I needed this video today. My husband and I have both been feeling discontent with all sorts of things lately we even talked about moving. We bought our home about 10 years ago when we first got married. My husband's sweet grandma (who has since passed) knew we didn't have a lot of money at that time paid for us new kitchen cabinets and counters and appliances she even hand sewed a lot of our curtains a beautiful quilt for our bed and gifted us several pieces of furniture and so much more. She knew she couldn't take it with her and wanted to make sure we had a good life. That's my favorite thing about our home grandma's blessings are everywhere ❤

My Mom had an embroidered saying framed hanging in our kitchen. "The blessing of this house is contentment". I think my sister took it when Mom sold the house. When I had a house, I loved every room of it.
I miss it but after 30 years and the neighborhood going bad, we had to sell and we moved to a large 2 bedroom 2 bath condo and I enjoyed that also. Now I am in a small senior housing unit and am quite content. Lots of good memories of places I lived.

What I love about my condo, and my life in general, is keeping things simple. My decorations, are mostly my own artwork, which stays on my walls always. I do not decorate for any holiday. I love being home. I like the quiet. I like sitting on my deck in the summer just watching my chickens. I like that our house is paid for. We have no debt, and if my husband decided tonite that he was never going back to work we’d be ok-life would be different, but even without social security we’d be fine. Being content with what we have, and not always “wanting”, has given us peace and financial security.

It astonishes me when people who can afford to buy homes…and big ones at that…complain of boredom and restlessness or lack of contentment. Where I live, the median home cost is over 600k. If I owned a home and spent that kind of money, you bet I’d be in it A LOT. I honestly cannot comprehend owning something that expensive and complaining about it. If you don’t want to be at home, then rent a room and go out all the time. Many would love to have a bigger sized home and would cherish it. I’ve lived in studio apartments, medium size apartments and ones on the bigger side (I live in a city) and I can tell you I have cherished each one, no matter the size, and made it my own. When I lived in a studio I learned about minimalism because I literally had nowhere to put a lot of “stuff”. And “stuff” doesn’t even make me happy. But you know…consumerism gets a lot of people. I’m glad I never bought into that racket. But the little creature comforts I have, I use and I am grateful to have. I make my home a sanctuary. It is where I want to be. I’m never bored in it. And if I do go out it’s a planned expense for something I enjoy such as live music or I do free things for fun. But at the end of the day, I’m always happy to be in my home. Where I’ve lived for over 10 years now…I love the kitchen. I so enjoy whipping up recipes and cooking and entertaining for friends and family. I also love my little music corner in my bedroom. I have my keyboard set up, access to my microphone, my percussion and my record player and computer and I can listen to music, practice piano, write songs, sing. I love your idea of the quiet bag and I am going to make one for myself. A great idea! I love the practice of not automatically going for the phone or tv to entertain yourself. I think people tend to do that as it’s easy, it’s instant gratification and I think it does breed a lot of FOMO (fear of missing out). I am working on being more mindful about my social media use and automatically grabbing my phone for entertainment as there are so many other things that are better to occupy my time with. Thanks for the inspiration w/ this video.

Most importantly, I love WHO I share my home with. My husband is a gift from God! I also love my craft room, it is my room to escape and be creative with scrapbooking beading, reading, Bible study, and polymer clay creator. I keep all my craft supplies in a large closet and pull out whatever I am working on at the time, and then put it away when I am finished. That way it never looks messy or cluttered. I have a rocking chair, a large crafting table, my computer and a television in that room, all that I need when I want to escape the world. I also change small things seasonally and every time I do, I fall in love with my home all over again. I just put out my fall decorations, couch pillows, etc. and it looks so nice and cozy. Taking pride in your home is just part of what I grew up with and I hope I passed it on to my children.

I think a “good” thing that came out of COVID was being forced to stay home. I’ve always loved my “homes.” Decorating from thrifted items has been my passion for many years. Too funny I was going to head to the thrift store “for something to do.” Checked TH-cam for any newly uploaded videos and there you were with today’s message. Staying home☺️. It has taken discipline…a changed mindset/habit over the last few years but I’m so happy. Your messages are wonderful validation. It’s maybe our last “warm” day here in Wisconsin so I’m going for a walk♥️. 1 Timothy 6:6. Godliness with contentment is great gain.

