I've just bought this as my second controller after the Numark Party Mix. I get the comments around the smart fader function perhaps dumbing things down and not forcing you to learn properly however what I've found is I use it to get me out a hole when practicing. Wherever possible I use proper methods to mix but if you find you're running out of time on the current track the smart fader lets you carry on quickly without disheartening you. A fail safe until you become more confident and proficient in your mixing is my opinion.
Been DJing 33 years (!), and just bought this. Already, it's great. For me, the key is that this is the OS you're faced with when you turn up at a club with CDJs. it's like Technics in the 1990s, no matter what you think of it, Pioneer *is* the industry standard.
And, also, if you're offered a bar gig, it's light enough just to stick in your bag and go. As I'm doing this Friday. :)

Smart Fader sounds like a better Sync button + automates everything a DJ is doing, waiting for the heavy hate mail to come in once "old" DJs know more about this!! 🤣🤣

Looks very nice. I’d like the ddj-800 level version of this with full sized wheels, multiple outs etc. would be a great complement to my CDJs
Another down to earth review for the people! Always enjoy your videos so thanks for doing them. What are your thoughts on too much automation and short cuts for entry level controllers? It sometimes feels that it will encourage new djs not to learn the “right way”.
But I guess it also helps people to get a buzz out of being able to make soon nice transitions early on in their journey.
Thanks so much for your comment Rohan, glad you're digging the vibes! It's an interesting question. I think you can look at these features as tools to learn and reciprocate rather than short cuts. Also remember, they are there, but you don't have to use them!
Out of the 20 plus reviews on this controller, this one makes the most sense explaining the features that make this one unique. I think this is the perfect mixer for me!

I used to DJ on Vinyl at the moment I have a Hercules Air + controller and I compose in Ableton Live 11, so I am considered getting a Push 2 and a more sophisticated Pioneer controller, what would you suggest?

Incorrect and you’re a month late!
I’m massively impressed with it for what I need as my first digital unit. Has opened up a world of possibilities I didn’t have as a vinyl mixer.
Also the smart fader doesn’t have to be used by newbies, it’s only really for fun mixing different bpm’s. And the smart CFX is an amazing add of numerous special effects.
@@EdPottsUK i don't agree with that but it shows how the art can be done by everyone and it isn't art anymore. Just pushing the buttons and that's it. So sad the art of DJing become something like this.

It’s exactly the same but with extra options.
I’ve used 1210’s since the 90’s and still love Vinyl but the FLX4 is great to just mix with.
You don’t have to use any of the so ‘called cheat buttons’.
So I ordered the FLX4....how do I load up on music now?
I signed up for Crate Connect but their latin music selection is pretty sad. Right now this is a hobby for me...just trying to learn how to dj and maybe do parties at my home. Let me know where I can easily load up on music to get started.
Could you map the pad trans effect on a ddj sb2 to a smart effect?
Credit where its due, i often feel Pioneer underperforms when releasing Rekordbox gear but this hits it out the Park and they deserve to sell many Millions of these for sure.
I wonder if they could release a Special Edition/revision version with a the old very basic display rotating LED that marks where your needle is like with the most of the older Pioneer controllers, thats a massive help when you get into scratching or any kind of basic platter manipulation.
Great controller though, tempted to pick one up when they drop the Phone support so i can sit on the Couch and do a little casual spinnin.
Hope some enterprising person comes out with a bracket to attach your Mobile and Powerbank to the top for that mobile all in one feel, even something 3D Printed would be sweet :)

If anyone is interested - I have a MIDI mapping for djay Pro / FLX4 (posted on the Algoriddim community forums). Works on iOS, macOS and over Bluetooth.
I primarily use DJay on my iPad due to my job (trucker) and can't always pull out the laptop. The FLX-4 does look like a great controller, and I am considering one for home use.
But unfortunately, it's a bit too big for practical use when I'm Over The Road. I'm rather hoping Pioneer DJ will release a FLX-2; something about the same size as the DDJ-200 or Party Mix II, and has some of the new options.

@djkit Been practicing beatmatching when time allows; pretty much a n00b still, so I haven't gotten as far as making a mix myself. Slowly getting better.

