Nah, Mark Crossley for me. Downing is certainly the best player they have had and very honest, but Crossley's Clough and Bullard stories/impressions were funny AF
I'm Boro born and bred, I never boo'd Stewy once. He's a legend and a fantastic servant of the club. It was obvious there was more to the story and lots of us never trusted Karanka. Know this, Stewy, anyone who calls himself a Boro fan has nothing but respect and admiration for you.
Downing second season at West Ham first 4/5 months of season was outstanding alongside Alex Song who I’m surprised he didn’t mention 🤯 playing CAM really brought him out of his shell 👍🏻⚒
Genuinely could of listened to episodes 3,4, 5 and 6. Liked the fact he was an open book and let the fans see it from a player point of view rather than a club sugar coated press release.
@@Verolader Yeah I really rate Jack Wilshere. I’m a Newcastle fan and I would sign him up now on a pay as you play deal. I think him and Shelvey in the middle of the park would be great. How do West Ham fans rate him? The little games he played did he play well? Why did moyes put him in the stiffs?
Proud to say I have never booed Stewie or any Boro player. I simply don't boo my own team. I remember speaking to Stewie at Goals in Middlesbrough before he joined Blackburn. I asked him when he's getting his new contract and he told me he's not. I genuinely couldn't believe it, I told him that's ridiculous and I meant it, Stewie could and can still do a job for a team. His crosses are incredible. Appalled by how he's been treated by Boro. He's a Boro legend, a local lad and a great lad. I've watched him grow from a kid playing at Marton all the way to his retirement. Great lad 👍
As a Boro fan I actually felt ashamed hearing how he was treated by the club at the end. As he states it’s the dishonesty and bull shit, and how Warnock left upset me as he saved us from the disaster that would have been league one. Glad the truth is coming out about Karanka as while we got promoted I think playing wise he set the club back years
Stewy speaking facts on the Karanka situation. Minority of idiots boo'd him and calling for him to go at the stadium it wasn't all of us. I'm glad the fans know the story now and I'd love to see him working in our academy and helping develop our young talent.
Stewy Downing Boros best player to come through the youth ranks in recent years. I gave him a bit of stick a few years ago on a night out in Boro, I’d like to apologise. Top man and top player 👌
Im a blade from barnsley, ex army and i was based at catterick. I remember playing 5 a side in Boro after work one night. He pulled up in a yellow sports car as his brother was playing, we chatted for a few minutes, very polite, nice guy.

Top lad. Seems like he got messed about for the final 8 years really. He seemed to be a key part of the Liverpool team just before the 2013/14 season and was starting out wide before leaving for West Ham. Really honest chat 👍
Amazing how all the tops pros who made a top flight career are so humble and not got a bad word to say about anybody whilst the guys in League 1 who' dropped out the game slag everyone off and every manager is shit and to blame
Cracking podcast has a Boro fan so gutted the way it ended for one of our own finest players and the way he was treated. Great to hear from a players point of view on the Karanka days at Boro and the walkout too and great honest assessment on the premier League we could see has fans Boro did not not turn for that campaign and no wonder we relegated like we was with games to go. Great honest podcast and look forward to the next one. Hope you can Grant Leadbitter
Buzzing he's finally opened up on it all! I can't believe some fans think fondly of karanka. Gibbo keeping him there tells why we are where we are.Shambles!!!!!
I think Karanka was given licence to do what he wanted, and while we gained some success on the pitch the football was not great and very much a controlled way of playing. Certainly no plan B and I remember his dog at the fans when he played a game with two up front, a very arrogant individual. He has done nothing since leaving Boro which makes me wonder was it the players we had who helped as a unit despite Karanka. That season in the premier under Karanka was a disgrace, there is no way we could be described as giving it a go, I think Karanka would have been happy with 38 scores of nil nil
@@guyr7351 That's the catch. I admired that Boro unit who won, first of all, seven straight matches in the aftermath of the Adomah incident and then eight league matches out of nine following a 3-0 humbling at Hull - but, even though I didn't see it at the time, because we wanted wins and Karanka nearly always seemed to get them, it was an especially controlled, serious and intense way of playing. Even though we were winning, there was a tremendous edginess to it, as if there was immense pressure for not one pass, cross, clearance, header and so on to fall out of place. That may look very telegenic, and especially impressive when it all comes together - Brighton 0-3 Boro was one of those days when everything in the Karanka way *worked* - but it's not consistently sustainable over a prolonged period of time. With the whole two up front thing, yes, that comment was unnecessary, but I've sought to try and understand exactly why he said it. I think it wasn't simply a matter of two up front, or one up front, as a desire from the fans to see a change in tempo, more variance and more urgency in Boro's play. It should be added that in 2015-16, Karanka attained the highest amount of home wins in all four divisions - therefore, was there possible irritation in there, irritation that a debate was going on about style of play and the amount of players up front with such a high win ratio? This brings in the possible big debate over that season - a possible belief from some that we should have done better with the resources we had, versus a possible belief from others who saw our best statistics of the century and may have felt we had no need to question the means to a relatively successful end.
As a west ham fan i was gutted when Stewie left us but did understand as he was going back to his home team, football fans all over the country are so fickle these days its not surprising there isn't any loyalty from the players.
It's a bit hypocritical that he moans about Karanka falling out with players but then goes on to say Pulis fell out with players but he was alright with me and he was his favourite.
What goes around comes around like what he did with villa to an extent. Yeah O’Neill left then Houllier who he played better for but the fans were who supported him & paid his wages especially signing him injured. No surprise the majority of villa fans have distain for him.
The fans booing him for months is somewhat pushing it. Find it hard for sympathy with the money that he's earned. Really good player, amazing in his 1st spell

Absolute legend Stewy Downing. Infuriated me being in the stands hearing some our divvy fans giving him stick. So annoying hearing these stories and Gibson always painted out a saint and Karanka fucking us over. We should of built up from that Prem season and strengthened and had a good Man Manager.
As a Boro fan it’s shit what happened second time round; I personally didn’t boo you fella but Karania was a very well thought of man cos he got us playing well in a miserable time, that’s why fans who didn’t know the real story will have meant towards Aitor in the hope we carried on playing well That Charlton game was a fucking shit show, tensions were high, you’re a local lad done very well and I’ll always love your left foot which got your local team to a euro final
As fans it's easy to say players are mercenaries with no loyalty but we don't hear many stories like this of players getting screwed over after trying to be reasonable.
No wonder our club is in the shit. Steve Gibson needs to take responsibility for this. How can you treat a loyal servant and club legend like Stewart Downing, taking a pay cut, signing bullshit waivers in the hope of staying and being part of the coaching. Devoting his whole life to Boro and ruining his last 18 months of his career. This club is rotten to the core!
