People just don't think of Ukraine when thinking about going somewhere for vacation. I decided to go there just out of the blue and now I go there every year. Great food, great nature and beautiful ladies everywhere.
It's like that meme: "When a guy shows a picture of something vs when a girl does" and the girl's one has her face in it and the guy's photo is just a photo of the object.
I agree with you 150% , I ended in Kiev back in 2012 and then made it a point to continue exploring backwards and forth from Sydney Australia till April 2015 and I will return back in August 2017 . Odessa and Simferopol I have done but I adore Kharkiv . The people are magic , absolutely Amazing . A warmest Smile from Sydney Australia Ric
Hi Alina. It's my third day in Kyiv and I am already in love with this city! This is not the best time to visit Ukraine but it's beautiful even without the green trees. I think I will visit here again in the summer.
YES!!!! YES!!! YES!!!! Love the video!!!! I grew up during the Cold War era and was in my early 20's when the Soviet Union fell. Prior to that, Eastern Europe was a place you knew existed, but we American's didn't know anything about. I've always been fascinated with Europe in general and very much so regarding Eastern Europe and when the Iron Curtain fell, a whole new world opened up to explore. Alas, with work and time, don't have a chance to visit Ukraine right now - but one day before I do, I've going to see Kiev with my own eyes. I've watched tons of videos about Kiev and Ukraine in general and fell in love with the country and it's people!!! Love the video!!!! Great job!!!!!
Alina, i have followed your channel for some time including the Tour of Kiev's Best Attractions. My best wishes are with you and the people of Ukraine during the current crisis. This is especially the case with whatever family you nay currently have in Ukraine. God Bless!!!!
I was there in November 2013 two weeks before riots and I need to confirm what the lady is talking about. For me Kiev visit was my best visit of foreign town in last 10 years. Great food, great dancing, great events and for reasonable prices. Puzata Chata is the best fast food all on the Globe :-)
So it's been a year since I visited Kyiv, and I just re-watched your video to reminisce. It's cool being able not only to recognize the places you show in the video but to know what other sights are lying around the corner. One of my favorite little sights in Kyiv was the Eternal Love statue in Kreschaty Park (which was not far from another favorite, the Monument to the Frog). Then there's the hedgehog statue from Yuri Norstein's film Ёжик в тумане, and then there's the Frail Girl statue down by the river at the Holodomor Memorial. Simply put, Kyiv is a fabulous city. I'm so happy I was able to visit, and I can't wait to return. And thank you for both introducing me to the city sights but also for helping me remember them so fondly.
Was in Kiev in September. The weather was perfect during my trip and had the best time. So many great memories. I loved it! Was even able to see Madama Butterfly at the opera house. $9 for the best seats in the house! Great sushi at Yoshi Fujiwara. I would love to go back, for sure. Thanks for making your videos.
Hey Alina, a great video again. In this video you gave answers tot the questions I put in an other video half an hour ago. So : yes Kiev goes on my bucket list. To do after the corona period !
I have been looking to go to Mexico to get dental work done. But the clinic I talked to haven’t got back to me. So I’m checking out Ukraine. It’s always been a dream of mine to go to Ukraine to Kiev, and Pripyat. Czech Republic, Prague, and Hungary, Budapest are also on my list. All beautiful cities, I just have never been. Checking out things to do in Kiev if I do go there. Dental work is so expensive in Canada.
Very interesting city especially for me as I aim to go there later in year, live with my lady friend, learn from her, so all insights are very welcome to me. Thanks !
Compared to most other European cities, Kyiv is a definite bargain and a wonderful city filled with many wide boulevards (like K-street), impressive architecture almost everywhere you look, beautiful historic churches, cobblestone streets and great food at a low price. I have been there several times and even though i speak English, i have never had any language barrier problems or experienced any safety concerns. Have to agree with Alina, the art district (Andriyivsky Uzviv) with all the bargains and local art work is probably my favorite place, but Independence Square, the Monastery (including the nearby churches) and the Stare Misto area with many historic gov't buildings/embassies including the famous 'Golden Gates' are all closely behind. The metro is cheap, efficient and beautiful too. Go to Kyiv and you will surely be impressed.
Your videos are very interesting for me, I've been all those places you visited, Kiev, Japan, Barcelona, etc., and I adopted my wife's 5 year old son after visiting Ukraine several times, and brought them both to California. Dmitry is now 17. I even speak Russian. Our visits to grandma and grandpa looked just like the video you made visiting yours. Seem to have had all the same problems with dating and partners too. Even the flower bonnet you wore was familiar, my wife did the same in Donetsk. Best wishes.
