As an African though not a Nigerian, I express the same defensiveness for the very same reason Chimamanda stated. I just wouldn’t have delivered it as eloquently!
It's not the foreigners' right to talk about what's wrong with Africa, especially when they played and are still playing such a monumental role in creating and maintaining those unfavorable conditions.
Don't point to them only,look at your leaders as well

Yes we complain all the time but we still have to face the reality in the midst of the instability hence the reason for us to work three times as much as anyone in developed nations. That's what makes us united. We work smart and hard. Its the mentality of people who want to or migrate to developed nations, that these nations have the opportunities we sought after but we who have grown to love the culture and history don't sought after anything but to grow the economy brick by brick.

Simply put psychological warfare. Nigeria is not alone most of the world was colonized by someone. Even Europe was colonized. The problem is how are you getting out of the conditions. What are your plans for escaping the traps you are in?
Truly, most of the most countries around the world were colonised, but colonisation is still going on in some Africa countries, especially Nigeria. The Colonial masters are doing all things to make sure that Nigeria remains under them as the y promote terrorism for them to to continue to steal and protect corrupt politicians who stole and keep the money in their country. One Ex-minister of petroleum stole over $ 2.5 billion and kept it in UK bank till today.

Good woman I'm greatfull for her expression. But being defensive is not and act of cawordness every fight started with quarrel so know where to start from not just jump enter a fight without not knowing who is wrong and who is Right before knowing who to face.
