  • Hello! I'm Ninomae Ina'nis from Hololive English!
This is a commentated time-lapse recording of the 2021 New Year's wallpaper I drew!
I did my best to explain my process briefly throughout the process, but since I couldn't cover all of it I wrote down a few frequently asked questions below!
I hope this can be helpful to you!!
    ▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼
    Q) What tools do you use to draw?
    A) In this illustration, I used Wacom Cintiq Pro 24, Clip Studio Paint, Blender, OBS, and Photohop! The Photoshop process wasn't recorded this time around, but it was just a few minor color edits at the end.
    Q) How long did it take to finish this piece?
    A) The final recording was around 4 hours!
    Q) How long have you been drawing?
    A) I lost count after ~10 years
    Q) Which brushes/tools do you use?
    A) With the recent update of Clip Studio Paint, I imported a bunch of different brushes that I purchased over on Artstation. Since they're all mixed together I'm unsure which brushes belong to each pack...!
As for the lineart, it's most likely a modified version of Redjuice-sensei's pencil tool available on the Clip Studio Paint asset store.
    assets.clip-st...
    The close&fill tool I use is this one;
    assets.clip-st...
I do not share the exact brush files that I use since re-distributing brushes that I've purchased is prohibited.
※I'll add more questions/answers to the list as time goes on~!

How can someone so chill and relatable have this much talent? I remember in one stream Ina refused to do a critique stream because she didn't go through the education system which is humble of her but we all knew she's a true and passionate digital artist. Gesture drawing class every week, software learning, doodling, art collabs, and not to mention she sings really well. The TOKYO cover gave me goosebumps and all teary despite never having heard the song before. The HoloEN Minecraft server also shows Ina's fast learning skill, neat, and organized nature. Plus all the puns and "jokes" that me burst out laughing. And this time-lapse must've taken a TON of work to make. I'm glad Hololive discovered Ina.

Love her so much

    • @blazefactor6849
      @blazefactor6849 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

@@typehere6689 If I were to guess, it's probably to save time / personal preference. Drawing to that degree of detail is taxing and time-consuming work, so being able to use Blender to cut the time down by a significant amount just makes everything a lot easier, since if executed well you don't lose much (if any) in terms of quality. It's just a whole lot less of a hassle. Plus, a lot of artists tend to dislike doing background work, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was also that element in play.

it's actually very easy to use, you just have to know what you want to use it for and learn the basic tools like transforming, shading, and how the camera works. from there you can figure out whether you're just using it to create scenes, or whether you want to create models and you can learn the tools for those after. there are so many other things you can use it for too like animation, and even video editing! don't be afraid to just binge watch tutorials every now and then on the basics and specific things so you can get an idea for how people use it. but the best is to just experiment, open it up and mess around, see what you can do. even if your first scene is just a bunch of boxes and spheres, it's better than not trying at all!

    • @RappyFX
      @RappyFX 3 ปีที่แล้ว +32

What @Ty said. They made Blender a lot more intuitive and easy to use/learn since the release of Blender 2.8. You just have to put in the time and effort to learn it.
If you're looking for a good tutorial to learn Blender fundamentals you can never go wrong with the famous Blender Donut from the Blender Guru channel. You can then move on to the Blender chair from the very same channel to further learn 3d modeling fundamentals. And once you do those two tutorials the stuff you learned there should be easily transferable to other 3d modeling programs like Maya and 3ds Max.

Here are the timestamps for some of the major steps from the video!

    1. 0:24 Starts by creating Thumbnail rough sketches/figuring out overall composition.
    2. 1:48 Picks one of three rough sketches to develop/polish.
    ----------
    *FSPY/BLENDER*

    3. 2:03 Uses fSpy to set up the camera to start 3d rendering of background in blender.
    4. 2:17 Switches to blender and imports fSpy file.
    5. 2:20 Uses cylinders to see and help adjust camera perspective, re-imports corrected camera settings.
    6. 2:39 Adds in pre-purchased model of Torii Gate, arranging it in perspective/modifying for use.
    7. 3:31 Uses a blender foliage generating plugin to start adding in trees, still keeping in mind the perspective.
    8. 4:08 Imports HDRI winter forest texture for more natural lighting.
    9. 4:57 Start of playing around with blender settings (volume scatter node, rendering elements separately for easier background selection, etc.)
    ----------
    *CLIP* *STUDIO*

    10. 6:00 Goes back to Clip Studio Paint to start naturally editing the background elements into a single illustration.
    11. 7:27 Settles on a nice general mood for the background and starts working on character detail
    12. 9:32 Start of working on the rough colors for the character.
    13. 10:04 Begins Working in monochrome to figure out lighting, then re-adds color on top
    14. 11:21 Saves rough colors separate from lineart for easy transfer to the coloring stage later on. ( 15:27 )
    ----------
    *LINE* *ART* *AND* *COLOURING*

    15. 11:24 Start of Line art (lowers the opacity of rough before starting, flipping the canvas a lot while working)
    16. 13:53 Continues with a different colour than the original lineart to work on separate parts of the illustration.
    17. 14:45 Takodachi!
    18. 15:12 Begins masking areas for coloring (keeps colors within chosen boundaries when coloring)
    19. 15:27 Uses rough colours from 11:21 to help block out colours for each part of the character(separate colour layers for face, hair, skin, etc. with help from the “Close and Fill” tool)

    20. 16:43 Finishes blocking out colours and matches them with the rough colours from earlier.
    ----------
    *CHARACTER*
    21. 17:43 The beginning of more detailed colouring( chooses her colours by testing and going with what feels right. It helps to build a sort of “visual library” through experience and studying art work that you like!)
    A.17:51 Colors mostly face .
    B.18:59 Continues coloring Hair
    C. 21:02 Starts coloring Kimono.
    D. 23:50 Refines overall colours with highlights and further detail for the hair accessories, hands, and clothing.
    ----------
    *BACKGROUND*
    22. 26:09 Starts on more detailed background edits, polishing the blending of colours and textures.
    23. 27:30 Snow additions and edits.
    24. 28:08 Further work on enhancing/refining wooden textures.
    25. 28:38 Polishing of colour and atmosphere to give it a more "paint-like" feeling.
    26. 29:08 Adds more falling snow, utilizing motion blur effect.
    27. 30:00 Adds final details on kimono by hand, copying, pasting, and deforming them to fit where they need to go.
    28. 31:04 Final finishing touches
    31:08 *FINISHED* *MASTERPIECE*
Thanks Ina!! Your art is always wonderful and this video is a great way to see your process!

I especially appreciate the time and care that went into providing subtitles that do a great job of making it easier to follow along!