I was there just last month. My first visit there and I loved it. Didnt get to see as much as I wanted....maybe next time. I think I saw most of what you showed though!!
Thankyou so so very much for doing your vlog's,I really enjoy your presenting of the countries, places of interest, your life & outlook from your pov.I am going to be visiting Ukraine later this year hence finding your vlogs but also I will be going to Canada & one of the many things I am looking fwd to is the scenic train rides.Keep it up & here is to your positivity catch more of your vlogs 😃😉
I went to Ukraine 2 months before Euromaidan. I remember that it was pretty expensive. Center is not that big, all the sights can be explored pretty fast. Oh course the best part was dancing people in that main square. So much fun and energy. And I saw many people doing anime costumes - that was a nice surprise.
Hi Alina, going there for the first time in May 2017 my mom is Ukrainian and to meet a special friend! Kind of surprised what value compared to my Canadian dollars I will go there again for sure. Many Ukrainians here in Alberta the Pysanka festival in Vegreville, Alberta each year in early July is a must.
Hey David, yes, Ukraine is insanely inexpensive with our conversion rate. I grew up in the prairies and there's definitely a very large population of Ukrainians there. Very hard working people. Enjoy your trip!
I first watched your video Local view of Kiev: Parks, Markets, Subway and Ukrainians. It was great and made me appreciate Ukraine and kiev from a distant place. I am in Nigeria and will be in Kiev this year. This video makes me long to be in kiev. And you are very beautiful
Such a awesome video. Talked me into visiting Ukraine. I never thought of it because I didn't know the language, but as long as you can get around without knowing the language, I'm in.
traveling is your memory, when your young you can do it and you enjoy it, when your retired, your not going to want to go. Even at 50 you might feel like staying home, due to arthritis or spending thousands of dollars, but it is worth it. You only live one's. I ate at burger king to keep moving and seeing the city i have traveled to but i should have been in a nice resturant, enjoying the food and meeting the people.
I've done a couple of 2 week trips to Kiev, love the place and plan on more. There is so much more I want to see and do. As you say it is not an expensive place to visit if you are on a tight budget (Which I wasn't). I found a nice place to eat in the morning (XATA) and could fill up for most of the day at not a lot of pounds (GBP not lbs). The Metro is great, one token and pretty much the city is your oyster. I am going on that Zip wire across the river too the next time.
That's awesome! There really is so much to see and do. If you haven't already, make sure you take in some shows at the opera theatre for ballet. Unbelievably good. I have a vlog of it in my Kiev Local Guide.
I just came back from Ukraine. Loved the city of Kiev. Gorgeous Churches, Delicious food :) Went from Kiev to Khust in train with my American backpack (13hrs with the most amazing landscapes) beautiful natural beauty, mountains rivers and bridges. So safe to travel. A lot historical cities. simply Amazing trip. Can wait to go back!
I really enjoyed your video. Ukraine is the one place in the world where I really want to go the most. You did a great job promoting this beautiful city, Thank you for sharing it.
I adore these vlogs Alina! I'm so excited to head to Kyiv in a few weeks. I was just wondering what language is spoken the most in Kyiv? Is it Ukranian or Russian? I want to learn a bit before I go! xoxo
Thank you Alina so much for this video. This month I had about 6 days time off that I wanted to use for traveling to some European city. After seeing your video, I decided to give Kiev a shot. Within a week of watching your video I flew from UAE to Kiev. I reached there with temp. between -2 to -10. I had arranged for a private tour guide before reaching there. And let me tell you, it was one of the best trips I have had in my many years of traveling. I had a blast. Kiev has so much history. Very interesting. Beautiful city. Watched Opera. Visited many museums and Cathedrals. People in general sound rude at first, but once you talk to them, they are actually simple and friendly people. Thank you again for mentioning Kiev. I am planning to explore Kiev a bit more this year. My next trip is planned in June-July so I could try the zipline at Dneiper as it was closed in February.
