MARTA's Lenox Station

Join MARTA's Customer Call Center employee Robyn Jeoffroy as she takes viewers on a tour of Lenox Station and the popular nearby destinations: Lenox Mall, Phipps Plaza, Legoland Discovery Centre, and the annual Peachtree 10K Road Race, July 4th Fireworks, and Macy's Tree Lighting. Lenox Station was opened in December 1984, along with four other MARTA rail stations (Lakewood/Ft. McPherson; Oakland City; Lindbergh Center; and Brookhaven/Oglethorpe. Lenox Station also contains a Time Capsule on the platform floor that will be opened on Georgia's 300th Anniversary in 2033. Items placed as part of the Semi-Quincentenary celebration in 1984 were carefully chosen to highlight the activities in the area, and make projections about life in the next 50 years. They included: Delta flight attendant uniforms; a genuine "Cabbage Patch" doll; a set of Thunderbird hubcaps; a baseball bat, pennant and ball from the Atlanta Braves; a medallion commemorating the break-up of AT&T; a photograph of the Georgia State Patrol's Trans Am; an autographed Atlanta Hawks basketball; numerous advertisements from Rich's department store; and numerous art pieces including a glass sculpture by Hans Froebel.

OHHHH, the memories!!! Circa 1990, lived in a condo (Plantation Heights) on Lenox Road in Buckhead. Took the Lenox Station MARTA every day to my legal secretarial job in the Peachtree Center downtown. The law firm was in Peachtree Center Tower. What a cushy way to get to work! From the MARTA Lenox Station to the Peachtree Center stop, up the Peachtree Center escalator to the Peachtree Center Tower elevator, straight up to your office!!! I remember always being late and having to racewalk those escalators! 🤣 Doesn't get ANY easier than that though!

Uhhhh ... I beg to differ about that time capsule math. I have to dig in my mind here to remember. Dig dig dig. Ok, I moved to Atlanta around Oct 5 of 1981, from San Diego CA. I was just a baby at 23, and soooo good looking too - heeee! Long story how that all happened. But I loved it back there, that's for sure. Hotlanta! However, seems I remember MARTA was a brand new rail system back then, over a billion to make, in back in the day dollars. Atlanta was very very proud of it all, like that one station downtown on Peachtree that goes way way way down through granite on a real long silver escalator to the underground. Actually, doesn't the Lenox station come pretty much after that one? Seems I remember that the time capsule @ Lenox Station Mall had just been buried back then, between 1981 and 1982. Not 1984? Matter in fact I was home in San Diego ALL of 1984. And the more the old neurons buzz, it seems that the time capsule I remember was burried at the opening of Lenox station, et al. And, seems I remember it was spose to be dug up in just 20 years? I could be wrong on the 20-year thing. Just doesn't seem so tho. 🤔💡🍸
