  • Join us as we take a look at the history of The Chapel of Our Lady in Rotherham.
Situated on a bridge, it is one of only 4 bridge chapels left in the UK, and it is considered the best preserved one.
This place has seen it all. from opening as a chapel, to becoming a prison, an almshouse, a newsagents and finally, reverting back to a chapel.
The chapel is open to visitors on occasions. See www.chapelonthebridge.co.uk for updates and opening times.

Indeed correct. I believe the figure of 4 is disputed by Derby, who’s chapel was originally on a bridge but is now at the side of the new one.
We’re going to attempt to get to the other 3 (or 4 depending who you ask 😉) whilst on our travels!

Easy to see that the Warrene's used the same Architects/Masons to build the Bridge and Chantry at Rotherham as they did in Wakefield and most of their other Estates too.

Good informative video that. If only more people took more interest in the history of Rotherham.

I think that you could say the same for most of the Northern towns. Perhaps their councils should have more belief that visitors would come. I certainly believe that of Huddersfield, where I live.
