    Another person said in the comments to put the rabbits in the same area where the baby chicks go (where you put the doors w/windows to keep out the rats) since you don't have to use it during the winter. I thought that was a great idea! This way they will stay warm, their water won't freeze, and when you give them hay it won't fall to the ground. You will have a happy Lilly too :)

      I had the same thought, but then realized two things. First Rabbit urine has a strong almost toxic order, that would make that a bad idea because of not enough air circulation. Second, I'm pretty sure you cannot cross contaminate animals without risking the next group of baby chicks getting sick from the rabbits. They can buy warming devices for the water bottles. Other than that the rabbits are find in cold. They don't need warmth like other animals. Although they do need a small flat surface to stand on from time to time, to help with their health.

      Rabbits in the wild have burrows, so they must want to be cosy, they normally all cuddle up close to keep warm. Detach the nipples and pop in a bowl of warm water then reattach

    In the winter most rabbit people use the black flex bowls those bottle waterers will freeze and break in the winter. The black bowls are flexible to be able to pop the ice out and refill. God bless

    The rabbits need wood to chew on. Their teeth NEVER STOP GROWING. If they get too long the rabbits won't be able to eat or groom. Eventually the teeth could grow to puncture their skin. Also a board in the corner would give their feet a rest from the wire and be warmer for them

    Overall I love the way you treat your animals with such compassion and care. Your rabbit setup is really upsetting to watch though. Metal grid cages with no solid base for their paws, no bedding of any sort, no means for them to get shelter from the obviously freezing night time temperatures. Not to mention having absolutely no stimulation other than food and whatever mating time they're alloted each day. What a horrible life for them 😥.

    • @conceptacasserly1360
      @conceptacasserly1360 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@yanapetiet4581 Hi Yana, what's so strange is all the other animals are being given the chance to live in a manner that respects their natural instincts and behaviours yet the rabbits are being denied everything except food and water. Their setup is no better than many of the abhorrent puppy farm cage systems. Downright cruel...and moving them in their current cages in with the chickens doesn't change any of this.

    • @yanapetiet4581
      @yanapetiet4581 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@conceptacasserly1360 hey! I think it has to do with Justin copying most of the ways he keeps the animals from Joel. Once he posted a video from when they were at Joel's place, and he has these wire cages in a barn, with chickens under it to compost the manure coming from the rabbits. For humans, this is a very efficient system. But i agree that it is not animal friendly. But Justin takes all the info directly from Joel in this case, i think that it would pay off if he would do see research on his own.
      For my graduation as an animal caretaker, i researched animal welfare. There is a lot of misinformation and an overall lack of knowledge everywhere, from people who keep these animals as pets to places where they are kept as production animals. I think that that is also the case with Joel. These methods are a bit "behind" on what people consider ethical these days.
      Now, I'm not saying that these rabbits should be treated as pets, I'm really not. I understand the difference between an animal kept for production and the ones that live in your house. But to do think a lot of improvement can be made in this case.
      I see that more and more people are reacting in the comments about this, so I'm sure that Justin will get the message. I hope that in stead of turning the comment section off to avoid negativity, he will address this. But i have to be honest, i will be really disappointed if he wouldn't, and might consider stopping watching his videos.

      @@yanapetiet4581 I have been to Polyface, he also pasture raises the rabbits, I believe they call it a 'hairpin' and they move the rabbits on pasture just like they do the chickens/cows. They need hay, a better barrier to wind and Sun, and something better than wire for their feet. I don't think many animals in a small cage with nothing to stand on but wire would feel up to breeding.You'd probably have more success with breeding if you just kept them all together on a cage on the grass, and separate when babies arrive. The only upside to this system is an easy way to clean out their poo and wee. You won't even have to do that if you move them around like the other animals.

      @@hoppas77 duck manure is awesome...it is and can be nasty hahahaha...BUT under a controlled environment...it works to your benefit. It's known as cold poop...because it will not burn your plants... just like rabbit poop! Ducks also won't harm your garden plants, but they will devastate the snail and slug population... and that's fine with me! Hahaha

    I put up my tree early, I'm very thankful for what the Lord did for me, and looking at the tree during Thanksgiving reminds me of my greatest gift. I don't care what others think, they don't have to do it and they don't live here. Pretty tree.

    Hello Justin, I don't want you to get negative, but the rabbits, its got to be better life for them and dear lily, if you took them under cover and down low for lily to reach .also need a copy bedding area and for scratching for their nails (claws).everything for them needs changing. Lily can hold and pet them and all the natural things,in comfort,I cannot bear 😫 to see them in the cruel wire cages.like trapped wild animals. Its awful.please please change it 🙏 all for lily too..need hay too a nd extra water bottle s for the frozen ti m es.need food and water al, day.and for knowing o n.be the g est gift for lily to have.is her rabbits sorted,I don't think she's happy at all with the situation. I'm praying 🙏 you will sort them Justin.

    Those rabbits are going to die exposed to the cold, on wire, up in the air like that. It is so unnatural and unhealthy! At least make their pen mobile and roll them in the hoop house, and give them hay bedding. Good grief! It's freezing outside and going to get worse!

    They make heated rabbit bottles that have a nice design. Rabbits drink LOTS of water. To keep them healthy and maintain your sanity, try something like those products. Or put a heat lamp over the bottles you currently use which can help the rabbits stay warm also. They have nice fur that stays warm but they hate drafts. The cold wind can make them decline in health. Your greenhouse idea is good with a heat lamp or 2 near their water to keep it from freezing.
    Dual functions as a source of heat for your sunbathing wife and something to help your plants stay above freezing. Thats a triple function! 😄

    How can you Not pet those beautiful cats? Do you not really like animals? You don't relate to them and a lot of people also come to see the animals and the kids. Rabbits have to have a sheltered part of their housing to go to for warmth.

    I'm from The Netherlands where they shoot people in legs now and I have family in Melbourne, Australia where they put people in camps now. This family of mine fled out of Lithuania during the cold war, finding refuge in nazi Germany of all places to quickly move to Australia. My grandmother is 100 years old and still alive. My father came from Australia and was traumatized by this past and became a tyrant. Tyrants don't stop by themselves I found out. Any questions?

    You understand the importance of enrichment for the pigs, digging through their bedding, and you understand why chickens are better free range than in battery farms. I don’t understand why the rabbits are getting the short straw - it is no better than factory farming in those conditions. Yes, you can produce meat, but at what cost. Surely their welfare comes into it at some point. Just some enrichment/hay/wood to chew on would be a start.

    Jason, I’m on your side. 12 days of Christmas starts Christmas Eve. I celebrate Advent between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I decorate my tree no sooner than the weekend before Christmas. If I have to buy it early, I leave it bare during Advent. I have Advent wreaths that transform into Christmas wreaths. That’s my tradition.
