from KOF 00. It wasn't even a SNK game, it was made by Eolith when SNK was closed... but that idea was so good that it was fully embraced by SNK since their return with KOF 03.
Yeah. One can say all about the Eolith era but they gave us awesome Desperation Moves, new characters and redesigns for classic characters. Despite all the behind the scenes problems, the devs at Brezzasoft (a company who was composed by ex-SNK employees) really put a lot of effort and were very creative
@meganinten0078 Yeah, Eolith had some good original ideas in my opinion... it was just a small staff in bad conditions for putting out the technical quality of KOF 99-00. And for a small staff, they have the big merit of saving the franchise with KOF 02, that is influential still today thanks to the combo mechanic. Each game have variants of it, but the principle of activating it in the middle of an attack is present in all games.
That Extension was the Best Thing that Ever Happened to "Ya Otome". That Extension perfectly complements that Super to the point where it feels like a Great Void when it's not Present in Games After KOF 2001 (Like in KOF XI and Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, where that Extension was sorely missed).

The CvS sprite looks good but the super animation looks pretty bad, and it would be the worst version to me if it wasn't for a few worse ones. I remember being disappointed in the super the first time i saw it, because the lv3 animation wasn't like the sdm animation from KOF 97-98.