You bet. Lviv is already on my list. Planning a week in May. Probably 3 days in Kiev and 3-4 days in Lviv. Can't wait to stuff myself with Деруни. keep up the good work .. :-)
Jan. 2017. Indo-Canadian / Torontonian and Ryersonian. Currently in Kiev. Been to Lviv recently. (Uploaded 2 videos on my channel) Loved visiting Ukraine. Can relate to your video. Good job with this video, and a few others (comparing life in Ukraine vs. Canada)! Yes, the Loonie stretches far here... Enjoyed your role in "You Know You are Dating a RUSSIAN Woman When..." Good luck with your modeling and acting career, and everything else, Alina!
I saw something on Eurovision years ago, checking now I assume it must have been the Golden Gate, I thought there might be big walls as well. Thanks for responding
Hello! Ukraine has always been one of my favorite countries, for someone who is extremely interested in history. How long should one stay in Kiev & Lviv? To be able to soak up the history and sites.
Hey there, I'm so glad you're interested in Ukraine. It depends what all you'd like to see, but I'd say an absolute minimum of 3 days in Lviv and ideally at least 5 days in Kiev. If you had a jam packed day every day you could see a lot of each, but I would recommend adding a couple days at both places to fully enjoy it. Hope you have a great time!
Hi!, Thanks for replying, I've loved Eastern Europe since I was a kid and Ukraine has always been one of my favorites. 6 days in Kiev & 4 in Lviv should be great.
I went to Kiev 2 weeks ago and I saw some of those places I was on a 19 hour layover which was too long too stay at the airport but too short to visit I felt. I am hoping to visit Kiev and Ukraine again at some point in the future. I definitely recommend people to give this place a go and it's inexpensive.
I've been there Alina! I even had one of those Disney like characters who are background behind you in an animal suit come up to take a picture with me--until I realized it was his / her? way of getting a tip! ha ha
Hi, Alina: Thank you for the introduction and recommendation visiting Ukraine. I had been there few times. This time I am looking for soul-mate there. I have a dating agency who has office in Canada and USA. Most likely I will be traveling some time this year or early next year. Enjoy your trip to Ukraine.
Love Kiev. Been there twice...in winter. Not the best time to go as the snow doesn't seem to be plowed especially in the maidan area. Wonderful cuisine too.
I Been wanting to viset for years, i plan to viset in late 2017 and stay for around 3 weeks..i very interested in ukraine and the culture.thank you very much for the video.regards doug
Although I came across your channel through another subject, it is a terrific treat to see your videos relating to Ukraine. I very much want to visit Ukraine, and even though my casual Ukrainian Duolingo studies underscore I have apparently no aptitude to learn the language, watching videos on a couple of TH-cam channels, reading books, and even learning a few words in Ukrainian helps keep a future trip in focus. So thank you. I look forward to the second part of the tour. It's going to be a twelve - fifteen part series, right? :)
Great video. I have been to ukraine 6 times and I'am planning on returning. Odessa is a very fun city with great restaurants and arcadia beach. She is right ukraine is a bargain and very safe
It's weird hearing you speak flawless English with a Canadian accent and then transition seamlessly to flawless (to my untrained foreign ear) Russian. It's not a combination you hear very often. I'd love to be bilingual.
Youre right all you said... in from Argentina and i got my ticket to go to ukraina next may ... love that part of europe ... so different so cool place... i love love so much your traditions... kiev and lvov ill visit... i just can not wait to eat vereniky borsch and drink kvas.. greetings from Kordova Argentina.
I am going to Kiev and Istanbul in August and I agree with you lots of people like to go to the west and so do I but I am open to go anywhere providing it's safe and I have done quite a bit of central and Eastern Europe travel and I feel that those countries have a lot to offer some are really cheap in some ways and about the same in others.
Very nice video Alina, thanks for posting. I lived in Kiev for 15 months and absolutely loved it. My two favorite cities in Europe are Kiev and Prague. Both have wonderful exchange rates on currencies making them a tremendous value for the traveler. Both cities have very rich histories, you cannot visit 1,000 year old cities in the USA. Kiev is very safe, the food is great (except for salon and meat jelly) and the people are very friendly. Some speak Russian (all understand Russian) some speak Ukrainian and some speak both languages at the same time. :) This made things difficult for someone's whose Russian that is only so-so. :) Occasionally, I would encounter folks that if you spoke to them in Russian they would not acknowledge they understood you, they only responded in Ukrainian but this was rare. I am planning a return visit this summer, cannot wait. Your English is perfect, better than a native speaker. If you want to be a native speaker you need to make more grammatical errors :)
haha thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed Kiev, really is such an amazing city. Prague is somewhere I have yet to go so will definitely keep it in mind. I also greatly dislike the jellied meat. So many friends of mine love it, but it just turns my stomach. Wishing you many great travels!
