Most of the push from ARMY for things like Billboard comes from the members themselves. The saying goes “what Yoongi wants, Yoongi gets.” Most ARMY don’t give a crap about BB, other than realizing how useless they are as a mirror to the music people are listening to. But they matter to BTS because there’s a part of them that want ps validation from the US music industry. That’s not a knock at BTS - it’s completely natural to want industry recognition. We played Billboard’s game, we played by their rules, and we gamed them.
Western music has never seen anything like ARMY. We are like ants, and to quote from Bull Durham, “you get three ants together, they can’t do dick. You get 300 million together and they can build a cathedral.”
We work to build cathedrals for BTS.
That's exactly what I was trying to get at. Was to show the industry that they ARE a force in the industry that CANNOT be counted out or discredited. Not so much for fans that already knew how large they are but so that the industry even wack as BB would have to acknowledge this. Just my thought. BTS is smarter than the industry here in the west which they have proven by playing the game and winning this people anger about the situation lol because they figured it out and beat them at it which I think is totally hilarious and yet satisfying. Good for BTS and continued victory over the machine.

If not for becoming Army i wouldn't have realized how manipulated those charts and award shows are, and how white- or western- centric they are. And also how many artists are on the short end of the stick when it comes to their contracts with record labels. How much or how little freedom they have...
To be honest, when I was looking into BTS in 2019, I first fell for ARMY. I was amazed at the number, the intelligence, and how organized ARMY is. From there I digged why ARMY is so powerful and found the foundation, BTS, their personalities, and messages hooked me.

Thanks for the reaction and for your words. Yes, regardless of the artist, they need to learn how to play the good ol' game to breakthrough on a bigger scale, and not only that, but not to "sell your soul" in the process. RM's latest log was extremely bittersweet for the fandom, because even when he was talking how impressed they (bts)' ve been with the response to dynamite, he went on about previous statements said by himself, and in an implicit way, it was easy to understand that it has taken a toll on them. Said statement is the one about "music transcends language", that he still wants to believe in it and such.
That is one of the main reasons why, we have to go even harder with the next album because it takes their personal craftsmanship to another level, something that they have wanted to do for so long, and we want to reward them by letting them know that we appreciate what they do.
Very well said, dear fellow Army. I was watching the very same and by you mentioned Vlive and I could feel his concerns and doubts as well. Deep inside I want to believe that it will all pan out the way it is supposed to. No other artist has ever managed to touch me on such a deep level as BTS and never before have I got so invested in any act as I have done with them. They are quite special and unique like that. At the same time I do realize they are NOT making music for everybody. They just don´t. Their music demands engagement, emotional intelligence and willingness to listen. Compare Dynamite and Tear, compare Dynamite and Hip Hop Lover, compare Dynamite and Blood Sweat and Tears.... I hope Joonie realizes that not everyone can, will or is able to appreciate what they have compared to Dynamite ( easy, light, bubbly, good feel song with very little depth to it) .

MONQ, this is why ARMYs say BTS eat CD's because they sound the same live and that's because their voices are not messed with in the studio. Some people just don't understand that so "they" say BTS lip sync LOL which they don't😂😛

I understand why they made the comment and I also understand your point of view too, Monq. Loved this video, it really made me think. In my opinion, I agree that BTS didn't need billboard, and billboard/the rest of american award shows needed to conform to fit in bts because the fanbase basically overthrew the industry. Like you said, the power is in the fandom and the numbers said it all so billboard had to succumb to it. It was like they were obliged to. However there is a couple small elements I can think of for bts to benefit from these. Like mentioned before I too, don't think BTS needs the awards shows , and they are already on the map in plentiful leaps and bounds all over america. However, there are still those tough nooks and corners that they don't seep into. We as music lovers and people who understand the industry know BTS is a monster group that doesn't need anyone else to "validate" them, but people who are super exclusive and americanized with their music choices may have not heard of or checked out BTS before the awards shows. Actually in Canada they aren't super well known, most people just say they don't know who that is when I ask, or they have heard the name, let alone even know what kpop is. (Atleast in the smaller cities. But even the bigger cities BTS aren't extremely popular.) It is harder to reach a large global scale population than we think, but BTS has done an amazing job so far. I also think they are just fine how they are regardless of how many more people know about them or not, but a part of me always wants more people to get to know them and enjoy their music. At the end of the day I agree with you Monq, I just think that it is a way for them to reach the people who would never even think to expand their mindset. The hard headed close minded ones. Lol. Best thing I ever did in my life was expand my music exploration and gain knowledge about other cultures. Its a humbling experience.
Well said Monq! BTS deserved to be noticed by billboard with their huge discography of amazing Korean songs, that they wrote! Before they sang purely in English. The army has always known and that’s why they are so successful, because army is huge! And dedicated!

I agree with you on the industry comments, but i also see the billboard #1 also from the point that BTS this way actually benefited from it and from English song by reaching some audience that was unfamiliar with them or had some apprehensions towards kpop. I like this picture of Troyan horse, where its like: here is funky summer song in English. Inside the horse: 150+ song catalogue all in korean😆
A very good point. Getting to #1 on Billboard with Dynamite is kinda bitter sweet. I like the song for what it is but it doesn´t belong to my favorites by no means. I understand its purpose, I understand the context, timing, language... still it got to me when RM had his vlive a couple of weeks ago and opened up about Dynamite, how they feel about its success, their new album they are working on and music in general and questioned if audience even bothers to pay attention to the lyrics they put so much work into. Dynamite got us #1 and its still BTS, yes, but it is not even their song. Nothing in it came from them ( by their own choice), so they got to #1 with the least BTS-esque song. Sucky. For him as for one of the main creative brains in BTS it must feel "weird" (?)
But yeah, if more people became aware of them because of Dynamite but BTS can continue and freely create with no restriction, pressure or compromises I am happy....

Monq, I'll be very honest too.. many ARMY learned about the BB, Grammys, all of these awards BECAUSE BTS said they want to achieve these goals at some point. Most of us dont give a flying f about these corrupt institutions. I'm sure BTS know better than us how utterly awful these institutions are but they also want to prove that they can do it - everything these clowns with backing can do...and they can do it better. Thats all. BTS still dont get the respect they deserve. Things western artists get just for existing. In part, this is because they're a foreign force, part cause of stereotypes and in part because the US Industry isnt earning anything off them (Theyre not signed to a US label - still managed by BH). What ARMYs want is that respect for BTS.. and if the industry wont look, we'll make them :)

I also understand that psychologically, after having been ridiculed, sabotaged, hated and kicked around since day one (both in Korea and abroad) and after all that hard labor, waiting and hoping, its natural to crave validation .....