Emmy, it's like you and Paul are reading our minds. My husband and I just had this conversation last night. How we are content with our home. It is a roof over our heads and has provided for us for so many years.
Our home is 172 years + old. What I love about it is that it's ours. We worked so hard for it and are continuing to work to pay it off. The things I love the most about our home are the memories ours holds. I have so many. One is how the trim comes off the corner of the doorway when I walk by and bump it. It reminds me of when our daughter was little riding her tricycle around the circle of our downstairs and catching the trim with the wheels. I love the doorway where we marked her growth chart in pencil. I even love the places she secretly carved her initials when I wasn't looking. LOL Our daughter is now 28 and just told us about them a few years ago! I also love the creaky floors. Our home is far from perfect and still needs a ton of work. But it's ours and we love it here.
I was so excited to see my cards! I am so very happy you use them!
My quite bag/box is filled with hand sewing. I love to do English Paper Piecing. As I sew, I forget about everything else and work on the simple task of sewing. It gives me such a peaceful feeling.

There are so many things I love about my home it's hard to pick just 2. First I live beside a large lake with so much wildlife, geese, swans and mallard ducks swimming by daily. My home is a small two bedroom cottage with quaint features and cathedral ceilings and a gas fireplace. I am surrounded by trees and natural forests nearby. It's so quiet that at first I had trouble sleeping believe it or not. Every time I walk into my space it's like getting a hug. I am at home finally for the first time in 68 years.

I love my home. It has a mountain like atmosphere...loghome in the woods.....with the drive in as the song says.. over the river and through the woods to my house I go. 🦌 Lots of wild life to enjoy.
Inside I use the decor items I've had for 35 yrs. I recently made a spare bedroom into a library/ exercise/yoga room. A comfortable antique butterfly wing chair (that I thrifted) awaits.
My house by far is not perfect by todays you tube influencer standards...but it is so comfortable to me.
I love my house for the peace it gives me. It's a house I only allow kindness in.

Well, as soon as you said "clean up your clutter" that is exactly what I was thinking about. Right now, my house feels like a hoarder lives here. Been working on it, but it will take at least a year. With that said, I still enjoy being home with my pets. We all sit on my bed at night and cozy up. I am content, don't need any thing, but once I "minimalize" I will be much happier. Then I won't feel guilty relaxing when I know there is so much to do.

@@patriciacerwin6266 Dana is right up your alley then, because her approach to decluttering is to do what you are able to in the moment, taking care of each object start to finish, without creating a big mess by pulling a whole bunch of things out to go through. It may seem counterintuitive at first, bc most organizers tell you to do a whole bunch of sorting and then put it all away at once, so Dana's approach feels like you're retracing your steps - for example, if you make 3 separate trips to take things from the kitchen to the bedroom. But, the advantage for people with limited energy is that when you've done all you can for the day, you're completely done! There's no piles still to put away, no sorted boxes of stuff to carry to other rooms. You just say, ok, I've done all I can for now, so I'll go rest, and come back to this spot later and work some more.

we were near homeless over 2.5 years ago, it was very hard. We lost all our furniture and everything with it. I was heartbroken for so long. Now with your positive attitude, I am starting to see the silver lining. We live in a basement suite, started to get furniture, second hand, but so nice and I have started to follow my therapists' advice and started creating again. I made some nightgowns and did some repairs and upcycling with my old clothes. I see that what I love about my home is the second bedroom turned office/library and the lovely hard wood floor in the living area as well as the more convenient kitchen which allows me to cook again. I need to be grateful for all the blessings provided by our Creator! Also, I have a beautiful kitten who brings me so much joy. 💝

Home is my favorite place to be. Our home is in a quiet corner of the neighborhood and we have the BEST neighbors. My quiet time is jigsaw puzzles. It helps to distract my mind from the stress of the day, and I have a couple of people I exchange puzzles with. I have found that any stress I feel at home is because of those I share it with. I love them dearly, so their wants are very important to me, but they have different ideas about how much noise to make, what to watch on tv and when it's ok to talk on speaker phone LOL!

My most favorite thing in my home (besides my cat Cookie), is a cake plate from my Grandmother. I have many fond memories of going to Grandma’s home and having birthdays where she would put our cakes on that cake plate. Right next to the cake plate is a picture of me when I was very young sitting on a table next to my birthday cake on that cake plate. It was so long ago . . . but I can close my eyes and remember my Grandma taking that picture. Thank you for inspiring us to take joy in the little things!

What I love about our home is the wood fireplace that the dogs sleep in front of 😄, and I have a big kitchen with a lot of counter space that never seems enough when I'm canning or making Christmas cookies lol 😂😂. I got out of the habit of cleaning up my home at night because I was working a late shift and by the time I got home I was too tired to make an effort so I would wait until morning. Today I worked an early shift and spent time cleaning the house and tomorrow I will finish organizing the storage room and put away the canned tomatoes I have on my island. At least if anyone comes over I won't be embarrassed to invite them in. please don't think I'm a slob or dirty I just haven't had the time to really pick up like I usually do..such is life.