Thank you. I wish you many great travels as well. Prague was the only major European city that was not bombed during WWII, everything is original architecture. I got to see Don Giovanni in the opera house that Mozart wrote and performed it. Definitely a place to consider going. :)
One last thing I forgot to ask you Alina. The zip line across the Dneiper, have you tried that? I've got to do that before they bury me 6 feet under!!! That looks like so much fun!!!! But with my luck, jaws will be in the river waiting for the zip line to break and have lunch fall into his open jaws - and with my luck, I'd be lunch. But if you have tried let, how scary is it?
Yes, you should definitely try it! I personally have not done it, but my cousin did and loved it. I've done many other ziplines before and it's honestly not as scary as you think it's going to be. This one would have an amazing view as well!
I totally agree with Alina. Go to Ukraine and you will fall in love with the country! I have been ten times in Ukraine and never felt unsafe. Fantastic food, beautiful architecture and amazing people. I have been to Kiev and Kharkiv( second largest city) and Odessa and some minor towns. Highly recommended to go there.
Hey! I have a stopover in Kiev, and I have about 12 hours to spend in the city. I was wondering if you have any tips for me. I going on a solo journey to recharge and center myself. I really like architecture, so would you know like the top 3 things that I should see in Kiev on that day? Thanks and greets!
Hey, well for sure the best architectural masterpieces are going to be the churches; St Michael's Cathedral, St Sophia and Vladimirskiy Cathedral. They are all stunning and worth visiting. The main square on Kreeshateek is overall near the first two churches, so that might make a good layover visit. Have fun!
Attracted by title, I was excited and looking forward to see attraction specially new ones. Did not see my city where I was born and raised for more than 20 years. And what did I see? Pretty girl, definitely very pretty presenting my City as some kind of commercial agent. Very sad😥😥😥
Алина, Я был в Киеве в июне 2016 года, а в июне 2017 года, как можно скорее, я снова приеду в этот прекрасный город! I was in Kiev in June 2016 and in June 2017, as soon as possible I will visit this beautiful city again!
I’m going to make an observation, and it’s very general...but here goes: obviously you are very beautiful, but you also possess that intelligence and maturity European women have. And while I know you were raised in Canada, you definitely have that European educated sensibility. You seem like a very well-rounded person and kind. I find that extremely attractive North American women tend to (and again, I am painting with broad strokes) lean on their looks and sometimes can be lacking in the personality or integrity departments (this goes for males, too). You can tell you were raised by a good European/Ukraine/Russian mother, as you have common sense and perspective. Hope this comes across as intended, which is as a compliment. Cheers, from a fellow Canadian and traveller.
Nice video Alina. I was in Kiev last month. Amazing big city. I couldn't visit everything but really enjoyed my stay. I made a couple of Ukraine friends as well. Next destination is Lviv. 😉
People just don't think of Ukraine when thinking about going somewhere for vacation. I decided to go there just out of the blue and now I go there every year. Great food, great nature and beautiful ladies everywhere.
I'm glad you liked it!

haha that's wonderful!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
I would also highly recommend Lviv if you get the chance. A simple overnight train ride away!

Thank you so much and glad you enjoyed Ukraine :)
I usually won't get distracted while you are talking but 6:02 those random dudes fighting in the back cracked me up 😂
It is a very charming and beautiful place.
Very very very Good.
👍👍
Wonderful tour of Kiev city 👍👍👍
wow great , sure i will love to visit and see Kiev city
what a wonderful place! I'm very impressed!
I'm glad you liked it!
Beautiful city (and guide.) Does the city have old defensive walls no V blogs seem to show them.
No defensive walls as far as I'm aware.
I saw something on Eurovision years ago, checking now I assume it must have been the Golden Gate, I thought there might be big walls as well. Thanks for responding
Haha im in love!! 😍 hard to stay focused 😝 but you should add text so its easier to snap up the name and google it
Was in kyiv and lviv recently and love it 😍
I love Kiev was there in 2015 and will be there in 2017 :) for youth camp to spend time with the kids :) :)
I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself!
Fantastic, like a rolling Pictures of an Exhibition!
Glad you liked it!
Very interesting plus it's enjoyable to look at you.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Alina. What about Dnepropetrovsk? Some say that that city is the Jewel of the Crown, between Kiev, Odessa, Kharkov and Lugansk. What do you think?
