I remember playing crevice in skirmish on the 360 version and the nighttime feature definitely worked right back then. The flood that spawned were also pretty dangerous I think and it was hard to keep the reactors early game.
Strange, I play on the 360, and I have never been attacked by actual Flood on Crevice. I have only had to deal with Flood spore clouds, which only affected ungarrisoned infantry that wasn't within the LOS of a base.
Exile will always be dear to me. Played an absolute marathon of a game years ago as Cutter. Threw sooo many ODSTs into the meat grinder to draw fire so my teammate’s fully starred spartan Cobras wrecked Scarab after Scarab.
This reminds me how much I loved playing this game all through elementary, middle, and high school. Terminal Moraine and Labyrinth were my go to's, with Exile a close 3rd.
Man, I remember those days - I always loved games where a third party existed to cause havoc the standard A vs B format. I love greater amounts of sides to team battles, they're interesting!
Fort Deen is everyone's favorite because it is easier to defend compared to the other 3v3 maps. The number one reason is also because ODSTs shine on this map. If you have a really good Cutter on your team, it's game over.
Having a 2-3 hour struggle to survive and win against legendary A.I. on Terminal Moraine is a experience no other map can match. The isolated islands make amazing strongholds and a fun defense. Along with the chokepoint holo bridges that go out and can wipe out an entire invading force thats on it. ODSTs can hold the bridge like Spartans from the movie 300. Terminal Moraine is my favorite because it feels like such an elevated experience compared to other maps.
on xbox crevice at night flood spawn at the center and attack the base closest to the center. It only worked on the 360 version though. Both xbox one and pc versions don't work for some reason.
2v2 on the Docks brings me back. A friend and I used to grind Deathmatch using a strat that an RTS cheesemaster taught me and it was a ton of fun. For whatever reason, wraiths dealt bonus damage to structures in Deathmatch mode, particularly with their active ability, and I think many other units also had Deathmatch-specific balance adjustments. The cheese strat was to choose Prophet of Regret on whatever map and build 2 factories (I think) and rush the enemy bases using a mass wraith drop. My friend would play Sgt Forge, using early Warthogs and Grizzlies to defend me while I massed my deathball. On Docks I would fly over the buildings in the middle of the map with the Prophet and clean house in, like, less than 5 minutes if the enemy team was not expecting it. But if the rush failed that's when the real fun began. The middle would become an insane meat grinder, and every push or flank could leave you vulnerable to air-based counterplay sent over the impassable terrain. It was a super dynamic, no frills map with crazy back and forth plays when we got a good match.
Very happy i found your channel. Played this non stop on 360 and made it to general rank. Working my way up on DE. Hard to get games as very few players still play 💔

Chasms, docks, and fort Deen my top three as well I think. Great video! However, I do think you vastly underestimated forge in ones. I think forge is better than cutter on almost every map in ones. i don't play a lot of ones though so who knows, but I for sure would take forge over cutter on almost every ones map.
Forge is great in 1s, especially vs covenant. I may give cutter the edge on blood gulch because elephant and on Pirth due to extra base. But I do wholeheartedly agree he is one of the best 1s leaders. Great to have you around shoe!
at 52:20 I was wondering where the "why are we here" tangent came from. My heart melted when the photo faded to the base of blood gulch and the memory hit me
Labyrinth was the first 2v2 map I ever played and then also the first 2v2 map I ever won on. So that map will always have a special place in my heart. I would put it just behind docks in terms of my enjoyment of it.
My favorite strategy in both halo wars game is rushing 15 hornets and 15 warthog at the enemy bass and just focus fire everything on their bass, or spam massive amounts of odsts, using those 2 strategies and just spamming them keeps your opponent trapped where they can't move if you do it really good
The Prophet is good for Repository since he can shoot down the sentinels and take the factory pretty early, his energy shield and leader power help with that too.
Favorite 1v1 is probably Blood Gulch. Not a lot of space, but it's fairly straightforward (and bonus for it being a map based off an existing multiplayer map in the mainstream Halo series). Favorite 2v2 is tied with Docks and Beasley's Plateau. One makes it easy to funnel in all enemy units save for air, the other has the build plots separate from the bases, which can be used for a variety of strategies if you build the right structures. Favorite 3v3 is Fort Deen. I just like the look of the map, and the fact that the energy walls can block off every ground route possible to your opponents, allowing for a lot of control of both enemy and allied movement.
It’s been a while since I played halo wars 1 but I swear the mega turret is somewhere else in the game, I’m thinking it’s somewhere on the last mission of the campaign.
One thing about chasms is the fact that the one sode with the two paths to the expo if you lose your main base your enemy can pincer attack you and you're screwed so be careful to not loose your main base if you choose to take that expo
I actually won a map on release due to the flood, I b-lined to the containment release area and got flood out early enough to delay the enemy while I built up. After that I released the flood at a constant rate until the enemy wasn’t able to hold off. ( I did raid their base and destroyed from of their buildings with hogs and ODSTs)
when the original game came out i really enjoyed sending my scout over to the rear expansion on repository and taking it immediately, building warehouses on my main base. Id then start getting grunts n jackals trained up. It was so hilarious sometimes when the enemy team wouldn't know for 10+ minutes.
Terminal Moraine was probably my favorite map due being able to take the side bases and having a one minute grace period of being safe when the light bridges shut off and using your pelicans or teleport units to leader as a way to ferry units right into your enemy’s base. As for Crevice, I kinda wished they had the night flood raid mechanic. It would have added so much chaos and feel like you were fighting a three way battle each time night fall came. Blood Gulch is another favorite because, well, great call back and reference to such a classic map.
Hey turnip on the docks at 53:35 you can pelican troops to that circle on top of the buildings. One time i parked wolverines there and shredded the enemys whole army of banshees and vampires.
I usually just turtle on the island bases of terminal moraine. Otherwise the Brute AI just rushes me (I never got to play online with my xbox). Then I build my forces while occasionally harssing the enemy. In frozen valley I usually just resort to trench warfare depening on where I start. Otherwise (again) the brute chieftain might rush me.
Hey Turnip, great video as always, but I wanted to ask if you could make a playlist for all your videos that are kind of like guides and tutorials? It'd make it a lot easier to find and watch them all from start to finish.
On tundra I have noticed that higher veted troops make it do more damage I don't know if that's true and i could be seeing things but I thought I point it out
15:53 heavily disagree. Forge is one of the strongest. You make your teamate send you a supply boost if you secure the bridges, giving you a fully upgraded eco within a minute of the game allowing you to go 3 + 4 supply pads into double reactor double tank production very early. In crevice, they use to attack your main base at night, just the flying flood would pick away at your front turrets and supply pads.
Man, I remember those days - I always loved games where a third party existed to cause havoc the standard A vs B format. I love greater amounts of sides to team battles, they're interesting!
Did they change that? I never even noticed until he mentioned it in the video. I should check that out.
Fort Deen is everyone's favorite because it is easier to defend compared to the other 3v3 maps. The number one reason is also because ODSTs shine on this map. If you have a really good Cutter on your team, it's game over.

Just ran across this account and am so grateful this game is still alive. What an absolute gem!
Fun fact: Chasms was the only playable skirmish map on the demo back in the day. They really made a good decision there.
Really great seeing someone consistently posting about halo wars