I absolutely love my home! I have always lived with roommates or in rooms for rent, and this is my first apartment that is my very own, and I love it. I loved it when I was sitting on the floor eating my dinners before I had furniture, and I love the Spanish flair of my home now. I believe you have got to be comfortable in your own home and decorate it how you like. I always struggle with discontentment and over spending when I scroll on my phone. I decided I don't need anyone to tell me how my home should look. Most of all, I am so grateful that my home is warm, I always have healthful food to eat, and that I have somewhere I belong. Many blessings to you and thank you for your quiet time idea. A game changer! Blessings, Miko from Maryland

You just reminded me that I need to change the table cloth in the kitchen. Thanks!
As an introvert, home is where I'm most comfortable.
Once a week or so I have to declutter. I can't think straight with a lot of clutter. I will not live with dirty dishes in the kitchen! I just can't do it.
A quiet bag is such a good idea. I spend way too much time on screens. That's always my go to if I have spare time. I should find other things to do.
I am so grateful to have a roof over our heads and a kitchen to cook in and a place to shower and a warm bed. But mostly I think I'm glad to be able to grow our own food every year. I love it that we can do that. And that we live in a safe neighborhood.

Since Covid disrupted our lives, I have fewer overnight guests and the cabin doesn't get used much. I can enjoy that space without anything or anyone bothering me. Many of the people we know live in much richer more “desirable” communities, but whenever people come ver they always say how welcoming and homey our house feels.i am so grateful for that. We just downsized from a three bedroom home in Indiana to a two bedroom apartment in Arkansas. I'm having a hard time finding something I absolutely love about our new home while we're still decluttering and unpacking. I'm bored to tears because I've lost my craft space and haven't started my new job yet. Which will be from home so spending 24/7 with my husband, which wasn't supposed to happen for another few years, has been an adjustment for the past month. But I'll keep looking for something I love. I do need to put together my quiet time bag which is an excellent idea, but I'll probably have to go to the bedroom to take advantage of anything quiet.

My fireplace brings me joy. I never grew up with a fireplace and always wanted one in my home. When I purchased my house, it didn't have a fireplace so I installed a no vent gas fireplace. It has kept my home warm for 25 years and even got me through an 8-day power outage when we had a terrible snow storm in October many years ago. When I bought the fireplace I didn't like the surrounds that were being sold to go with them so I had a carpenter make a brick facade for the front of it to match the age of my home which was 1923 Craftsman. The fireplace runs constantly in the fall and winter. It is more efficient than running my furnace because it is not vented out so it saves me money and is beautiful to look at. The other thing in my home that brings me joy as I'm sure will not be a surprise to you are my three adorable little dachshunds. I don't know what I would do without them! Two of them are currently curled up on my lap at the moment as I voice type into my phone. They've had their dinner so they're all very content and ready for their early evening nap. It is very challenging with all of the messages we are bombarded with by television and social media. I am learning to not bring new things into my home unless I absolutely need them. I already have 25 years of stuff and I need to be getting rid of some of it. Thank you so much Emmy and Paul for your guidance and friendship in your videos.

Now I am thanking God every day that I have a bed, pillow, blanket, shower, a roof over my head, food and a kitchen to cook and most of all my family. For the question of the day: I have the 45" round coffee table (my mother had a regular table cut down) that was a focal point in my parents house growing up. It sits now in our family room. It brings warm happy memories. Most of my home is filled with items that use to be in my parents and grandparents homes. It brings me comfort.

I have a number of things I enjoy. One is 3 rose pictures like the one behind you.LOL. My son had found a folder with a number of different rose pictures. In my bedroom, and no matter the temp or month I have roses. Another almost free collection is pretty cards friends have sent me and I have framed and decorated. Tiny angels that pop up here and there. A quilt my neighbor made and gave me in appreciation of our friendship. Soft background music. Scented candles or potpourri simmering in my old electric warmed. Flowers, artificial and a splurge from Aldi. Pictures of my family on the frig. My collection of books bought cheap at the library. Our old cat sleeping in the living room. My great grandpa's picture hanging in my living room. 2 or 3 friends I talk to once or twice a week. So many, many things that create joy without costing but pennies.

I love the idea of a Quiet Time Bag. I'm going to make one for myself and hopefully it will help me break my phone/internet/computer addiction. LOL. I really am blessed to have a home. I would say some of my favorite things are my back deck with pergola, I have a lovely view of my pond and our large lawn. I also enjoy my bathroom that we remodled about 8 years ago. I think the hardest part of being at home (we live on a mini farm) is that there is always something to do, something to fix, something to clean up, etc. You have to really just let those things go and put them out of your mind, there will always be another day. Find joy in every day.
