    The hobby store has been my go to for creative fly tying materials, colored beads, jewelry wire, and ultra cheap dyed feathers that work great for wings and throats on streamers

      found those minus any beads that fit on hooks...

    50 years ago my father and his friends took me with them to fish chew valley lake UK. We fished from the bank and after a not so good day they all went to the local pub. I watched as the rainbow trout crashed into the fry then just swam found and sucked in the stuned ones. I had too tear my flybox for floating material. I stripped a llure and rebound it with foam and white feather. Cast out, a little twitch ......bang 5lb rainbow! Caught 5 more as well!!

    Maybe my favorite fly. Definitely my favorite smallmouth fly. Tied with rabbit fur in the style of Tim Holschlag it is phenomenal!

    • @BuffaloWill
      @BuffaloWill 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, Holschlag's and Shenk weighting and use of rabbit is far superior to this version.

      @@BuffaloWill I think this yarn would be a good way of speeding up the tying of a shenk’s sculpin without much if any loss to the integrity of the original.

    Wow this was ridiculously easy to tie. Tried it on a trout stream and I was pretty surprised. None of the fish were big, but this is typical for this particular stream. Sometimes, it is the simple patterns that do the trick!

    This pattern looks killer! I have this material and I have been wanting to use it, but I didn’t think it would work. Thank you!

    • @ejtullis
      @ejtullis 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The material looks like blanket yarn. I also use it for a nice 4"-6" worm fly pattern. Warning ... the yarn absorbs water so the fly will get heavier during casting (avoid false casting). Tight lines!

    Interesting. I haven't tied shenks minnow but I have tied Shannon's streamer. Very very similar. Very easy to tie and effective. It behaves almost like the fly equivalent of a soft plastic fluke lure. Glides around, dips, darts, and if you time your strips you can get them to "walk". Neat fly 👍

    • @tightlinevideo
      @tightlinevideo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for that! I have not seen the Shannon's Streamer before, but that is one I'm going to have to tie. Kinda like a Shenks on steroids. Maybe even an underwater video comparing the action of the two. Again, thanks, cool pattern.

      @@tightlinevideo No problem 👍. Comparing the action would be neat. How different materials and profiles effect the action. Very neat and simple patterns!

    When I learned how to tie this fly pattern it was called the Shannon Minnow many years ago .....since then I have tied them in many colors including your white one here .....I have caught a lot of Halibut on these in my local lagoons on the west coast .....Great simple pattern that works well for many species .....fresh or salt water ! .....PS .....I call it ( The Flying Tampon )

      Chris, the term 'bitter end' refers to the loose end of any working line. I first heard it in Navy boot camp 53 years ago.