If your Serato is your primary i am gonna say rev1 cause it gives you more control all said, at least from what i have seen so far.
Does this controller work with VDJ? If yes how does the CFX work with VDJ or are these only available with Recordbox/serato?
It will probably work with VDJ soon, but I don’t think the CFX and the Smart fader, will work
Does it work with DJay app? I use the 400 with Djay. That’s the real reason I bought it!
It doesn't work with DJay yet, but they are pretty quick on MIDI mapping so I'm sure it will be compatible soon!
FLX4 USB connection problem after Win10 shuts down / restarts. 💥
After Laptop / PC power is OFF (restart / shut down / hibernate). Pioneer DDJ-FLX4 automatically disconnects from Windows. Helping only reattaching USB cable.

There are no built in FX on this controller, only software FX for Rekordbox or Serato!

Yes, absolutely! Both Serato and Rekordbox bridge over to iTunes so you can access all your playlists and music. However, this doesn't work with Apple Music.
Does it work with Tidal in the Uk?
Yes! Both rekordbox and Serato work with Tidal, it's great!
Is Smart Fader technology used on any other Pioneer controllers?
No
Not at the moment! This is the first time we have seen it!
Not exactly the smart fader as on the flx4 which changes the BPM along with echo effect while transitioning, the ddj 200 when using the wedj mobile on the iPhone has the option of adding various cut in and mix effects (from various options) automatically while transitioning from one deck to another via the cross fader.
@@djkit How about the use of Stems? Because you can use Serato Pro on this controller, would you be able to use the new stem technology?
So why is it the FLX4 vs. the FLX6? What do the numbers stand for?
I guess they use old hardware numbers as an upgrade, just like with phones.
And yes it's as difficult as with phones to keep track of what is the newest and/or best value for money.

Maybe when they first released the FLX6, it’s a product sit between the 400, 800 and 1000. Now this one is replace the DDJ 400 so I guess that’s how they named it now
My guess is the FLX6 is four (4) channels and can control both rekordbox and seratodj software (2) which is "flexible" between both dj software worlds. So FLX4 is a two channel version of the FLX6 and the replacement of the DDJ400 and DDJ SBx series and adding the bluetooth features of the DDJ200 controller. Kind of like how Denon just came out with their SCLive series and took components from numark mixtrack controllers, engine dj, and denon controllers.
That's a good question. As the DDJ-400 has been replaced with the FLX4, I assume we'll be seeing the FLX range replace the DDJ-800, and 1000 (FLX8 & FLX10..?)
FLX means flexible. That’s because they both can use serato and rekordbox

A controller with a usb-c port is not a reliable controller, the usb-c ports on the unit are subject to transport so unplug it frequently attach the wire is not exactly the best, the usb-A port as found on controllers is ideal pegress.

Pioneer are starting to lose grip a tad here. 3 reasons.
1 - only one UBC C to USB C cable comes with the unit.
If your laptop doesn't have a USB C socket, then you're going to have to buy another cable. A USB A to USB C is what you're going to need as most laptops still use USB A.
If you use and Android / Samsung phone, then your phone charger cable is exactly the cable you need.
2 - It does seem that the FLX4 will only work with Serato 3.0 and above. I've got 2.5 and the flx4 did not work
Meaning I've had to transfer to Rekordbox.
Upgrading Serato to 3.0.1 seems to be causing a lot of issues for users due to the increase processing power needed, which ultimately causes freezing laptops and pc crashes. Hence why I did not upgrade.
Either that or a new mid-high range laptop was needed. No chance
3 - The manual is about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Why there is no FLX 4 test with Virtual DJ? Why are you showing us only shitty software
Rekordbox and Serato DJ lite are included with the FLX4 and it's made to work with those and they are the two most popular softwares.
Virtual DJ is a great piece of software too although they don't work directly with the manufacturers or us. So it's down to the VDJ community to produce that sort of content.

If they’d just given us split cue instead of these 2 ‘smart’ gimmicks, it would gave been a good upgrade to the 400 … as it is, not interested.
The Mic routing is good, but really just as it should have been on the 400. BT option is a nice option, but cabled is always better. The Serato implementation will always be compromised somehow, because that’s how Pioneer rolls. KEEP THE GIMMICKS AND GIVE US SPLIT CUE !!!!
It's not quite Split Cue, but you can listen to both the master and headphone cue by pressing the cue button underneath the master volume knob. You control the sound using the headphone 'mix' knob.

Headphones hardwired I believe is the only way forwards but with smart mix... who needs headphones really LOL.... Moving from Dorset to Wokingham shortly....