You know I've personally never been there, so I can't exactly comment, but many friends say it's amazing. Definitely worth visiting.
Woow she is beautiful
i agree and im Russian
Clearly you have not been to any Slavic countries.
You got an Irish last name though, is that your married name?
@Robert M
Lolwut?
that's what i said
I've been there Alina! I even had one of those Disney like characters who are background behind you in an animal suit come up to take a picture with me--until I realized it was his / her? way of getting a tip! ha ha
It’s good feeling for return to home
Hi, Alina: Thank you for the introduction and recommendation visiting Ukraine. I had been there few times. This time I am looking for soul-mate there. I have a dating agency who has office in Canada and USA. Most likely I will be traveling some time this year or early next year. Enjoy your trip to Ukraine.
Love Kiev. Been there twice...in winter. Not the best time to go as the snow doesn't seem to be plowed especially in the maidan area. Wonderful cuisine too.
Yeah, winter can be a little dreary. Summer is magical.
I stayed in the apartment over your shoulder. I love Kiev!
Awesome,so beautiful country,I would love to be there someday!
Thank you for your video!
Nice video!
I Been wanting to viset for years, i plan to viset in late 2017 and stay for around 3 weeks..i very interested in ukraine and the culture.thank you very much for the video.regards doug
Glad you liked it and hope you have an awesome trip!
Thanks for showing all the attractions, now I don't need to travel to Kiev anymore hahahaha, nice video and you're a beautiful tour guide.
I have the loveliest Ukrainian friends here in Sydney. Looking forward to visiting Ukraine this summer.
haha I'm glad you liked it Christopher. There will be a part 2 for the time being ;)
Good video. Been to Kyiv three times. Love it.
Thank you! Glad you're a fan of Kyiv :)
Great video. I have been to ukraine 6 times and I'am planning on returning. Odessa is a very fun city with great restaurants and arcadia beach. She is right ukraine is a bargain and very safe
Love your expressive eyes
Looks really nice after Maidan Revolution. One day I will visit Kiev.
I'm so glad you liked it!!! All the best
Been 2 years since i watched this! I've been to ukraine now 4 times and i love it, everything about it 😁
Great video l am going to Kiev in a couple odd months
I am going to Kiev and Istanbul in August and I agree with you lots of people like to go to the west and so do I but I am open to go anywhere providing it's safe and I have done quite a bit of central and Eastern Europe travel and I feel that those countries have a lot to offer some are really cheap in some ways and about the same in others.
That would be an amazing trip. I haven't been to Istanbul yet and would really like to go. Happy travels!
Seeing preview -- "she's too beautiful to be a foreigner"
"I'm in my hometown..." -- "Aha! I knew it"
I totally agree with Alina.
Yes!!!
I will be in Kiev from 27th of June till 5th of July in Kiev for the Atlas weekend and the GOGOL fest. Will you also be there?
No, I live in Canada and just have family there. Have fun!
Parabéns pelo video, pelas dicas! Espero conhecer Kiev em breve...Thanks!!
Yeahh. I'm going to Kiev next week
Have fun!
@AlinaMcleod thank you for sharing such an beautiful video ... is Cherkasy a good place to visit ?? Btw your eyes are really beautiful Ma'am!!
Thanks for the tour! Very nice!!
Have fun!
Great, thanks! I also found out about a monastery with caves and a giant motherland statue nearby. What do you think of these sights?
Attracted by title, I was excited and looking forward to see attraction specially new ones. Did not see my city where I was born and raised for more than 20 years. And what did I see? Pretty girl, definitely very pretty presenting my City as some kind of commercial agent. Very sad😥😥😥
INCREDIBLE STUFF! WOW!! YOW!! THANK YOU! BLESSINGS!!
Alina McLeod from clan McLeod! What a beautiful eyes You have..
Thank you!
Is she?
definetly she's Duncan McLeod nephew, lol
@Cosmin Ciobanu I think she is McLeod by marriage-as in, her mother married a McLeod, who is her step-father. Alina, forgive me if I’m wrong.
Nice video Alina. I was in Kiev last month. Amazing big city. I couldn't visit everything but really enjoyed my stay. I made a couple of Ukraine friends as well. Next destination is Lviv. 😉
It's going to be Moscow first and then Lviv. 😉 Any Moscow videos ?
Your eyes are beautiful in the sunshine.
