Some one or people advised you NOT to laugh, because it is "unprofessional". This is absolutely WRONG!!!
I will explain it to you why.
I have a degree in Speech Communication, Radio, TV and Film. I not being "khav theeb" or sawv los explain to you from ntawm "hav nyom" as Hmong's old saying.
1. You are not a public servant at the DMV, City Hall, a bank teller or or any other public service office. Why laughing is "unprofessional"???
2. You have to ask yourself the most important question. What is the purpose of my show?
The number ONE answer is: To entertain your audiences or listeners any way you can.
3. The natural reaction from you relating to any topic of your story including, laughing, sadness, cry, tear in your eyes, angry, upsetting should NOT be "unprofessional" as you were told. When you react to a story the way you did in the past, it was just tells your viewers and listeners what you are telling is true to it contents. That's why you have a natural reaction to the story you are telling. And it is real life situation, real life story! And again, why "unprofessional"??? It just makes my head spin!
You don't want to sit and tell your stories every day with a stone-cold face! That's will be "unprofessional" for sure.
Rule of thumb for entertainment:
1. Be creativity
***Create something else to your story to make it more interesting
2. Keep your audience entertain
***Do something to keep your audience to get involved or allowing them to enjoy it.
3. Be as realistic as you can be
***Create something to your story to tell your audience that it is real life situation. It can be a made up or fiction or untrue story but you turn it to a real life. Just like most the Hollywood movies. "Fiction".
Invite your husband to read my comment here as well. I appreciated it, if you guys can give me a feedback, whether you agree with me here or don't laugh as you were told by someone else.

Ignore those people telling you not to laugh! There is nothing unprofessional about showing emotion, just like when your heart breaks along with all the sad stories and you cry (although, for your own health, I know you are trying not to get too emotional).
